I read someone yesterday suggesting a song in the young mans honour. I happened to be listening to The Hard Road by Hilltop Hoods so got started on penning this tune.
It's a bit of a tongue twister in parts but does the job. Make sure you sing it with the song playing. Enjoy!:)
Let me know what you think...

The Clarke Road By Dave (KikidadidaK) 11-7-07

Going down the Clarke road, down the Clarke road,
Don’t know where he’s been,
Going down the Clarke road, down the Clarke road,
Don’t know where to begin.

Verse 1-
Growing up we needed a guy like, a young Harry Collier,
Cos we was going nowhere, like the Blues and Dees year,
Though the pies road, was never looking that bland,
That I’d looked for the answer in the Guinness mans land,
Never miss the crowd thrill, or his will, when he has the pill,
Kids with skills, still got bagged by some dills,
They’d have him in the back of the stalls, down to Willy,
Smack em, slap em down for a bagging him, showed em up,
When Shaw was out, what a way to begin,
Next weekend, goals flowed, star again,
And they never will forgive themselves,
For doubting he would be it all,
Went from knockin the thought, to lovin it all,
Slave to the young man, went from couple a fans,
To number fourty-three clan, now no stopping him,
Finish the one and only, Irish revolutionary.

Chorus
Going down the Clarke road, down the Clarke road,
Don’t know where he’s been, and don’t know how good he’ll be its like,
Going down the Clarke road, down the Clarke road,
Loving the games we’ve seen.

Verse 2 –
Spent my youth waiting for pies to win,
The only change that I wanted was 16 in finals for us to be in,
Was on a path to nowhere, the harder the road,
The more dud youngsters, leaves others larger the load,
This Irish kid got sent out, for us to find out,
Got doubt, sent back home to figure out,
Then tossing and turning, this life he was yearning,
The Irish mc never lost hope in dreaming,
We used to list broken stars they all would fail,
If we never had looked maybe he’d be playing for Sale,
And we’d only have ourselves to blame,
I thank the Scotty and Richo for teachin’ him the game,
But that’s their job right? Wishing we’d win a fight,
Never seeing daylight, hoping the next draft pick might,
And I’ve done too many years to miss our successes,
To have to tell my son he (Clarke) nearly never existed.

Chorus
Going down the Clarke road, down the Clarke road,
Don’t know where he’s been, don’t know how good he’ll be it’s like,
Going down a Clarke road, down the Clarke road,
Don’t know when he’ll be king, DJ Dave c’mon and break it down like,

Verse 3 –
And I speak bout kid moving alone, with no Blarney stone,
Cos all these guys were told he got Judd in his bones,
And he could have stayed in Ireland, the easy option,
But he chose to go the right way, the fans are watching,
So be on the look out, look up, f-baller with foot pick-up,
Tear a page from his book out, don’t miss out,
Your leaving us in no doubt, so keep a lookout,
For what he puts out, the brand new name for you to shout out.

Chorus
Going down a Clarke road, down the Clarke road,
Don’t know where he’s been, and don’t know how good he’ll be its like,
Going down the Clarke road, down the Clarke road,
Don’t know where he’ll end.

I’m walking round in clovers,
We’ve found a friend.
Martin
Martin
Martin etc.
Down the Clarke road.

Is it possible to put The Hard Road song on this thread so it can be played straight from here?.. coz the lyrics would make alot more sense for people who don't know the song.

You guys have inspired me! To the tune of, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence.

When Andy D rode to town,
the women folk would hide,
they'd hide
When Andy D walked around,
the coaches would step aside
Because the point of a pen
was the only law that Andy understood
When it came to changing rules
straight and fast,
he was mighty good.

From out of the north a stranger came,
a shamrock in his hand,
a man
The kind of a man the Pies would need
to tame a troubled League
'Cause the point of a boot
was the only law that Marty understood
When it came to running
straight and fast,
he was mighty good.

Many a team would face his boot,
and many a team would fall.
The man who tagged Marty Clarke,
he tagged Marty Clarke,
He looked the silliest of them all.

The love of a Club can make a fan
stay on when he should go,
stay on
Just trying to build a premiership
where Eddie is free to grow
But the point of a boot
was the only law that Marty understood
When the final showdown
came to pass,
a shamrock was no good.

Alone and afraid the fans prayed that he'd
return that fateful day,
ahh that day
When nothing they said could keep
their man from going out to play
From the moment a fan gets to be full grown,
the very first thing they learn
When two men go out to face each other,
only one returns

Everyone saw thirty possies dished out,
the possies made the media fall
The man who beat Andy D,
he caned Andy D,
he was the greatest of them all.
When it came to goaling
straight and fast
Marty was mighty good

The man who beat Andy D
he caned Andy D,
he was the greatest of them all.

Sorry about the old tune but I think the album will need to appeal to all demographic groups so this one is for the Grey Army.

"There will be a white flag above my head...
Marty Clarke's, too damn, busy."

"Setanta O'hAilpin up your ass." (to the tune of Propagandhi's "Haillie Sellasse, Up Your Ass")

You speak of Tadgh Kennely, but how can you justify drafting
Him with a knee that he left half behind?
Blues simply got the hacks, from hurling's lower class
that aren't fit to even sit on the pine, the pine yeh'
An amalgamation of un-coordination, and lack of thought
What will that get you? Not a **** of a lot. (except Setanto)

Take a look at Marty from Ireland,
he'll have 5 Brownlows in his hand
Carltons abysmal; No Draft picks, Prince's Park
No Draft Picks,
Prince's Park
No Draft Picks
Prince's Park
No Draft Picks
Prince's Park - soon to be a parking lot, for Andy Demetriou and Elliot's nose yeah

*there's a few more words but I can't think of anything that would fit it*

Good till the last nose bit.

Surely could've mentioned the financial sit.

Well here's the real song.

You speak of Rastafari, but how can you justify belief
In a god that's left you behind?
You've simply filled the gap between the upper and lower class
And your faith merely keeps you in line.
An amalgamation of jewish scripture and christian thought.
What will that get you? Not a **** of a lot.
Take a look at your promised land.
Your deed is that gun in your hand.
Mt. Zion's a minefield.
The West Bank. The Gaza Strip. X 4
Soon to be parking lots for American tourists and fascist cops.
**** zionism. **** militarism. **** americanism.
**** nationalism.
**** religion. (x a lot)

Got any ideas?

To build on Marty Clarke race;(sorry Jabz :D)

I am young Marty Clarke,
Fitting Pies with weapons to win premierships
And don't really care when Benny Cousins cries
As long as the MCG keeps singing
That mighty old Magpies song, yeah

This ain't a scene, it's a Marty Clarke race
This ain't a scene, it's a Marty Clarke race
This ain't a scene, it's a Marty Clarke race
I'm not reknowned as a goalkicker,
But I've got six.

I'm a leading man
And the life I lead is so damn intricate.

I wrote the gospel of six Brownlow's,
(I see Judd's rep sinking)
But the real bombshells have already sunk
(Another premiership at Colling-wood)
At night I'm pinning trash on Bryce Gibbs, my inferior
Kicking just one more goal
Can't wait for this party!

This ain't a scene, Marty Clarke's got one more.
This ain't a scene, it's a Marty Clarke race
This ain't a scene, Marty Clarke's got one more.
Marty Clarke's 40 possies.
Add another.

He's a skillful man.
Better than Judd, oh so much better

Little Chris Judd, who couldn't catch young Clarke
Because he just couldn't move fast enough
Cry, til your eyes give out.

This ain't a scene, it's a Marty Clarke race (x6)

He's a leading man.
And the lies he sells, oh so intricate...
