Still can't believe that people were calling for his head eariler in the year. What drop-kicks.

I had this drop-kick behind me at the game on Saturday who when Jetta blundered big time the run into goal (his second for the day mind you) started carrying on "who is that kid?" "is it is first game, it will certainly be his last".

It was so annoying, yes he made a blue but the talent is there, in the future he will make the right call and kick it himself, he would have had 4 for the day if he did.

The point is, morons cannot see talent.

Should have nailed that goal in the first quarter, got caught in two minds, do I care and share ? or do I slam it through ?

HAHA! I turned to my friend and said the same thing when it happened at the game, I was right behind it. By the time he realized that sharing isn't the best option he had run in to far and stuffed it up, was quite amusing :). He will fall into the crumbing role quite nicely though, could also work well as a forward running midfielder I reckon with his tackling ability and leg speed. Great and exciting player can't wait till he reaches his full potential. I now have a Guernsey with "7" on the back! :D bought it in Melbourne.

And confident, its good to have a youngster that backs himself.

Loved how he switched jumpers at 1/4

Hasn't showed it enough yet but I reckon he's got the goods to be as classy a small player that we've had since Mercury. I think he'll develop into a star of the league within the next 3 years.

Needs to find an increased element of selfishness, which may be confused for a greater self confidence.

Either way, he needs to back himself, because all the signs are there! :thumbsu:

After reading about Andrew MacLeod this weekend and his fantastic carreer it got me thinking about Leroy Jetta.

When he was first drafted he looked up to Andrew MacLeod and was said to be a similar type player, Macleod in his 4-5th season started to be a champion winning Norm Smith medals and taking his side to the top.

Jetta's 4-5th season will be 2010/2011 which is about when we will be really looking to take on the comp and hopefully bring home the bacon. By this stage he will have hopefully about 70 games under his belt and with continual improvement hopefully can be the same as Macleod was for adelaide.

Was just curious on the thoughts of other essendon postersas to where they see jetta with our clubs time line and if they see the same similarities?

If Jetta gets anywhere near McLeod in terms of consistency and achievements then you'd have to be very very happy. Looks like a decent player thus far - early days though.

Jetta still has to build up his engine because so far he can only have an impact in the forward pocket.

I hope he turns out half as good as McLeod.

He'll be one of those players that will pinch hit in the middle but spend more time across half forward.

Certainly has bucketloads of ability, when he gets more experience he'll be excellent.

Needs to find alot more ball before you make this kind of comparison / prediction. At the moment for mine he is a Rioli - tons of talent, great when he the pill, but will he make an effort to get it enough?

Interesting Q&A on Leroy in the paper here in the West raised afew eye brows.

The question was what he would be doing if he wasnt playing AFL. Leroy replied "living back in WA".

Not panic stations by any means but it must raise some questions about his state of mind as nearly every player says "uni, apprentice, travelling etc". 'Living back in WA' is somewhat unusual IMO. Or maybe he just took a very literal point of view to the question.

Especially since he has recently signed a 2 year contract

Of course he would be living in WA if he didnt play footy. Do you think he would just make the trip over here because Victoria is a better state? (I wouldnt have blamed him imo ;))

For someone who is known to have explosive pace, it doesn't look like he can break the lines or burn players off with the ball.

^^^^
May possibly still be suffering the lingering effects of the OP that ruined his first season??

Leroy still has a long way to go to becoming an elite and consistent footballer but he has shown glimpses of the brilliance we all know he is capable of.

His natural talent is undeniable and he is a genuinely exciting prospect for our football club.

He's also had some hip troubles so i guess he wasn't quite 100%. And at that stage of the season, there aren't many players that are, especially with younger players.

I don't think he'll see a lot of time in the middle next year but more as a perminant small forward, because in fairness to him, the delivery has been shithouse lately. Which would explain the small amount of touches.

The thought of a fully fit Alwyn Davey and Leroy Jetta in the forward line in mouth watering :D

Remarked during the Saints game that he looked shackled when he tried to run. Nowhere near his best.

I still have a few question marks on him. i never rated him as high as some in the draft and i still question how consistant he will end up.
He does some good things but he also goes missing a lot and he has a bit of a habit of not going as hard as he can at a contest or not picking the ball up when he feels pressure from behind. There is no doubting his tallent but i worry he has too many Lovett traits. Needs to play more like Davey.

Ant, do you think he's small disposal count is due to his fitness or through not being able to read the play?

Windas_Magic

I think he'll be a very good small forward short-term but the question over him is if he is capable of making the transition from forward to midfielder in the future.

This will obviously take some time because if you look at him now, he still isn't that fit and he is so small body wise. He is easily pushed off the ball and he just can't dive in for the footy because he'll just be crushed. He really does look like a littly boy playing out on the ground.

I wouldn't worry about him to be honest, he'll look so much more dangerous with Alwyn in the team and he can only get better. People forget how good he was looking before he did his hammy and there were a few games where he excited and showed promise, the Freo game in particular.

Agree with ant on the inconsistency and fading out of games issue, but that is mainly because of his current fitness base therefore he can't continuously push himself to contests.

A fitter Leroy in '09 with a firing Davey will be mouthwatering, just wait.

He can read the game ok. There is no problem with that.
I just don't think he is as good as the hype and have had that view since i saw him playing under 16 footy.

I am not forgetting anything. In case you missed it i said had the same doubts before he was drafted. Even in his best games he has only ever put together short bursts of footy. Simply has to get better in that area and i question how much he can given his whole career has been similar. He was doing the same in the 2006 champ games and it is the reason he did slide well out of the top ten after being touted as a top 10 pick from his under 16 days.

In 2 years we'll all be celebrating how we've got this absolute gun playing for us.

In 2 years time he'll be a cross between Andrew Mcleod and Leon Davis.

His body shape is developing nicely, skills are fantastic, work in traffic is great and he's not afraid to get in amongst it.

In 2010 he'll announce himself the footy public.

Jetta needs to develop a tank so that he can have stints in the midfield.

I dont believe that he will be a gun player in the midfield ,but it will free him up from the forward line which can be a frustrating place for small players.

Jetta has good speed, peripheral awareness and is good at clearances, but needs to be cleaner when picking up loose balls. He often panics and fumbles ground balls when under pressure.

Fine, I won't go out jogging, I'll sit on my arse and get fat(ter). You happy Spikey? Are you happy? Are you?:thumbsd:

He was with someone else, probably from Essendon, but I didn't have my contacts on, so I couldn't recognise him.

I saw Leroy's tatts on his arms, then I thought "that guy has the same tatts as Leroy Jetta", then I thought "that IS Leroy Jetta".

He's looking pretty tank.

PS Spikey, if I was stalking him, I'd have asked for an autograph.:p
