Im going from Sydney and my Parents are coming from Darwin just to see the game.. ( my poor mum isnt a footy kinda gal so i feel a little sorry for her.. But hey, she gets to see me for the first time since Christmas :D )
Anyway... Lets home that with the Money and effort from the 3 of us attending that they dont let us down.. Its been a while since ive attended a game that they have won.
The last 3 were
Prelim Final 2005 V Syd
Cats V Sydney @ Telstra Stadium 2006
and Cats V Nth Melb @ Manuka Oval Canberra ( I cant remember if the last 2 are in order or not)
So im hoping..... They make it 11 in a Row:thumbsu:;)

This will be our biggest test for a while. Now although we've won 10 games in a row, we havent played to the best of our ability in the last month which is partially due to the opposition and partially due to the conditions. I hope that the Cats can return to our best sort of form as I think that is what will be needed to beat the Bulldogs. Mooney will be important and it will go a long way if he has his kicking boots on. Nathan Ablett will be very important too as he is vital as the second tall which we really missed today. Let's hope we can make it 11 in a row! :D

If Geelong dont get it in quickly and long (but also smart, not blind long kicks...but long kicks to 1 v 1's) I'm going to explode.
Round 1 was insipid. It was Mid 2006-esque.
Mooney, Hawkins, Ottens, Nablett (if av.) against their backline. Why wouldn't we.

Round was 1 was like. Ok...so lets ignore our tall fowards..and chip it round the backline 10 times...and then blindly bomb it in after they have flooded us...my brain was fryed after that.

na, should be a cracker, Friday night football as well. Last year's games were beautys. If it was at the G or Kardinia (or skilled or whatever you guys call it now) I'd day you should be clear favourites but we're good at the dome. When the Saints won 10 in a row a few yrs back we beat them so we cand o it again now. Harris can beat Mooney, Hargrave on Nathan Ablett. Cooney on G. Ablett would be great to see.
Good luck, hope it's as close as last year's games, preferably the first one.

If the players go into the game with this attitude then I will really be worried that our season has just begun to crumble. Ladder position is irrelevant. If the lads work hard and lose to the better team on the day then we can live with that. But to go out with an attitude of "ohhh it doesn't matter if we lose cos we are 3 games up on the ladder"....that could be the beginning of the end. Mediocrity is unacceptable.

I'd much rather get the players ready for September now, than too late.
They look like they are suffering.
Going to be a cracker of a game.
Both teams dont have much pressure going into it. Cats are 3 clear. Dogs against the best in the comp.
Both could be excused if it was a close match.
Will Ablett play? If so will Hawkins be dropped?
IMO the midfield is where this match will be won or lost.

Agree with everything in there, except that one word in bold - Ottens. In case no one noticed, he was played up forward for the vast majority of the round 1 clash and what happened? We lost.
Am I the only person who has noticed where Ottens has played the last 10 games? The ruck. Not in the forward line. Notice the first 10 minutes on Saturday, he started in the goalsquare, Blake in the middle. Two goals to Collingwood later, Thompson takes Blake off, puts Hawkins in the square and Ottens on the ball where he should have been in the first place. And what happened? The next 5 goals to Geelong.
If we play Ottens up forward against the Dogs I am almost certain we will lose. If we play Ottens in the ruck and leave Mooney, Nathan Ablett and maybe Hawkins up forward, well I am a lot more confident of victory.

Partridge, good to see your words amongst all this rabble about remotes and stuff.
And yes - we discuss this ad nauseum - Ottens should only drift down forward to pinch hit the odd goal during play, not start out of the goal square. The first ten minutes we totally lost our way to the rubbish the pies dished up. Ottens back in the ruck, changing with Blake when he needs a rest, complete turn around.

I completely agree and saw the same thing. Ottens was named in the ruck but I noticed Blake starting there, with Ottens deep in the forward line.
The fact is, in two and a half years playing for Geelong, Ottens may have had serious impact maybe once or twice at the most playing forward. He is much more useful in the middle - especially this week. If I remember correctly, Blake struggled against Footscray last time.

How often do third-gamers carve up the best attack in the competition?
But seriously, PoidaCat is spot on. We lost in Round 1 because we played an indirect, inefficient style of footy. We played like we did in 2006. If we've learnt anything this year it's that play direct footy generally yields good results.

Completely agree on Otto.
Ruckman only. Can go into the forward line for a REST, but only as a result of one of our forwards needing a rest (like Hawkins needing a few minutes on the pine).
My grave fear is that when it comes to finals, Thompson starts thinking we need Ottens down forward to provide some experience. My hope is that he realises we need his experience in the middle, which means it will matter less that the forwards are inexperienced.

I also think that our inexperienced forwards - Nathan Ablett and Hawkins - already look far more dangerous than Ottens ever has with us. They are both natural marking forwards and goalkickers. Ottens isn't and never will be.
I'll be quite happy in finals taking a risk on both those young guys doing the business for us. I'll predict certain defeat if Ottens lines up at full-forward.

Agreed. Even if we end up losing finals with Hawkins and Nablett in the forward line, I'll know it won't have been a better result if Ottens had been there instead.
Often, when you lose games you look back and think, 'what if...', but this is a situation where that would not be the case. There is no 'what if' here. Ottens will not provide anything better than our two forwards despite their inexperience.

I love how every oppo supporter has been predicting a loss - just makes it feel a tad sweeter when we go on to win anyway ;)
Anyway, I am a little worried about this week, but if we play the tough, hard running game that we've made our own the last few weeks, we'll be alright. The Dogs always give us problems but I think if we play the we have been, we can handle them. Just have to keep on top of West and Cooney, so Rooke will definitely be missed, but Ling should be able to take one of those blokes and we'll see how the midfield battle goes. If Brad Johnson can be controlled we'll be in a with a big chance, he's the key for sure.

I don't think anyone disagrees with you, mate. While 'desperation move' is a little bit too harsh, Ottens going forward isn't the preferred option.
IMO we look infinitely more dangerous forward anyway. Stokes and Dog add a whole new dimension, while Chapman can spend a lot more time forward because Selwood has stood up so well in the middle. Should be an absolute cracker of a game.

Why have we been disappointing?
Apart from our usual poor losses to St.Kilda, Adelaide and Sydney and 2 bad performances against Carlton and the Kangaroos we have performed pretty well.
We haven't set the world on fire, but we are only one game off 2nd spot. We have introduced back into the team 3 blokes coming off knee re-con's who have taken there time finding there feet, but this was expected. Our much publicised recruit from Brisbane has had a slow start to the season, but is regaining his touch. We have also introduced a host of young players who have proabably out performed the club's expectation.
It's all ok to be high and mighty as your team is flying, but to say we have been disappointing, well you are further from the truth than you think. Not saying we will beat you this week, but if we can hold our form and make the finals I know that you guys wouldn't be to keen on facing us, what you being the red-hot favourite and all.

We played our tallest, heaviest team for the year in the opening round against the Dogs, without little Stokes and Varcoe up forward. They're two reasons why Chop's backline will provide less run this time around.

Prior to the season the doggies were apparently Victoria’s great white hope; they were to end the interstate dominance and most people forecasted a top four finish.
Sadly this has not happened. I really like the dogs; enjoy watching their game style, but their supporters (along with most other teams’ supporters) insisted that they were to achieve greatness this year, and that the cats were pretenders and would struggle to make the finals…

Fair call - we have been disappointing. Darcy hasn't come back as expected and has been a passenger at times. Murphy looks miles away form the rampagin forward he was pre-hi knee. Cooney until the last few weeks was quiet and well held and we have dropped games by big margins against big bodied teams and then lost to teams we should have beaten. Our style has been exploited and found wanting and we have struggled to develop an alternative style.
The game against Geelong will be a huge test for us to play a team who has overcome the disappointments of last year and have put together some very good performances based around hard working footy. I hope its a close game tho and that the doggies end up with the points, but I think you have learnt from your mistakes in round 1 and more importantly will have watched the way the Saints/Adelaide and WCE in particular took us apart. I expect a cats win, though I really hope we get up.

geelong are a good side and there's no doubting that but some of you guys have been pretty adamant in writing the doggies off and saying we're "johnno central" blah blah, i dont really mind that but its seems you guys are forgetting some of the players who have been slowly finding their feet again such as darcy, hahn and murphy who are all players who can be extremely damaging especially someone like murphy. akermanis played easily his best game last week and brian harris and tom williams are looking like theyre turning into a fairly formidibble duo for kpp down back, also players like higgins and gilbee can pop up and hurt anyone.
i have to agree we have, at times, been average like against carlton, st kilda and sydney but we're equal 4th or something like that and honestly im reasonably happy about that.
onto the game and i think it should be close, wouldnt be surprised if we won just as much as i wouldnt be surprised if the cats won probably 60-40 chances the cats way mostly based on form
