I'm pretty sure that this topic has not been covered yet.
Is there any band/group/artist that you have gained/lost respect for after hearing one/a few songs of theirs or after hearing them play or what not.

I HATE Linkin Park. I first heard "One Step Closer" and thought they might have potential. Got their album, and two days later I threw it in the bin. Biggest waste of money ever.
I gained alot of respect for Sevendust. I first thought they would be just like any other new band, but they proved me wrong. Same goes for Slipknot.

I was once the biggest Midnight Oil fan, then out came 'Red Sails' and 'Blue Sky Mining' and I was lost forever. Still like the old stuff, but I'll never be able to listen to a new song without pining for the good stuff.

It's ironic that there is a KISS Dynasty thread here. I elected not to participate in it because I didn't have anything nice to say.
Let's just say that I stopped listening to KISS precisely when they released Dynasty.
Metallica might get a few mentions if the metalheads pipe up... the black album was OK, actually quite a good hard rock album, but it was too overtly commercial at the time, which was hard for the diehards to accept, given that they were one of the premier thrash-type bands in the 80s. Load and Re-Load were shockers, and there have been no originals since (except for two new songs on the symphony set and a single which was on a soundtrack).
AC/DC were a great band for 20 years. Then they released Ballbreaker.
A lot of people jumped off Iron Maiden when Blaze Bayley joined, but I actually like the two albums he did with the band. I think the previous two they did with Bruce were much worse.
I didn't like Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzmosis either.
Deep Purple slid off the face of the planet when they released Purpendicular.
I still love all these bands, as nothing can take away all the great stuff they have done, but two or three consecutive bad albums might be enough to lose me to their recent stuff.
Iron Maiden thankfully came back last year with a good solid album, so there is hope for them yet. I reckon the others are gone for all money.
Well live wise......(as he parts the mist of time)
A great dissapointment for me was when Foreigner came out to tour their first album.
They were lousy live.....Cold Chisel supported them and blew 'em off the stage.
Another great dissapointment was Zeppelin when they came out and played at Kooyong......they were woeful.....very, very sloppy. Any Oz band at the time would have blown them off the stage.
Albums?
Well the Van Halen album with Gary Cherone was quite sub standard.

Darky,
Speaking of all that, what about a rocker we both admire who has released twenty years of mediocre crap? - Ted Nugent.
Double Live Gonzo was a masterpiece. Since that time, he releases a crap album then subsequently tours what amounts to Gonzo plus one or two songs from said crap album. I still love him for some reason. Then again, I'll see the "Gonzo Concert" how ever many times he cares to give it.

I lost a bit of interest in The Red Hot Chili Peppers when I heard them live, I still like them, however it was obvious to me that his voice must be edited for the albums.

The Offspring- Smash
When I got this CD quite awhile back now, I was on love with it! I thought it was great, and I still listen to it often, I hold it in high regard.
But there album's since then???
PUKE! :D
Sell outs!
So yes, lost respect.

The latest live release of his, Full Bluntal Nugity was VERY disappointing, especially as it was still on import when I got it, and I parted with a small fortune for it.
Since Double Live Gonzo he's put out a couple of decent albums (Weekend Warriors and Scream Dream), and had a few good songs scattered around his other albums, but I agree those first few albums were sensational, and it's been pretty dodgy since about 1980.

A U.S. band called Spain. I heard their first album which was amazing. They toured Australia and did a series of gigs with the Paradise Motel as support. Paradise Motel were brilliant. When Spain then played, they nearly put me to sleep - dull and passionless. That one night lost me as a fan forever. I could never listen to their album again without thinking of that gig - just awful.

Damn, I forgot to mention Metallica!
You could add Sepultura to that list. Once Max left, they turned to absolute ****. Their last album, Nation, was crap. I found one or two good songs on it.
Machine Head are another, although I still like them alot. Their new stuff DOES NOT compare with their old stuff, but it's still good enough. VAST's last album was not much either, turned me off a bit. And RATM last album didn't really go down well either, but it didn't turn me off much. It just didn't have as good a feel as their last ones.

Metallica - agree with Darky
Megadeth (anything after 'Rust In Peace' is a joke)
Biohazard
Kreator (Mille, what have you done???)
Deicide - their last album was a blight on their entire career
Sepultura were dead to me when they released Chaos AD. Urgh.
That's it off the top of my head.

Sepultura from Against have been fairly average. A few good songs but nothing special.
A lost a bit of respect for Machine Head when they got rid of a hard crunching sound and replaced it with generic nu-metal. Ive had Supercharger since the first week it came out andi still havent listened to the whole album yet...i cant stand it. Burning Red was good tho.
A lost a lot of respect for Fear Factory when they said they would break up as a band if they didnt get a gold record with Digimortal.
I gained a lot of respect for Faithless last night. Hadnt heard much of their stuff...only a few songs, but i saw them in concert last night and their is only one word to describe them: UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

Another one I forgot.
Disgusted by pretty much everything they did after De/Remanfacture.
BTW, have you seen the DVD? I've heard that it has quite a bit of old footage - is it any good?
Or do they play the 'hits', and jump around (choreographed) on stage like korn-wannabes?

I agree with most of those but I'll have to add Orgy. There first album 'Candyass' was a fantastic album but 'Vapor Transmission' was absolute crap.
