Player recieves Life ban.
Player receives life ban
The WRFL Tribunal last night suspended a player charged with striking an umpire for life. The life ban means that the player cannot play Australian Football in any competition in Australia as Tribunal decisions are universally acknowledged by all Leagues.
“The WRFL Tribunal has reached an objective conclusion that is consistent with the desires of the WRFL community to make its position on acceptable behaviour clear. The safety of any person associated with our League cannot and will not be compromised” WRFL President Ian Hamm said.
“The role of umpires in our game is paramount, for without them, our game is dead – there is no more football. All parties to the matter, the WRFL Umpires Association, the Sunshine Kangaroos FC and the Western Magpies FC have appreciated the gravity this incident has had on our League and wider football community and I thank them for the way in which they have responded to this difficult occurrence.”
“It is now time to move forward with the clear and unambiguous understanding that this and other anti-social behaviours will not be tolerated. I call on the WRFL community, from the under 9’s to Division 1 Seniors, all supporters and officials, to stand with our umpires and show them that we appreciate their critical participation in our game.”

I think i'm gonna have to agree with ROCK07 on this after his thread on WRFL Div1 that it would be unfortunate if the kid did get a life ban, heard that it was his first game/ or year playing footy from a Rugby back ground. The kid should of recieved a year minium and if the coppers are involved some sort of community service probably helping out umpires and finding out that they are exactly like us footballers but they run around in white and only throw the ball!!
I'm sure 99% of us at that age had some sort of aggression that we needed to get out [and this kid did that on that day to that ump, unfortunate, silly, reckless] but we overcome our stupid years and understand now that it was immature, this kid wont ever play footy again. Im sure we've done shit weather on or off the field, and if we had been told we would not be able to play footy again, life to some would be not be worth it.

Are you for real inka???
The kid knows you cant hit an umpire and he did. At that age we all had some aggression but very, very few of us if any at all, would be that stupid. I say he should be banned from even attending another football game. We don't need dogs like that in our league!
He wants aggression then go box

All though a very strong penalty, the young man had to be made an example of, it's unacceptable to belt anyone on a footy field, and although players have dust ups, players can have a crack back and protect themselves and have 17 mates looking out for them, the poor umpire can't do anything except try and get out of the way of the attack. The league could not be seen to take this incident lightly and nor should they have.

You gotta be kidding, the fact that it was his first game and first year in football and coming from a rugby background surely spells out that he was only there for trouble.
He got what he deserved, if he had any intentions on playing footy for a longer period of time he wouldn't have hit the umpire, its as simple as that.
He can stick to rugby, we don't need thugs playing our game.

He got what he deserved from a football disciplinary side of things i can only hope he get's what he deserves by the courts too and if it's the kid i'm thinking of then he really has no place on the footy field a week or so before this incident there was a game in which the kid who i believe hit the umpire came from the bench and onto the ground to join into a push and shove between a few players....he was looking for trouble he is not needed in our league period!
