View Full Version : We played a good game.....
...on the wrong day!!
You cant play a high possession game like we did today in shocking conditions. You have to play the percentages - something they did and we didnt.
It seemed we thought we were under the roof at colonial - we trid to pin-point, hit targets and play "pretty" footy.
I dont think we played bad, we played dumb!
We definitely had enough of the ball - especially in the midfield. But today we needed to go long, direct, with tall forwards simply providing a contest with crumbers front and centre. Decision making and ball use let us down.
You could see we were a classier, more skillfull side but on a day like today those assets are useless.
Its back to the under 18 days of playing percentages. We seemed to be playing a complicated game, where as they were predictable, basic but efficient game.
IMO one word sums up today - dumb!
I just got home smokin ... and i was going to post the exact same thing. We played dumb dry weather football on a day where it is pouring with rain. It was dumb footy ... and continued to play in this manner all game.
Do our boys know how to play wet weather footy? I doubt it. Especially when you play out of a stadium with a closed roof for 13 of the 22 games.
Collingwood played very smartly and deserved their victory. Some of our boys need to take a long, hard look at themselves.
Please get well Peverill. :(

Perhaps we oughta rethink the whole roof thing.
In the NFL, teams that play home games in domes are always lousy in inclement weather, and the skills required there certainly aren't as extensive as those in footy.
While the scoreboard wasnt flattering, Im not as down as other supporters seem to be.
The difference was simply mental approach - that can fixed no problem.
Also - they played in the wet two weeks ago against Carlton. Sure they got rolled, but they were better for the run.
When was our last wet game similar to this? Im probably forgetting something - but Brisbane in 2000 comes to mind.
Not often anyway.
It is kinda unbeleivable in that youd think an AFL team should be able to adapt quickly - however when you are playing one style for so long, often under a roof in perfect conditions you probably need a game to get back into the bogged game style of game.
They always play well on April 25 - I was expecting a tough game and geez did we get one.
2nd quarter killed us - I cant remember a quarter where we dominated so much, but the opposition doubled our score!
Dumb, Dumb, Dumb footy.
Big difference to getting outplayed - I dont think we got outplayed as much as people think today.

I'd be much more worried if it happend in the dry.
The weather worked as a handicap, and the pies handled the conditions better, third quarter especially. Overall a pretty poor game of AFL football, but then again, Anzac day never has been a highly skilled encounter. Close matches sure, but never brilliant football.

We gave the Swans an absolute football lesson last year in Sydney in pouring conditions.
What a difference a year makes eh?:(
Pies were better on the day, but what a woeful match!
I wonder how often the ball went out of bounds?:o

Well, i think for a start you have to get rid of Lloyd. If you don't want to play dumb footy, get rid of the dumb players! I mean u might as well watch fish cam on sbs when he comes on the big screen.
You have no chance for the flag this year!
"see the bumbers stuff up, up, to lose the premiership flag"
