According to the Ballarat Courier, Carngham-Linton have been looking for a spot in the Central Highlands FL for the past couple of years.
Where would this leave the LPFL? Since inception in 1999, Marnoo and Landsborough have entered recess, Dunolly have taken off to the Loddon Valley FL, and the Ararat Eagles have joined from the Horsham DFL.
As the Lexton Plains FL is the result of a combine (Western Plains and Lexton FLs), the clubs are a little staggered, with a few based well north of the Western Hwy (old Lexton FL teams) and a few based south (old Western Plains FL teams).
The northernmost of the WPFL teams are Carngham-Linton and Illabarook, both of which are at least thinking about seeking acceptance into the CHFL. If this goes ahead, there'll be an even larger no-mans-land between the towns from each of the two old leagues.
The distances now required to be travelled by local clubs is becoming a little more ludicrous every year. The LPFL will begin to look like a bit of a barbell, and I envisage that it won't last in this format. Old WPFL teams will probably end up in the Mininera & DFL or Central Plains FL, and old Lexton FL teams will probably head off either the Maryborough-Castlemaine DFL (Lexton, Avoca), the Central Highlands FL (Lexton, Avoca), the Loddon Valley FL (Natte-Bealiba) or perhaps even the Horsham DFL (Navarre).
Only four of the 7 1998 Lexton FL teams remain. The Western Plains FL teams have suffered similarly, with Cressy folding and Derrinallum disappearing into merger. The Lexton Plains FL is already looking a bit contrived, with two teams of Bulldogs, and townsfolk becoming disinterested due to the upheaval (I was at Avoca last year for a meal and heard from locals that is just not as interested as the old rivalries are now comprised by new opponents arriving and old enemies leaving).

Clubs looking for new home bases next year.
By KEN HILL and DAVID BREHAUT
THEY say where there is smoke there is generally fire and there are several smoke-like rumours coming through to Footy Focus at the moment.
Of the most interesting rumours is that Redan is contemplating a move to the Eastern Oval while the Ballarat Swans have been linked to a return to the City Oval, presumably retaining Alfredton Oval for its growing junior section.
Lexton Plains teams Carngham-Linton and Illabarook are also supposedly looking at the prospect of a future application to the Central Highlands league which already has 13 teams.
Next season Carngham-Linton will apply for entrance into the CHFL for the third consecutive season, a club spokesman said yesterday.
We now wait in anticipation if the other rumours continue to gain credibility.
