In todays West Australian in the sport pages there was a small paragraph on how last week Croad and Lord combined to score 69 as opposed to hawks 63. So What? Both were dumped by the struggling hawks at the end of last season.

It is interesting as this question was asked of Dermott Brereton last night on The Footy Show and he said that wasn't necessarilly correct as the Hawks were struggling to get the ball down to their forwards whereas Lord and Croad were getting plenty of the ball from their team mates.
Personally, I'm happy to see Aaron Lord back at Geelong.... I was disappointed Gary Ayres let him go in first place.
Go Cats!!

I think Hawthorn might regret getting rid of both.Maybe trade one,but a bit silly trading both.

They delisted him alright, the official line to explain was that Mirrors was narky at having to play for Box Hill.
Either way, he's been a pretty handy pickup for us, to think, some people wanted to pick up Adrian Fletcher.

I was always big wraps for Lord, probably because everytime we used to play the hawks he would kill us. I couldn't believe the hawks let him go. As for Croad I'm pretty happy to have him at freo, I don't think we've seen the best of him yet this year. Certainly two players who would have been able to fill in the gap in the forward line in the absence of Barker and co.

Round 5
Croad & Lord = 6 points
Hawks = 125 points
oh wait, that doesn't suit your arguments:rolleyes:

The comparison that started this thread was Hawthorn's total score V Croad & Lord's combined score. Why change it now to the entire Hawks list? Oh, cause you lose out the other way:rolleyes:

Ok so do you feel better now? Got it out your system? Im sure if there was a match between Croad and Lord against Hawthorn, the Hawks would win. Thats what you want is it, to prove your point?

Yes they did. We should not talk about that though. We should be more positive.

BB,
I got into trouble with Aaron when he was dumped. However, I will respect the bloke. He is one of the nicest guys around.
All he wants is respect and he will get that.

Croad - Was on $350k approx a season and was not performing. His progress had stagnated and was too undisciplined. So it was a much better option for us to trade him for the numbers 1, 16 and 24 draft picks and to free up money in the cap for the likes of Hay, Barker, Crawford and Chicky who all come out of contract at the end of this season.
Watch the chaos at Freo in 2 years when Croad is on $700k a season (as per his contract) and still not performing.. and our picks from the trade : Hodge, Ladson & Elstone are the next big things. Ha ha @ Freo.
As for Aaron Lord.. an individual playing a team game. Yeah he can kick his 5 or 6, or get 25 possessions occasionally.. but what about the other 20 odd games where you need him and he goes missing. Also freed up another odd $200k I'd imagine. Another inspired decision by the Hawks brains trust. Keeping an eye on the salary cap and the future and getting rid of the dead wood.

Yeah, freed up another $200k to be paid to someone who doesn't deserve it.
You do know that the clubs have to use 95% of their salary cap?
So that money will still have to paid to some other player.

Pussyman...
Johnny Hay re-negotiated his contract for a further three years INCLUDING this year. $200k well spent. I'm sure he doesn't deserve it hey?
