Has anyone here been to a concert in where it is blatantly obvious the singer/band was lip-syncing?
I personally have not, but I would feel pretty pissed off to pay good money to be basically hearing the CD's I already own. ;)
Well not the vocals, no but Van Halen in Melbourne had mysterious keyboards coming out of nowhere which disappointed.
I thought the music of Kiss was questionable yet Paul's vocals were woefully live.
This is stepping aside from your original topic & I apologise but where do you draw the line in terms of a live & raw performance & overly produced effects. We're at the point where guitarrists don't control their own pedals and I'm told the drummer from Silverchair is using Bonzo Bonham's sound when he bashes his skins.

I actually meant that the concert as a whole was pretty much faked. Maybe you can get away with it, I just feel ripped off.

No, never seen it happen to me, but I see real bands who play real music, not these bimbos like Britney and co who do lip synch, I would not waste my money on untalented bullsh1t like that

Nope, never happened to me.
It is fairly well-documented that Brian Wilson doesn't actually play the keyboards in front of him at his shows, no one is sure why  but yeah the rest of his show is 100% live.
Wish I could see it. :(

I was there for both VH with Gary Cherone and Kiss, first and foremost, VH definately do use pre-recorded keyboards that Eddie records...that's the prime result of having a polished sound
that 'isn't LIVE' but heck, he's a brilliant musician anyway.
I've seen Extreme LIVE in Melbourne, thought they were brilliant Live, yet I couldn't help but cringe on hearing Gary cover for Sammy and Dave.........who incidently.....BLOW MY MIND!!!
are co-headlining a 'HEAVYWEIGHTS OF ROCK n' ROLL' tour this summer in the US of A.
As for Kiss....they are really milking a sick tired cow....ACE walks out on them, yet they still play. I thought thier show was severely distorted in the first hour...it was a BIG LET DOWN...on thier standards!! :(

youd be suprized how many big bands use tapes when they play live..mainly for backing vocals
invertigo are prime culprits locally...no bass player..yet theres bass pumping ..i think their lead solos are also sampled as are most of the backing vocals
most of the boy bands have all the backing vocals sampled..or a bed of big vocals that they sing on top of..leaving not much room for error..
not good when the machine player mucks up though..lol

The keyboards are controlled by a device called a midi sequencer. The drummer listens to a click track and everyone else follows. This sort of thing is quite common. Seeing as Sammy Hagar was an accomplished guitar player Ed was able to play keyboards, but Gary Cherone couldn't so they went the sequenced route. I don't think that it is any big deal

If this is true.....big deal. All he's doing is just triggering sampled sounds. This sort of thing has been around for the last 20 years and imo is quite valid.

No I haven't, but the number of times I've seen this on TV by "boy bands" and "girl bands" amazes me. Also that they can walk off stage with any semblance of a conscience is a worry.
