It's getting worse and worse.
I don't care what they do....50 metres....fine players.
Every time there is a free kick the player has a whinge. It is disgraceful, and sets a bad example for the kids.

paid a 50 metre against a player because he wouldn't stop bitching, 50m was right in front of the goals too, and it was the goal that sealed the win.
some of these players kids have to learn to shut up and take it.

perhaps the umpires should try and get it right more often instead of worrying about their media profiles.

McLaren, Chamberlain and Goldspink most certainly do. Not surprisingly they wre the worst 3 umpires.

apart from ray, the other two are the most senior, experienced, and best umpires going around.
they might seem like pricks to your team when they aren't paying the frees the way you think they should (maybe you should stfu from your arm chair and try umpiring), but they are damned good umpires.

They are right most of the time, learn the rules and stop complaining.

Their media profiles are created by people like the BF posters who choose to put them in the spotlight more so than what the umpires themselves do.

There is a better way for a player to question a call without bitching about it, noticed a few players dropped a few F-bombs. I wonder if Seven got into some trouble with that?

OR- the umpires need stop being so weak and learn to get on with it instead of looking as though they can't take a little verbal abuse.
The players do need to pull their heads in but the umps need to have a little tolerance, i've heard a few things the players say to the umps that cause a 50m penalty and seriously, the umps need to harden the F**K up.
They won't be liked by anyone if they act so soft.

You might hear a player swear after he has kicked the ball out of bounds on the full. That happens and that is an automatic 50m penalty.
No, no, no! What do you want the game to turn into? Far out - there bloody grown men I think there aloud to swear if they make a mistake.

See, I didn't like what you wrote, but chose not to abuse you over it. You're happy, I'm happy. I disagree, but you don't see why you should cop a mouthful over it.

Unfortunately it has to stop becuase we will run out of umpires very soon as no one wants to do it. Some people need to watch some other sports like league and basketball where there is respect between the officials and the umpires and any abuse results in a technical foul or sin bin. It's is just a different world the way they are treated.

In Union they call the referees "Sir"
what a great sport :D
in cricket the respect is amazing (different sport i know, it's more of a gentleman's game) they get to know you, you get to know them and everyone has a first name.
Where/When did the respect disappear in the game?
Or has it ever been there?

nobody is happy with the rules; there is confusion over interpretations, and they take it out on the umpires; not to mention most umpires at country level act like a bunch of up themselves so & sos..........especially the younger ones tying to make a name for themselves.
poor umpiring--->abuse--->no-one wants to do it--->poor umpiring
vicious circle.
cheers.

I'm particularly getting sick of players pointing to the replay on big screen, or snapping there head around to watch the moment the whistle goes. One it's pathetic and two it's not going to change the umpire's decision.

Who cares if there's a bit of back chat going on out there?? You can't expect the players to just be so robotic as to not question something they feel may be wrong.
Umpires need to grow a thicker skin and not act like little children when someone swears at them.
"Mummy, mummy that big man just said a bad word to me...WAAAAAHHHHH!!" It's pathetic...

Perhaps the umpires should get over themselves and stop acting like they're a part of the game. They're not, they're a neutral party brought in to award free kicks when they're there and bounce the ball when needed. Any other time they should f--k off and get out of the way.

My ass it's got to stop.
Should be able to give the ump a bit of lip, and a back hander too.

The umpires are a part of the game. Without them, you wouldn't have it.

I respect the umpires in local leagues. They do it for bugger all pay and they do it well.
These self indulging twats in the AFL think they're the stars of the show. Bounce the ball within 5 seconds of calling a ball up, blow the whistle when a free's there, otherwise get out of the way.

I witnessed the worst umpiring I have ever seen today. It created ugly aggravation on the field and off the field.
It is impossible to respect these idiots. They are paid professionals for christ sake.
However; I do have a solution. If they were hot chicks in lingerie!
You would say "gee that was a crap decision but damn she has a cute arse".
See...Brilliant!

A scenario for you all:
Umpire awards a free kick, the offender swears directly at the umpire;
Fifty metres or not?

If the umpires did their job properly they wouldnt get abused, but the AFL umpires are too quick to pay 50m or pay a free kick
When a player handballs the ball 10m straight over the boundary and you dont pay it deliberate you deserve everything you get
Although in that incident it was hard to see what the player said that was so bad when he was 15m away and had his back to the umpire by the time he decided to pay a free kick
