Bradley 5/10??? Didn't do much???????????
You sure you were watching?
He was outstanding.
Gumby was alright, but nowhere near Bradleys level.
Houli still looked fairly indecisive to me, not ready to come back to the AFL.
Heff looks done.
Gumbleton 6/10 ? more like 3/10. Not one of his better days.
Bradley 5/10 ? Looks like you let your bias get in the way. Was one of our best 4. 7/10 for keps.
Heff looks done.
I thought Heff put in a good last quarter. It can't see him being promoted but that performance was hardly as bad as you've inferred.

He was bloody terrible in the first 3/4.

One decent quarter...
He's a seasoned AFL player, should be doing a hell of alot more in the VFL.
Absolutely love the bloke, but can't see him playing many more games for the Essendon football club.

Give Kepler a break. Ran hard, didnt have any major stuff ups and presented all day. He was easily one of our better players. Heath was awesome, had about 32 touches and 15 marks. Kicked 1 goal 2 behinds but his field play was awesome. Tackling fantastic and was easily my BOG despite our loss.
Gumbleton did ok but didnt really have a shot at it. What he did was good when he had it was good though. Will be better for the run. Very dissapointing loss in the end.

Bradley played very well today. Along with Hocking, Rosa, Carter and Houli as the BB's best players. Dick looks a likely type. He is very cool under pressure and is a great spoil. I thought Charlie Maher showed a bit. Does anyone know anything about him?

Kepler Bradley and Heath Hocking were Bendigo's best.
After watching Dean Dick for the first time today, he didn't leave a very good first impression.
Lacked any sought of physcial presence in a contest, most of the time looked disinterested and soft. His performance was diplorable, and his attack on the ball and the man were at times embarassing.
Kepler was superb. Hocking showed good signs, wonder if he'll be around next
year.
Bolton and Heffernan should play out the season with Bendigo. VFL is their right level.
We really do need another ruckman. Chartres was not recruited to play in the ruck.
Gumbleton Not one of his better games. Did a couple of nice things but there where a few contests where he didnt really jump at the ball.
Bradley Anpther good showing from Bradley. Worked hard and presented well. Tried hard in the ruck but wasnt thtat effective there. Overall a good game again.
Johns His second quarter was good when he went forward but overall he didnt do a lot. Ordinary game.
Bolton Got a lot of the footy and played well. Made a few erors but was pretty good.
Heffernan Very poor for the first 3/4. Hardly got a touch and when he did he turned it over. Was better in the last quarter but over all he was poor.
Lee A few clangers with his kicking but he got to the contest and took some grabs this week. Wouldnt say he was great but it was a better effort.
Reimers Kyle looked a bit greedy today , taking impossible shots rather than looking for options. Didnt use the ball all that well at times. Not one of his better days.
Hocking Thought he was great. Got a heap of the ball ran hard all day. 36 possessions , 12 marks and 1.2 was a good return .Missed a couple of gettable shots on goal and had a couple of lazy kicks in the last quarter when he was tired but he was very good. Thought he was our best.
Dick Still looks to be trying to find his touch. Did a few handy things when he got the footy but was also guilty of a few sloppy kicks.
Chartres As usual Dany tried hard but he had an uphill battle today against bigger ruckman. Was a bit down on previous games.
Houli Was pretty steady through the first 3/4. Didnt see much of it in the last but was pretty good. Also missed a couple of gettable goals. Worked in well with Hocking for a lot of the day.
Cloke Was probably the worst i have seen him play today. Nothing seemed to go right for him.
Rosa Gets a lot of the footy and runs hard but also turns it over a lot and often puts huge pressure on his teamates with short handballs. He can play and can get the footy. I am always left thinking how good could he be if he could consistantly hit targets.
Atkinson good second half.
Carter tried hard up forward.
Maher ran pretty hard all day and did some good work.

I think he was still pretty much feeling his was after the shoulder injury. At times he looked like he didnt want to takle for fear of him hurting his shoulder.

Bolton and Heffernan shouldnt get anywhere near senior level unless we are really scraping the barrel for selection.
Cod ordinary, they pulled the same old dumb football at VFL level today those 2.

Does his shoulder affect his ability to run? There were plenty of times where he was in a good position to lay a tackle, mark or create a spoil.
His shoulder is fine. His heart isn't.

ant555,
This was only the 2nd time I've seen Gumbleton and I must say he hasn't really impressed me so far.
For a No 2 pick he doesn't seem to have any sort of 'wow' factor that makes you sit up and take notice. Also to me is a little bit one dimensional in that once the ball is on the ground he seems a bit lost.
I know he's young but he was playing on kids himself today.
Then I see a kid like Selwood who looks fantastic.
Will be interested in what Thorp does for Hawthorn tomorrow because despite all the hype over the talls in last years draft, none of them have really set the world on fire.
By the way I think Carlton have a little beauty in Mark Austin.
I think he's only 17 but looks so composed.
Will be a good player for them.

I was surprised at how well Kepler Bradley played the CHF positon. Presented himself up the ground well and didn't get in the way of leading forwards. Definitely a spot for him in the seniors nothing wrong with having too many options. Wasn't as damaging when he was in the ruck but he's not a ruckman so who cares.
Gumby was ordinairy but I didn't think Ryder set the world on fire last year and he sure has come along nicely.

Ryder did some things last season that made you realise that he was a unique talent. Gumbleton - I'm just not so sure at the moment.
On Andrew Lee - If he can only just break square with Digny Morell then how is he going to handle guys like Brown, Rocca etc ?
Can't understand why he got a two year contract last season.
Well we better hope we have a good day at the draft table this year as there isn't much to get excited about that took the field today.
Poor goal kicking and disposal and decision making cost us any chance but the Bullants are nothing to write home about either.
C.Johns proves once again what a spud he is whether it's at AFL or VFL level.
The sooner the club realize this the better we will be.
A.Lee is becoming a worry, maybe he is not a backman?
Gumby was poor today and appears to be low on confidence.
Hocking and Bradley easily the best.
Bradley was great. His marking and presenting at times looked really good and it lookes as though he has built up his fitness so he can play for longer periods and get to more contest. He was also very impressive below his knees.
Should be looked at playing him as a flank in the seniors and see if he can produce the same.

Bendigo really shouldv'e won this won. But their kicking wasn't good enough and they payed the price. Kepler and Bolton were really good. But I think the best player for Bendigo wasn't on the Essendon list. His name is Matt Rosa and he is a very good player.

Its actually Simon Rosa our captain. He has been one of Bendigo's best for years. I hope the club re drafts Ben Jolly at years end, he has had a very good year for the side as has rookie Heath Hocking. The way L-Murray is playing tonight it would have made more sense to play Bradley instead.
I hope Lee still isn't under contract because he is a waste of space on our list. Also whats happened to Lonergan?? he is another who is running out of time at the club.

Why not, that's what we need another slow midfielder.

poor gumby every time he went for a mark or had positioned himself well ,either, johns, bradley or number 14 would jump in his way

Gumby played very poorly today compared to what he is capable of.
Johns is hack and the sooner he is gone the better

Agreed.
There is very little in Bendigo that played today that would make it at AFL level

I would like 2 see Essendon pick in the draft an incredibly good midfielder, called Rhys Falmer, who played in U18 Vic Country team. He runs his heart out and he is extremely fast and uses the ball well. He is exactly what we need in our midfield.
Does his shoulder affect his ability to run? There were plenty of times where he was in a good position to lay a tackle, mark or create a spoil.
His shoulder is fine. His heart isn't.
The thing you have to remember with Dick is until yesterday he played only a couple full games of footy for the year due to injury. He has missed a lot of footy and training. Yes he was ordinary but he is pretty rusty as well. I know there where a few stories going around about him being promoted early this year but thats all they where. He is on the rookie list because he is a project player who can do some special things when he has the footy in his hands but he has a lot of rough edges to smooth off.

I knew these comparisons would start coming up eventually. Yes Selwood looks like being an absolute star and would have been a worthy number one pick for us but we also needed to pick talls to develop for the future as well. Given we had the priority pick and second round pick to grab Hislop and Jetta im still comfortable with our selection. Even more so given Davey and Houli have also come on board. I know you dont rate talls that highly but i still think that we went the right way taking a good tall first and then drafting 5 smalls. Geelong look smart now but if they didnt have Hawkins already sown up they would have been looking at talls first.
Anyway back to Gumby , he has played seven games now. He has had 3 really good ones. One reasonable game and 3 poor games. Yesterday he didnt do much but coming of a serious hammy injury i always thought he may take 3 or 4 games to find the rythem again. You are right in saying that he hasnt had that wow factor in a few of his games but the thing i like about him is he can read the play and knows where to run. When you see players like Johns have a poor day they dont get to contests and seem to be leading to the wrong place. So far this year Gumby has shown that even on the bad days he has known where to lead and he has been getting to 10 or so contests in a game. He gets hands to the footy a lot of times. When his confidence is up he takes 7 or 8 of those pack marks. When it is down he drops them.Patience is all that is needed with him. Once he builds a bit of strength he will show his talents. Hopefully he gets a clear run with injury from now. In hindsight it is very easy to say we should have gone Selwood as most supporters where looking for a instant fix after last year.
By the way I think Carlton have a little beauty in Mark Austin.
I think he's only 17 but looks so composed.
Will be a good player for them.
Yes he is , he was one player i was hoping we would get a shot at in the draft at pick three but the Blues got in first. Given we got Davey with our third pick so it didnt end up that bad.
On Andrew Lee - If he can only just break square with Digny Morell then how is he going to handle guys like Brown, Rocca etc ?
Can't understand why he got a two year contract last season[QUOTE]
With the form Lee is showing now it is very easy to question why he was signed for two years. The fact is he was pretty good last year so he was signed. This year he has struggled with injury and poor form so he looks bad.
Im sure all clubs would love the crystall ball that tells them players are going to be worse than the year before.
At the end of last year Lee's form was good enough to deserve a two year deal. Unfortuneatly this year he has gone backwards.
[QUOTE=rioli brownlow]turn it up

No turn it up about it . He didnt have a great day out. Not that im that worried at the moment. When he gets a bit of size about him he will be taking a lot of those marks as he will be able to hold his position rather than get pushed out of the contest.

So would a few supporters of clubs bellow us . Even if we tank the rest of the year i suspect he may go before we have our first pick. All is not lost though there are 3 or 4 other real quality midfielders that we will get a shot at.
For the Gumby knockers, do remember he was pitted against 3 guys for a reasonable amount of the match.
He didn't have a great day, but it wasa tough game for him to get too involved in.
I'm certainly not worried about him, take one look at his body and you'll realise that he's still in the aerly stages of development.

Got to agree about Gumby. You can tell by the way he reads the ball and grabs it that he is a cut above your normal young KPP.
He reminds me of the way Jonathon Brown moves and reads the play.

I thinks its Rhys Palmer and I am pretty sure he played for U18 Western Australian team. Anyway he definitely looked good getting about 30 possessions and 5 goals in the game against Vic Metro. It would be good if we got him although I think he may get snapped up early in the draft.
