View Full Version : Holding the jumper!

This season the hawks have been pinned on a few occasions for holding onto the opponents jumper after the opposition player has taken a mark and the result was a 50 metre penalty..
I recall Croad on one occasion against Martin Clarke from the pies and on another occasion Gilham on Leo Barry..
Now on Saturday night I almost threw a cup through the TV after Might mouse took a mark inside fifty and the crows player held onto his jumper for a certain amount of time after he marked it and the umpire turned around and told McGlynn to take his kick, no 50 metre penalty.
Where is the consistency in this rule?
Is it just me that really gets worked up about umpires neglecting us?

They were so hot on it early in the year, I guess like most new rules they have become leniant on it.

Does anyone else think they should re introduce the 15m (?) penalty for minor infringements like holding the jumper after a mark? 50 m is a harsh penalty to pay when many players do turn around and fake a handball.

In a similar vein, did anyone else see the article in this morning's Hun (not on the website, so unable to link) that included a "free kick" ladder?

It seemed to vindicate what most Hawk supporters think, in that we are stone, motherless last on this list.

The umps faves, the e-girls are on top. Where else would they be?

I'm glad with the umpiring thing, I feel vindicated being near the top of the ladder even after umpires own us.
