Kangas (Cararra)
WCE (Home)
Hawthorn (Home)

If we dont win at least two of these games any hope for a top four finish is gone. It is going to be tough, but with two of them are at home I believe there is no reason why we couldnt win at least two of them and if we win the three then things will be back on track.
If we win 1 or 0 then the we might as well start planning for the future.

Very important few weeks coming up...

14 or 15 wins are needed for a Top 4 finish.......which means we need another 8 or 9 wins from the last 11 games.

With Kangas, Essendon, Geelong, Collingwood away and West Coast and Hawthorn here..........it might be time for a bit of a reality check as far as Top 4 possibility is concerned.

We really have shot ourselves in the foot by dropping games earlier in theyear we should have won.

West Coast's week off is this week, so we play them with effectively a weeks extra break and Cousins still gone. If we're going to beat them, July 1 is our best chance.

We have quite a few (cliche warning) "8 point games", when it comes to a top 4 finish. Still if we lose 2 it is not the end of the world as we would definately still (cliche warning) "have a mathematical possibility" of getting there.

Yea, but WCE will have more momentum although we will be more fresh. Some teams have been a bit sluggish after the week off. Dont know who it favours more?

If you guys beat Kangaroos I think you will get top 4. Goodwin probably won't play though so it will be tough with other injuries you have, but you have your full defence so I wouldn't expect the Kangaroos to kick to many goals and I would back you guys in a thriller.

With Burton and Goodwin and playing at home after a break West Coast could be a match that you win they aren't in form interstate.

You will beat us regardless of who is playing, interstate record is terrible (only beat Port), your big bodies will see you through.

3 wins will put you in a commanding position, but I think the key is Saturday nights match at Carrara. :thumbsu:

This week is a must win just to make the eight. Top 4 is not realistic with our current form but here's hoping we improve after the break.

With out being a negative Nigel, it is imperative that we win 2 out of our next 3 and start building some confidence to even make the finals.

We don’t have an easy run home, in the last 5 or 6 weeks we have

Essendon @ Telstra Dome (they have beaten Sydney and WCE in the last 2 weeks)
Port Adelaide @ AAMI (never easy to win a showdown)
Geelong @ Skill Stadium
Western Bulldogs @ AAMI
Collingwood @ Telstra Dome

We can win all of them games but at the same time it is feasible that we can lose them all as well.

If we cannot win 2 out of our next 3 games it will not be a matter of can we make the top 4 but can we make the finals at all.

Does anyone else think that a top 4 finish is not so critical for us? my reason being that we tend to play pretty well at almost any ground (bar Subiaco). I think we would still have a serious shot at the flag finishing as low as 7th or 8th. Especially if we can go into the finals with some form. The big thing preventing us finding any form at the moment is our injuries.

That is the one saving grace. If we can somehow get our best side on the park and starting to play good consistent football with about 2 or 3 games to go, we will be in with a legitimate shot because we can beat anyone anywhere.

The next four weeks are pretty huge in terms of the teams fighting for a finals spot.

Round 12:

Kangaroos vs Adelaide
Bulldogs vs Fremantle
Port Adelaide vs Essendon
Swans vs Collingwood
Eagles vs Saints

Round 13:

Geelong vs Swans
Adelaide vs Eagles
Kangaroos vs Bulldogs
Collingwood vs Hawthorn

Round 14:

Essendon vs Geelong
Collingwood vs Geelong
Bulldogs vs Port
Adelaide vs Hawthorn
Sydney vs Fremantle

Round 15:

St Kilda vs Adelaide
Geelong vs Collingwood
Port vs Eagles
Essendon vs Bulldogs
Fremantle vs Kangaroos

That is going to be the four week period where teams can make or break their season. Difference between Geelong at top spot and Fremantle at 11th is just 3 wins and percentage and it is a pretty tough four week period for many of the teams that are in the hunt. A lot of games between contenders for the same positions, this period could very well determine the shape of the eight.

It doesn't matter how you win, ugly or pretty, the clubs hoping to play finals really need to put some points in the board and deny points to the clubs in the mix. Pretty much any team that wins the next 4 will be a contender for the top 4 spot, win 3 and book your finals tickets. 2 puts you in the race for the finals. 1 or less could mean missing the eight unless all the teams struggle to put more than 2 wins together.

I'd like to think positive and say that the last three games of our season will decide our season.

We can't because that was under the old McIntyre system where we could afford to lose the first game as we knew that we were going to the be the highest placed loser and as such still be able to play the following week. Not gonna happen anymore.

Just a technicality, under the current system we would have played Essendon @ AAMI (5 vs. 8) and if we win that and then go on to Sydney, Western Bulldogs and then North Melbourne the scenario wouldn’t have been any different.

In 1998 finishing 5th we would only have had the 1 home game and after that we were on the road, teams may be different but the principals are still the same.

but we can't lose the first game is what I am getting at - under that system you could afford to lose a game. Under this current system you have to win in order to advance.

Yep, can't afford any mistakes, all games away, very hard to win from the bottom half of the eight. You would need to do a Bradbury to win from the bottom half.

I understand that but hypothetically the result would have been vastly different had we played Essendon at home rather than Melbourne at the MCG.

Going to be interesting who will be the better off with the Crows going to Carrara and having a week off then a game at home as for the Eagles 1 game at home in 3 weeks.

Well one game down and one win, off to a good start. If we can win the next two you would imagine then that after those two we have St Kilda at TD and Freo at AAMI would be extremely winnable games.
