Just curious if anyone from bigfooty is going to the game and the before match function or the after match function.
Hopefully it will be a good day and maybe we could all have a beer together before or after a good win.
Maybe a few of us big footy tragics could meet and make some noise at the game.

When do you guys play Freo?

Don't mind watching the catters and have a mate who is a yyyaaaaabbbbbbllllettttt fan so I might come along to and let you all know how lucky you were to get poast the Dons....

I just confirmed my ticket for the Ess V Freo game...make sure you get in early guys, they only allocate 600 tickets for other teams' members....

Hopefully the Freo bandwagon will be emptying by then so we can get a walk up start....

You could be very disappointed if things keep going the way they are.
Hypothetically (I know you don't think this will happen, but humour me), if Geelong win the GF this year, do you think the GFC should extend Bombers contract?

So your dislike of Thompson is not based on coaching ability but on some personal issue?
Therefore does your personal issue with him outweigh your desire for the Cats to win a flag?

I don't know him personally.
You think he's a good coach do you?

Where did I say that?
You have to acknowledge that the way the Cats have been playing is not only a marked improvement on last year, but it also setting us up for a possible shot at a flag. I know you don't think we'll win it under Thompson, and I'm not convinced either, but to most people in the football world, they think it's a distinct possibility.
Therefore, if that possibility happens, will we hear this from you next year as well, or will you be agreeable if he is still around?

If he coached us to a premiership this year it would seem he is a good coach.
Last time I checked they don't just hand 'em out...

Yes.

Sacking him when the team has just won the ultimate is not a good move as I think will affect the moral of the team not so much for 2008 but in their preseason preparation (which is shortened already by playing in GF)

I never said you said he was a good coach. It was a question.
Not hard to improve on last year is it? He's had a top 4 squad for many years and delivered nothing.

I do, he has us playing attacking footy, yet we remain one of the best teams defensively. We play-on at every opportunity and kick long to contests. Funnily enough other teams have caught on and are playing more attractive footy. He may end up being responsible for the removable of this stupid tempo footy that Sydney started. Time will tell, but we would need to win a premiership to confirm its worth.

Bomber is now coaching the team on a full-time basis and it seems to be working wonders. Thanks Balmy!!

You're still avoiding the question.
IF they win this year, will you keep posting anti-Thompson senitments next year?

To answer your question... I think Thompson is a good game plan coach, but still has to improve on areas of gameday tactics. Personally, I think the clubs decision to keep him on has been vindicated. Only time will tell whether that was a brilliant decision.

And if he delivers this year?

Bomber has been here for 8 years. Of those years, only one was BAD (last year). So he is a good coach and time has proven that. I do think however soemtimes u need fresh ideas, so if we let Bomber go it woudlnt be isnt because he is a bad coach but rather we need fresh ideas.

I think Bomber is a good coach. He has practically built up this Geelong list from scratch, and seems to have a good eye for detail when it comes to the draft - for the most part his draft choices have been awesome. We have yet to finish low enough to get a No1. draft pick, yet despite that we have a young list now that is functioning better then most other teams young lists.

Arguably he has had one bad year, which was last year. And it wasn't horrible lets face it - while we were obviuously better then what we accomplished, we finished only a couple of games outside the 8, and had a number of close games throughout the year which had gone the other way would have pushed us in there. could have been alot worst. The two years previous though we missed out on 2 close Finals. Not to mention this year he has the Cats playing some of the most exciting football anyone has seen in a long time (except for maybe the Bulldogs.)

So yeah, I am not sure why alot of people seem to have utter disdain for Thompson. We could have done alot worst. Sure he makes a few dubious tactical decisions on gameday from time to time, and he doesn't present the most friendliest personality, but if we hadnt had that bad year last year, would people still have those thoughts?

Wow, and it would've been far more effective to say 'if' he wins in then yes, you'll concede he must be a good coach, but that you don't think he'll win it.

Tickets don't go on sale until Monday, right? I won't know until then, if I can get a ticket then I might be going to the pre/post game functions. I understand there's already about 250 people going. Anyone coming from interstate, have a look here: www.perthcats.org (http://www.perthcats.org) - call Gerry up and tell him whats happening and he may be able to sort you out for the function still.

Geelongs ticket allocation is all gone i think.
Tickets usually go on sale two weeks prior to the game for the general public.
When i spoke to Gerry last there was still plenty of pre game function tickets left.
As it is a Fremantle game we will have the bigger room at Subiaco i think so we can squeeze a fair few in for the after match.
Go Cats!!!!

Yeah, I missed out on the match tickets. I'll be getting to the newsagent bright and early Monday morning to get tickets for the game. Hopefully there aren't too many Dockers supporters who want to watch their team get crushed ;) Once I know I've got game tickets I'll be trying to get tickets to the function.
