Ayce is named on the interchange bench for his first game. Good luck to the boy. Not too sure of his date of birth.
With the new father/son laws to be introduced whereby the best bid gets the player, it may be worth picking him up earlier before his stocks rise.
Having said that, most clubs are able to identify talent at a very early age. Is he at drafting age yet? Something tells me he is only 16yo. Can anyone confirm?

Shit theres a hell of a lot of development there! 200cm isnt bad for a kid whos turning 17, he could still get taller i would imagine.

Can we get him in this draft? Or even stick him on one of those development contracts?

17 we can draft him but he cant be put on a development contract as he is not from NSW and they are for 14-16 yo

Interesting that they say the Bulldogs are interested in him

State withdrawals hit Geelong hard (http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,22069826%255E19775,00.html)

FIFTH-PLACED Geelong Falcons will have four Vic Country representatives unavailable for tomorrow's Round 12 clash with the Eastern Ranges at Geelong West.

Eastern (sixth) are without two Vic Metro players.
Players who were involved in the under-18 AFL national championships this month are ineligible for selection this weekend to aid their recovery from those matches.
"That's in their (Eastern's) favour a little bit," Geelong Falcons regional manager Michael Turner said.
"We have made a lot of changes to our side that was beaten by Gippsland.
"And even though we were beaten by eight goals, 10 minutes into the last quarter we had a shot on goal to put us 11 points in front and the kick went into the man on the mark.
"Our form this year has been good. We have won six and lost five but I reckon at least three of those five games we probably should have won and it would have put us in a stronger position.
"Eastern is an improved side and the fact that we have four state and they've got only two state out makes a big difference."
Turner said the Falcons were introducing a few players they wanted to have a look at.
He said Ayce Cordy, son of former Footscray defender Brian (124 games, 1981-88), would play his first Falcons match tomorrow.
"He is 205cm, built like a beanpole. There is a lot of interest from the Western Bulldogs in him," Turner said.

We'll lets get him i say.

Isnt it a 4th or 5th rounder we have to use to get a player under the F/S? Or can we rookie list him?

Given that he's not yet 17, he won't be eligible for this year's draft as he had to 17 by April 30 and clearly he's not.
This is actually a good thing as it'll mean we'll be able to watch him for a while before deciding whether to take him as f/s if he improves to be worthy of drafting.
Obviously ruckmen are the most difficult to determine of underage players, so let's just let him play and see where it goes :thumbsu:

205 cm, i read some things on him last year and im sure they said he was only 193 or so, huge jump.

Could get to the 212 stages, dont expect anything for 5 years tho at the height.

It used to be a 3rd round draft choice, but under the new rules we would have to nominate the selection with which we would draft the kid. If we offered, say, a second round draft choice, we could in theory be trumped by another club. The only guaranteed way of getting a player under father-son would be to offer a first round draft pick. No doubt that if this rule were in place last year, Geelong would have had to use its first draft choice to secure Hawkins.

its not that cutthroat. the other clubs have to say what round they would draft him, and then we get to use our next available pick after that. We know in advance what the price will be.

Falcons unveil Ayce in pack
16 July 2007 Herald Sun
Geoff Poulter

LANKY ruck Ayce Cordy shone in his debut game for Geelong in the Falcons' 27-point TAC Cup win against the Eastern Ranges at Geelong West yesterday.

Cordy, son of former Footscray defender Brian (124 games for the Bulldogs), kicked three of his team's 11 goals in the Round 12 clash after starting on the bench.
"We didn't want to knock him around too much. I think he's 205cm, about six foot seven. But he's only 17 and he's a beanpole, no meat on his bones," Falcons region manager Michael Turner said.
"He just basically played forward pocket with a licence to roam where he wanted to.
"He started on the bench but when he came on the ground he made a big impact. He's going to be a good player."
Turner said the Western Bulldogs had taken an interest in Cordy, who is too young for this year's national draft.
"I have been in the program a long time and if ever a kid was going to get drafted, it will be him. But it will have to be next year," Turner said.
"The difficult one for the Bulldogs -- and the great advantage Geelong has had -- is having an automatic pick to get them (as a father-son selection). But now it is a bidding process.
"So, depending on how well he develops, clubs are going to bid for him.
"He is too young this year but he will certainly be in the mix next year.
"He is just very competitive, he's got a great attitude, he is very footy smart. You can just tell the way he does things.
"At the start of the year he had a bit of a hip problem. He has just grown so quickly and you have to really careful you don't knock these kids around.
"We were happy to take him steadily early in the year and watch his progress at Geelong College.
"I saw him play (there) a couple of weeks ago and he was outstanding.
"We gave his first game and now he'll go back to college for his next three and then no doubt we'll play him for the rest of the year."

After what Poulter wrote about the Jets/Cannons game the week previously, I would not put too much faith in the accuracy of his reporting...as for talking to Mick Turner? A TAC Cup Regional Manager's job is to get kids drafted, so I wouldn't take much from that either.

But. Eastern have been playing well, and are a renowned marking side. If Cordy has got his hands on it playing at ff, then that is a positive sign.

Good to see he named his son after the lead guitarist from Kiss, could have spelt the name correctly though!

Just in case he's any good, we need to get some serious propaganda going right now! Last thing we want is a lot of hot air talking him up and then having other clubs bidding high and forcing us to pay over the odds for him.

So as of now, I will be telling all and sundry that he's a dud!:D

The problem at the moment is that he has made state representative basketball squads and will soon need to make a choice between the 2 sports. We need to ensure footy is his preference otherwise we may miss out altogether.

My location says brighton because i was previously banned from the site and it would be fishy if it said geelong, as for the punctuation, if you had ANY clue how teenagers operated, it is that over msn etc. we dont care about spelling. Also i have just as much a right to be on this site as you guys do and in my personal opinion, which is neither right or wrong, i think it is more relevant to teenagers. I also do go to Geelong College lol, i could name the principle, the houses, whatever you like. I also played bball with ayce last night for your information.
