after reading posts about future delistings that essendon will have to make in the future it has seemed to me people get to attached to certain players. The players iam talking about are players such as mark johnson, damian peverill etc.
No one here would question these players commitment towards the footy club, but personally i feel the club needs to make some really tough decisions and let these players go. People will come back to this post and say they have had good seasons they deserve another contract, but i will say to you what advantage does the future of the essendon team have when players like mark johnson and damian peverill are playing each week, we could not only be developing our younger players but also finidng out if some of them can even play at AFL level.
Players like lonergan are not even getting game at the moment and dyson in and out of thse side, i would perfer these players to stay on the list before the players M. Johnson and Peverill.

I think there is a big element of sentiment, I also think there is a big section of our support base that are ruthless and over critical.
The truth probably lays somewhere in between.

They are not getting a game because they aren't good enough (or injured). If we were only playing inexperienced players we wouldn't be out of the 8 on percentage. We have blooded some new players this year. If we aren't going to make the 8 fine, put some games into the young guys. While we are still a shot at finals our best 25 should be out there... atm that is MJ and Pev.

People also seem to forget that players are not robots and actually have emotions. If you get delisted from a club you are in effect being sacked. It also depends who is being delisted etc I'm sure the players have a fair say as well. Perhaps someone like a Bolton hasn't been delisted because he is so popular with the playing group that to do so would alienate a few team-mates.

Our players on the bottom of the list arn't playing well enough at the moment to force MJ and Pev out of the 22.
I would rather delist someone like Cole who isn't even performing well for Bendigo than MJ.

I'm a believer that you put your best side out onto the park.
If the kids are promising, like Davey, Nash, Ryder etc, they'll be in the best 22.
If you don't play the guys like Pev who are playing well, you'll never have your best side on the park and just have a bunch of kids!
I see your point, and there's only 22 spots, but as long as they are performing, you shouldn't drop the older players, just because a kid might like a go.
I believe however that when there is an injury, that a younger player should replace them unless we've got another star coming back.
For example, there's no point bringing in guys that won't be here next year like Bolton and Cole.
So maybe that's your point and I just think the Pev and MJ have another year in them....but both are questionable.
