there's a big difference between saying "could be" and "will be"
from what i heard he said could be.

Heard that - if David Parkin had said it I would view it differently - no offence to Matty Egan!

Not that I rate Tony Shaw that highly.. but I believe he's right.

Egan has the potential to be AA.

I've always rated him highly in chats with other Cat supporters, his aggression at the ball and committment is solid.

You can't say he won't have the odd bad day or one that might be forgettable, but he has the makings, IMO, to be the one to step up to the plate.

His workrate is as good as anybodys, and he has the right agro and seems to slot in nicely.

I hope Tony is right, I would rather Egan than some player who gets cheap backline possessions and marks by kicking back and forth to his brother, and isnt even a CHB (Bowden)

He should be, but probably won't be, the AFL probably don't even know who Egan is.

He's well on the way, although agree that if it was anyone other than Tony Shaw you'd propably take it as a bigger compliment.

Remember that Egan was VFL full back of the year a couple of years ago so it's not surprising he's developing.

U do realize that all the 3 panelists had said Campbell Brown was almost a certainity as the AA CHB earlier in the program? Honestly, they contradict themselves so many times...

I hate when ppl take comments way out of context, its wat newspaper editors do.

Egan is very good but there are too many players competing for those defensive roles this year(AA). Cornes, Gilbee, Shaw, Brown, Fisher, Gram, Milburn, Glass, etc. I would imagine all these would get selected before Egan...

As someone else posted though, Tony Shaw has very little credibility so anything he says shouldn't be regarded too highly.

Cornes ahead of him at the mo'.

Not only that, but remember when they talk "All-Australian" team, what they mean is the opinion of Gerard Healy and a bunch of other feckwits. Healy alone guarantees that half a dozen Hawthorn players are certainties, he probably doesn't even know who Egan is; he won't put him in ahead of Croad I can guarantee you that.

Pretty hard to get a gig infromt of Scarlett, Fletcher, Rutten, Cornes etc.

He is certainly worthy of a spot...
It seems that some people get picked ahead of others because they have more possesions or marks. We all know that's not a true indication of someone's worth to a team or the sort of form they've been in...

Not even close ATM. It would have to be out Cambell Brown and Brian Harris who has played up the ground a bit this year. Harris is dominating with his contested marking.

I think Egan will one day be an AA however he needs to do a bit more on the offense to be noticed.

Tony Shaw also said that Campbell Brown was a dead cert for AA CHB...then later said Egan was looking good for AA CHB.....I mean really are we going to be listening to this bloke????

I saw the show

his exact words were, "he's almost all Australian at the moment"

I agree, he'd be in the top 3 CHBs
