... well Freo have never won down at *insert naming rights sponsor du jour* stadium, and have one of their last 10 against your mob (that suprised me actually)
So, the big question is, who's going to win on the weekend ladies and gentlemen?

Lets put it this way.
After the weekend Freo's record against the cats will be 1-11 and still winless at skilled stadium.

I am very confident going into this weekend's game against Fremantle. I just think Geelong's confidence would be very good after 2 good wins in a row and playing at home should give the Cats the edge against an improving Freo side.
Go Cats!!

You know it will be a good game when both side's supporters are extremely confident of winning, as is the case with this game.
For one thing, it certainly wont be a repeat of last week where we slaughtered St. Kilda. Fremantle are an improved side as they showed last week, thumping Richmond.
It should be a tough, close game and I just hope we get over the line.
Geelong, by a couple of straight kicks.

What's the weather like down in Geelong?
Has it been raining much?
The only way Geelong can lose is if it is a wet weather game. If the ground is wet expect Fremantle to thump us.

Raining about as much in Geelong as much as it has in Ballarat or Melbourne, that's if what my in-laws have said is correct.
I don't think the Cats will win by a ton like they did last week, but it won't be close, either. Geelong-- and the young Cats, especially-- are playing with a great deal of confidence, and they shouldn't win by less than five goals.
Cheers,
William

Apparently, and hopefully it won't change, it's meant to be about 19 and sunny on game day. So hopefully we wont get the rain!!!
I think we can win, but as You Idiot said, it won't be a huge margin!!

Thanks, JubJub-- I stand corrected. But that sounds about when I last spoke with my in-laws. :)
Weather.com is saying the forecast for Sunday is 18 and partly cloudy. Rain will not be an issue.
Also wanted to clarify one other matter-- I didn't say the game was going to be close, but it should be a comfortable win for the Cats. Five goals, minimum, the margin of victory.
Cheers,
William

I reckon The Wiz is due to kick a bag and i don't see how you guys can stop our forward line, there's too many options. While the cats kicked a ****'e load of goals last week i don't reckon Riccardi can bag 5 again.
Wasn't it good to see that Croad and Lord kicked a combined score of 69 points last week compared to Hawthorn's entire total of 63.
Ha! suffer in ya skidmarked undies Hawks!

oooo, thats a big call there champ - you'll have to play very very well to do that IMHO.
I think in a close game, Freo will be able to control the midfield, and with our hieght up froward, you'll be troubled.
Freo, in a close one.

I was thinking that the Geelong supporters have done very well in holding back from mouthing off and making ridiculous statements.
Though this isnt as bad as I have seen its bad enough to come back and haunt you.
5 goals??
Well I think you may be in for a shock.
Our in and under team is probally one of the best in the buisiness and our talls in the forward line are again some of the most potent.
Pace is our only weakness but when you get first touch from the packs time and time again that doesnt seem to be an issue.

We'll see, Freo fans. I just happen to think that with the confidence the Cats have right now, and especially that of the young players who other Cat fans have been waiting for to show some chemistry (and results) for quite some time, another win is in the works, but understandably not by as much as last week.
The Dockers will pose a more formidable challenge than a weakened Saints side did last week; I'll give your side that much.
Enjoy the game, all!

William

I agree you have every right to be confident, as a 20 goal win is not a bad fromline - but also remember we flogged the tiges by 11 goals, and they are a purported top 4 side, so we too have every right to be confident :)
I just feel we should control the midfield, as we have alot of hard, older bodies, compared to your younger guys, who will all no doubt one day be very very good.
Up forward, I think you lack a uality small, close checking backman with Sanderson out, and we have two players in Farmer and Medurst that can hurt you around goals - and I think that is where we can win the game to be honest.
The Dockers will pose a more formidable challenge than a weakened Saints side did last week; I'll give your side that much.
How gracious of you.
I am sure if either of our sides lacked 5 or 6 first team players, we'd both be on the end of some hidings ourselves ;)
Enjoy the game, all!
And to you sir, may the best team win.

Fair enough, Kuep. We'll just agree to disagree until 4 p.m. our time here tomorrow. :)
I will add this, after having just thought about matchups a bit deeper... If the Cats can adequately put a body on Jeff Farmer, that could pose a key to victory or defeat for either side. Just my two cents of a thought...

You may well be right - even last week when we kicked 21, he only kicked the one and didnt look dangerous, and sooner rather than later I hope he will win a game off his own boot for us, so you never know what may happen there - shall be a very interesting tussle, I just hope for a good game.
Either way, I'll make sure I stop back tomorrow to end this discussion either way :)
Cheers.

Well Geelong kicked 26 last week & Ronnie Burns, our leading goalkicker for the last few years, didn't kick any.
He may be due for a few goals.

Excellent point! In fact, Burnsie's been practically invisible for much of the season so far. He may be due for a break-out game.

The Cats have played well today, disappointing we are dropping off in the last quarter, but a good effort for most of the game.

Well I must say I was very impressed with your side today, just plain and simple hard running, and a great team effort - something Freo didnt match today, which is disappointing from my behalf.
Didnt fire a shot today our forwards, as both your pressure in the midfield and very close checking in your backhalf led to little or no forward line for us.
So well played, if you can play at that intensity and pressure all year, you'll continue to do well for sure - wether the young guys can sustain it for the full year will remain to be seen, but the signs are certainly all good for you catters.
The better team won on the day, no questions at all.
Cheers, good luck for the rest of the season.

I'm absolutely wrapped with the performance today from Geelong!! I thought we played really well as a team and it was great to see the young guys again lead the way with James Bartel, (BOG) Gary Ablett Jnr and Joel Corey doing well. :)
Our defence once again was outstanding, conceeding less than 50 points for the 2nd week in a row and with Scarlett, Harley, Foster & Milburn down there doing well, it provides a great sprinhboard for our attacks. It was also good to see Ben Graham kick 3 goals today. (he missed a few as well!!) Ben was leading out and presenting himself which is great and Cameron Mooney played his best game for us today and looks to be getting better and better which is great!! :)
So, all in all it was a great win today, and I'm really looking forward to the challenge next week against a fired up Brisbane at the GABBA. We have nothing to lose and will be giving it our best shot!!
Go Cats!!

Yeah good win SeinDude...
Exciting times at geelong with all the quality young players.
This week will be a big test but win, loose, or draw at least we can look forward to it and the next few years with a bit more enthusiasm.

I don't know where to begin, really... so I'll let the rest of you speak for me-- having seen the game, I have to agree with what you all are saying.
But I'll add this... I am having trouble getting used to the dizzying heights of 3rd place on the ladder! Are these our Cats?? Amazing....
Maybe after this euphoria sets in, I can get used to seeing my team in 3rd place. But bring on the Lions, it'll show whether or not the Cats' kiddie corps are for real or not.

By the way you_idiot, i'd consider dropping the (Frustrated Cats barracker) phrase if i was you. Dosn't seem that frustrating anymore even though the opposition has been ordinary.

Jen and I will come up with some ideas by morning. :)

I think we were all shocked by the final scoreline, in a good way.
True story-- we got back to our flat after having Sunday lunch with her parents (yeah, I know the game was on, but sometimes you have to do what is the right thing in the bigger picture). Anyways, I digress... We get back into the house, and while she's in the loo, I turn on the TV and it's right after halftime, and they're leading by close to ten goals.
I let out this huge scream of utter delight for my team, and Jen came running back into the lounge room-- she reacted like someone had died!
"What happened?" she said in her fright of horrors.
"Look at the TV, dear-- our Cats are winning by a large margin, again!" I replied with excitement.
(OK, that response of mine was paraphrased. More like it, I said, "The Cats are kicking some Freo Docker a$$"-- and the Freo fans can excuse me for my spontaneous outburst of exhuberance.)
Still can't believe what has happened. It'll take a couple of days to come down from this, for sure.
Cheers,
William

Yes surprised by the winning margin, but more surprised at the class of our youngsters..
Everyone was thinking Geelong would be heading to the bottom of the ladder this year especially when Hocking and Murphy left, I had my doubts as well, but the youngsters we drafted in the past few years and this year a great even Ablett I thought might have been drafted cause of the name but the kid can actually play and play extra well, Bartell well he just looks the goods and could be leading our best and fairest, Rooke looks a classy player and Chambelrs looks good as well, then theirs Ling, Clarke, Corey, Enright and so on who have all taken the next step. Not to mention players who have not had a game yet who have played in our reserves and have had winning margins better than our seniors.
All in all I would say that we are not going to be the easy beats everyone thought but we will still struggle against top sides until these youngsters get a year or so under their belts but then look out.

I think the key here is that the young players-- and Ablett Jr. as a key example-- are mature beyond what their tender years may suggest. Thompson and company have let them mature at their pace, and not a pace mandated by the club, and this patience has paid off.
I said it in the preseason-- if you think this crop of youngsters and the team as a whole is good now, it'll be downright scary for the opposition in five years' time.
Cheers,
William
