Any old C*** that ever says kick the ball long into the forward line is a deadset moron.
I've had enough.

Worst stategy ever, then Pav getting double/triple teamed and the oppostion fullback is made to look like a star :thumbsd:
There seems to be plenty of space on our HFF line; Id like to see our Flankers take more shots from 40~50 out. But I suppose we don't actually have the players to do that....

The key to that statement is "quickly" and only if they aren't playing 2-3 men back.

Players don't back themselves from 40-50 out because they are told to always look for someone in a better position. I heard CC say this in a press conference just recently - "he did the right thing, he could have had a shot, but he looked for someone in a better position to pass it off to."
The opposition always seem to pull out a number of goals from long shots, or freaky snaps, or just taking a chance on having a shot on the run; whereas we rarely do... it's always "where's Pav", or "I'm on more than a 45deg angle so I have to centre it", or "I'm more than 40 out, so I have to find someone closer"...
Sometimes I wish they would just back themselves in and have a shot. Better than turning it over by "looking for someone in a better position". It's that half second hesitation or moment's indecision that creates the pressure, and then it's a turnover.
Drives me nuts.
The best coach I ever had said if you're 100% you can kick the goal, **** everyone else, kick the goal. Kicking long is a good strategy to one on ones, obviously tonights game something had to be done to prevent it, Pav and Taz can only do so much.

the idea behind kicking it long and as quickly as possible is based on the idea that it should create a one on one situation and give our forward an even chance . it doesnt work so well when its 3 on 1 so thats when players need to lok wider for a better option or take a bounce and gain 10 meter and be in range

in soccer, players are always told to just have a crack whenever they get the chance. they are smallers goals and they have to beat a keeper. i just don't understand why the dockers cant do it!!!

has anynody else noticed that tarrant seems to be quite partial to kicking very high bombs when kicking into the forward fifty instead of looking for the short direct pass.

That’s complete carp. Kicking long to the forward line is a great strategy when you have a bunch of million dollar forwards like we do. But as has been said earlier the key is to get it in quick. It becomes a dud strategy once the opposition has flooded back and has spare men in defence.
The amount of times I see a fairly open forward line become like grand central station while our player dithers with ball then bombs long to out numbered forwards just sh1ts me .

Exactly. The previous week Kerr was in similar position and every media analyst in the land said he should kick.

I would like to see Heath Black being set up more in these situations, having bombs from 40 - 60 out. We should at least threaten from that range so we put the spare defenders in two minds.... Port Adelaide in round 1 got back into the game through a string of taking shots we would never have... i.e. 60 meter bombs and accute shots ignoring the 'usual' options.
We have nothing else to lose considering our accuracy in the last few games has been sh!t house by using predictiable passages to goal.

We also have two of the tallest in the AFL . Long balls would work if they could get a free or better still take a contested mark.
Dessy has a good long kick. Put blackie on the wing more. We have hayden for the run off half back and shammer will be back for that role too.
