Having posted here for some time, I know for a fact that Geelong supporters love to play the pessimist. I got shot down earlier in the year for even suggesting that Geelong would finish at the top of the ladder. People rubbished me for thinking that this year could be the one. Now, mid season, we are top of the table. Simple thread...

At the beginning of the year did you or did you not think Geelong had a chance of being top of the table after the break?

Well ****, I made a mess of that one. This thread was supposed to be a survey.

Ive always been 50/50 on Geelongs chances. YES we have the quality to be able to beat most of the sides, but the mental aspects of the team, along with player guys who didnt deserve a game is what let us down last year.

Now that its been sorted, along with a gameplan that suits our team, we are flying. But there is still a half a season to go, and we have to continue to build from where we are now and not rest on our laurels.

I still think Geelong will finish between 4-7, however well done on your prediction.

I have felt that Geelong has been capable of making the top, but our problem in the past has been what has happened after we got to the top.

Good precicition though. By any chance did you predict Jnr/Bartel for the Brownlow?

I am shocked by Geelong's performance this year. I suspected we would do better than last year but not this much better. I expected them to scrap into the finals 6-8 and atm, it looks like this could be the worst we can do. I dont think we can win the premiership though, it depends if we get into the top 4.

Who do you think will finish above us?

Good stuff, although I'm not surprised at all. I knew if we remained positive, and a couple of guys lifted their rate from last year then we would finish in the top 4.

In the preseason thread asking where we would finish, I had predicted 2nd behind WCE. I still think that is the case, but sure I'm happy with top.

We have a number of guys lifting, Bartel, Jnr, Wojak, Scarlett, Mackie and even Moons is keeping his head in check. We have guys having their best seasons in a number of years, i.e. Kelly.

So I'm positive about our outlook, I think we have the talent to go places, with younguns prepared to push themselves for the team game, i.e. Rooke, Varcoe and Stokes.

We have also made the team learn the hard way, by promoting self discipline, some for good and bad reasons, i.e. SJ and Hunt (I believe Hunt has been dropped as he isn't putting his body or mind on the job - seen many times out on the turps recently).

So we have a great team, not full of champions, just a champion team. I hope they continue the learning that no-one can do it for you, every player must contribute and work together for success, like us supporters, keep the passion in a positive manner, can only breed a positive result.

I can't help but hope that year may be the one, but all that aside, I will be happy with a top 4 finish. It gets us back that respect and THAT'S important to me. ;)
Respect creates a certain fear from other teams, and we need to keep the current level of work rate to maintain the great pressure from the team as a whole. This in itself can make the difference in getting us over the line when it counts. :thumbsu:
I'd personally like to see more tight hard fought "Adelaide style" games because these are the ones that can define a club when push comes to shove. We can see who really stands up and not just a oncer where you can't see an over all performance.
Big wins are fun but not a true gauge of where we are at, but more where the opposition isn't.

I thought we were good enough to be top 4 at the end of the year , But I never dreamed we would be sitting on top of the ladder after round 11.
The Eagles in my mind were the best and everyone else were just making up the numbers. 11 round down the track I honestly think we have what it takes to match it with the best and can keep getting better.

Exactly TC, even being on top, we still have areas we can develop to become better. That is the best thing about the club and a definite positive from it.

I believe we have a lot of upside to the team, as they are still young, and have a lot of improvement at every spot. It definitely leaves a grin when you think of that fact, that we do have a bit of improvement and we are leading the AFL.
