View Full Version : Aker Gagged!
Great story on Jason Akermanis on Ch7 news tonight. Aker's in-laws are apparently deaf and he needs to sign to converse with them. He was at a function for the deaf today where he showed his skills. He commented that he can still get a bake from his in-laws if they are not happy, even though they have to sign their displeasure.
This man continues to amaze.:thumbsu:

You didnt you tube the story by any chance did you?
Yes, he is an amazing man...how many guys would bother to try to communicate to that extent with their in-laws?? THIS is the main reason I have always had a high opinion of him as a man.....Would Fev? or Cousins? Or other players? Sign language is not easy..he did it!...He is (was?) a patron of the blind dog assoc. in Qld too....As I have always said, he is a decent human being, not a fighter, druggy, or runs from police at a booze bus....his only "crime" has been his honesty.....A person I would trust before most others!!

Very well said. Hiss involvement with the Western suburbs communities has been very pleasing as well. I didn't think he would really bother with all that sort of stuff, but he has delivered well.
Oh, by the way......he can play a bit of footy too!! Cheers!

I have to admit there isn't much to dislike, he's a top bloke, and a top footballer. Every interview he's had since he's been with us he's been thoughtful and still remained honest, he's pretty funny too. He's really given his all to fit in and be part of the club and get acceptance from the supporters. I mean people were saying he'd be a cancer at the club, He's been the exact opposite, humble, modest, he's now accepted and shaken the demons, He's an impressive person all round.

I was already pro Aker before he came to us. He has brought more excitement to our team and judging by the crowd reaction at the game against Port, I could sense even the sceptics had finally accepted him. I met him at his book launch two years ago now and I remember thinking wouldn't it be great to have Aker at the Bulldogs and it happened.
It is good to see that he took the effort and initiative to learn sign language so as to be able to communicate with his in-laws they would have definitely appreciated the effort that he went to.
I have had the impression that his in-laws were like the parents he didn't have, really took him in under their wing..Akers mum died when he was only 18, which left him and his younger brother alone..didn't know his dad then, not until recently...Akers wife is their only child, I believe...he hasn't had it easy, deserves all the success that has come his way IMO

Yep, he had it pretty tough, his book was a good read - talked about his mum, brother and his childhood.

That's a cracker LOL :D
Speaking of Akermanis, I noticed that "shannon" revived an ancient thread on the RealFooty blog for this:

I loved the line on Seven News where he said "The first thing you notice is how long it takes to eat dinner"
