West Indies leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo was due to leave hospital during the weekend after suffering facial cuts in a road accident on Friday, a West Indies cricket board official said.

"He was rushed to Trinidad, and he's doing fine now," Michael Hall, chief of cricket operations for the West Indies Cricket Board told Reuters.

"He has had some stitches above his eye and on his lip but there are no other physical injuries. He should be out of hospital by this weekend."

Hall declined to say whether Nagamootoo, who had been travelling in a taxi in his hometown of Berbice in Guyana when he was injured, would be available for the third Test against India starting in Barbados on May 2.

The 26-year-old impressed in the first drawn Test at Georgetown, grabbing the prize wicket of Sachin Tendulkar, but missed the second Test at Trinidad due to a hamstring injury. India won to go 1-0 up in the five-Test series.

==============================================

Let's hope he makes a full recovery, as he is a talented cricketer and deserves more opportunity at the highest level.

when i first caught wind of this, i was thinking about what happened to lisa lopez the other day. whether it's him or someone else, west indies will be needing something to stop their third home series defeat in the last 30 years.

Hope Nags recovers well. The Windies need young players like him to be getting more experience in the test matches.
