I am listening to the album for the first time in ages, and damn is it a work of art or what?!?!?!

It really saddens me to see what Metallica have become today, when they know themselves that they can still produce masterpieces like Justice, and the albums before that for that matter.

I just can't see how they could release something as crap as Re-Load when in the past they release Justice! It pisses me off!

Go back to your roots on your next album boys, no-one does it better than you did!

Cliff Burton is the unheralded hero for the early albums. His influence was huge, his influence has been missed.

Justice is the beginning of the end, a good album - but I feel a bit disjointed. Master of Puppets is the Metallica measuring stick IMHO.

I reckon "And Justice for All" has Metallica's best song on it, One. I also like the title track, but the rest just goes

Of their old albums Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are both better. And I like Metallica's new stuff as well, although ReLoad wasn't great

Puppets was the yardstick.

AJFA... was a great album though.
But yes, the beginning of the end....

Justice was my favourite Metallica album in terms of material, but the sound just sucked. Loved the guitars, but the sounds of the drums (the sound, not Lars's playing) ab****ely sucked. Sounded like the noise I used to make with mum's pots and wooden spoons when I was a kid.

Agreed on overall production. The bass guitar is also non existent & there was a pretty bad drone in the background from memory, unless it was my CD player at the time.

They gave Flemming Rasmussen the arse and he went on to produce Blind Guardian, who also had a weird production on the Imaginations from the Other Side CD.

HA! I was just about to PM you to ask if you'd bought the new Blind Guardian offering!

I agree with you about AJFA's bass guitar being non-existent, seemed to be an all-treble album - couldn't hear Newsted at all and the drumming sounded very tinny.

It was the first Metallica album I bought (on vinyl too) and the fact records always seem to have more treble than bass didn't help. Took me a while to get into the album and the band. After being lent taped copies of Kill 'Em All and Puppets, I got into the band a lot quicker, and was better able to appreciate ...Justice's songwriting and concentrate less on the tinny sound.

Didn't think there was anything wrong with the prodcution on Imaginations...

That, and Tales From The Twilight World are probably the most professional and "full" sounding BG albums IMHO - not counting the newie which I haven't heard yet.
