Put some physical pressure on them. There 22 is so young its not funny. From the first ball we should use our harder bodies to make them hurt. Thomas, Pendles, Reid, Cloke. Get em hard, make em scared

They are a bunch of kids who are coming up against a team of men, show them what its like to play geelong.

If we do this we are halfway to the win, because everytime they go for the ball they know that they are gonna get crunched.

Good plan.
With Rocca playing might just come to fruition - they will have more scoring shots, we will kick more goals.
Simple.

Just tell them it's a grand final. They're fall over quicker than a house of cards in a cyclone then. :p

Get Dog one out in the forward 50.

They've never had a match up for him.

I think our strength against the pies will be in our midfield. While they do have a pretty good midfield, as the OP pointed out it is young and with the likes of Ablett, Bartel, Ling, etc etc applying alot of physical and mental pressure will be their undoing. However, they shouldn't be underestimated - they are a very good side with alot of flair and if the Cats napped at any point in the game the Pies are usually quick enough to take advantage of it.

That, and Malthouse is a damn gpood coach.

They might have a few youngsters but they have a fair dinkum crack. We really struggle against (lesser) teams that are even across the board but have depth in accountable, hard running, middle tier midfielders. See our recent record against Hawthorn, Kangaroos and the pies themselves. Can't see them beating us without any key defenders though.

You mean like 1967, 1989, 1992, 1994 or 1995????

It's because Collingwood is the only team we can do that too. It aint that confusing ;)

This is a little off topic but I know the easiest way to lose to the Pies. Just hold the ball up and chip it sideways instead of attacking the goals. This method worked a treat for the Saints.....

We have to and somewhat deserve to live with the calls of Colliwobbles from all fans....except Cats fans.

We still have to use the ball well though. I agree that our more experienced and therefore stronger bodies may be a factor, but there's a lot more to it than that.

To win we need to do all the basics right - go in hard, chase, man up, move the ball quickly and take our opportunities in front of goal. If we do all those things well we're every chance.

Don't underestimate Collingwood though. Despite their youth, their spirit is terrific and they've amply demonstrated this year they fully deserve their high ladder position. Plus they'll get Rocca and Shaw back at least.

Very tough game.

Nah, more like 1960, 1964, 1966, 1970, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, 2002 and 2003. :p

I think you will find the way to beat Collingwood is not trying to out muscle the youngsters even if your midfield looks bigger & better. That doesnt work in fact that is what we love, hard one on one contests everywhere. If you look at the games we have lost we have not been beaten by hard at it sides like Sydney & Adelaide (St Kilda?). Sides like the Dogs & the Hawks played the style we hate which is skillful quick movement of the ball with minimal contests. Both those were on the quick surface of telstra dome. Melbourne did the same to us in the first half (although we played terrible) & cut us to bits & they exposed our thin backline that day.

Geelong can play both styles but will get beaten if they think they can play hard one on one footy for the whole day.

Should seriously send Tomahawk onto the field and watch him make pies out of their weedy ferkin line up.

Not sure about that. I'm not saying if it's a tough game we'll automatically win, but either style of play suits us so we could still win a tight one.

Like I said, be very close.

Don't really care whether we do it the easy way or the hard way, so long as we do it! Don't want to lose to these ferkers one bit...

Nathan J Brown can't get into our side of 'weedy' defenders yet beat Hawkins in the VFL.

We lost to the same sides probably for the same reasons. With similar strengths we lead you on the ladder, nope, one on one is the go.

Yet Tomahawk seems to play better in the seniors than the VFL. Funny that.

Collingwood are a team that like to use the boundry and will try and play a West Coast style of game, if Geelong apply constant pressure like they do and are first in for the ball, i think Collingwood will struggle to get any fluency going. I think geelong struggle a bit when the ball moves quickly down the wings. Play Ling on Swan and pay close attention to lockyer who is a master on the outskirts and we should get home
