So okay we at Hawkland are lamenting that we have put in a shocker against the Crows, that other species of bird, our nemeses at Football Park.

I can well remember days in the seventies and eighties during eras of the mighty Hawks being the awesome power of the then VFL, travelling out to play Fitzroy at St Kilda Junction and the Scraggers on the Western Oval when firmly entrenched at the top of the ladder we were the victims of boilovers. Hawthorn teams made up of legends of the game completely embarrassed by thrashings.

This season, grand finalists for the past two seasons, West Coast and Sydney would have fans with similar thoughts as we did in those days although Hawthorn's standing was much higher then in comparison, that is, the then Hawks to other clubs in those great eras. If you get my drift.

So, we have witnessed our team maintaining a position in the top four for a substantial part of this season. We have put in two shockers, Brisbane and Adelaide. Now tell me how many of the other 15 clubs haven't had really bad games, unexpected poor quality losses and if so how many?

Just some thoughts of mine, guys and gals, boys and girls.

When we were the best back in the eighties the Doggies always seemed to trouble us.

I remember when we smashed Essendon by 150 points in 1992 and they came out next season and won a flag..........

We were beaten by 15 goals by the Crows in Round 1 of 1991. We went on to win the flag six months later.
