View Full Version : Was Hawthorn's win last night good for us?
Seems everyone's talking up Hawthorn now after their hatchet job on the Blues. Do you think it will help us as we're out of the spotlight now, at least for the time being? We've seen how we've succumbed to the pressure of being in the spotlight in the past, so any time the spotlight is shining brightly on someone else, surely must help us, or is that just a simplistic view of things?

I don't think it will really effect how much attention we get. People are waiting (and wanting) us to fail and as soon as we drop a game they'll be all over us.

That's getting a tad paranoid!
Geelong have had the football talent for the past 2 years to be playing in the GF, it has been a mental toughness issue that has let them down. One loss isn't going to have people saying "here we go again" - it will only happen after a number of losses where the team has obviously lost confidence and aren't playing for each other. So far that hasn't looked evident this year.

From what I can see the club is keeping the lid firmly on. This has always been a weakness of ours to fall away when the spotlight is on. Now is the time to rewrite history and tough it out for a change.
so to answer your question: It doesn't matter
Screw the Hawks good for them. Love the Cats no matter what!!!!
Win, lose or draw they will always be my team so nothing changes
Just total excitment at the moment can you ask for any more from
the team???
Live the moment enjoy it all GO CATS

I don't think many people would be wanting you to fail.... i can't see why anyway. I believe you've already dropped a few games already and i don't see huge articles pouncing on the cats.

Perhaps it might help that the spotlight is being shared, but Geelong has an expansive history of choking and falling away that Hawthorn does not (see their success in the '80s). So, any bad losses will be greeted as signs of our fall whether we like it or not. How the team responds will indicate whether things have changed.
Signs are good so far, though.

Really only Caro Wilson is waiting for the wheels to fall off, she put the boot in repeatedly to Thompson last season and is lining up for another punt.
But to use an analogy, i hope a peanuts-esqe situation occurs where she goes to swing and misses. F*ck Caro... and f*ck Charlie Brown while im at it.
Sure the eagles maybe adelaide, ess & collingwood will be threats for the cats this yr but i think the hawks will very much be the danger for us, they have a good record against the cats and they always seem to match up well against us !!

I think you two underestimate the strength of the desire for Geelong to fail among many. Just take a look at the main board after our next loss. It will be a feeding frenzy a long the lines of "The wheels have fallen off for Geelong".

I think one thing we can be assured of. 2007-2015, history will remember the Hawthorn & Geelong dominance and rivalry. We are about to enter a new age. Port, Brisbane, Adelaide, West Coast. You have had your fun. Step aside. The Vics are back in town.
I just hope we can knock the Hawks off in a GF this time.
Love to see Hawthorn knocking on the door. Yes it is good for us, good for footy.

Unlike last year our destiny is firmly in our own hands.
Worrying about anything other then how we are travelling is time better spent elsewhere.

This is not entirely correct. Caroline Wilson is not everyone's favourite footy journo but she was spot on last year re Bomber. She wrote that we were a talented side which was not realising its potential and that something was desperately wrong - we now know that his life was shambolic and that it was affecting his ability to make rational decisions. He owed the Geelong supporters more than the feeble excuses he was giving and that was her main gripe. On the first Footy Classified program he tackled her about attacking Geelong which she denied - and his eyes started to spin - you could see that he would love to have said ," F### off you #>*^@ and could barely control his temper. She got the last word in that he had failed to accept responsibility for our catastrophic year. He was left looking stupid.
Anyway - was Hawthorn's win good for us? I hope they get the biggest swollen heads ever. It is the one club whose smugness I loath more than any other.
