Well Gabbie, what a day it was!
The brunch kicked off around 11am, with the full house sign up and 120 guests in good spirits.
Dean Laidley joined us for a chat and was as guarded as ever! He was followed by Donald McDonald, who was great.
Then Matty Larkin turned up! Only joking, it was Rick Aylett and he too had a long chat to the faithful.
Meanwhile, there was spirited bidding for auction items, including Glenn Archer memorabilia otherwise unavailable in Perth.
The original Glenn Archer caricature sold for $2050!
The new NMFC numberplates also caught the attention of many!
Former player Peter Spencer also had a chat, and told of how his time at the club was cut short by the arrival of the Krakouers!
The food was great and we eventually wrapped up the function at around 1.15pm.
One couple travelled 1700kms by car from Port Hedland, with a two-week old baby, for the game, while there was also some fans from Victoria that had flown over.
I delegated local diehard Manuel to control the banner duties, which went off without a hitch seemingly.
We all gathered behind the goals, some at ground level and the rest up above in the top tier.
As the game wore on, we became more vocal and the "North Melbourne" chant followed each Kangas goal.
The final quarter was incredibly tense, and the siren caught us by surprise as it was only a 26-minute quarter.
When it went, there was frenzied hugging and high fives all around. What a win!
This was followed by a rendition of the song, and then the "North Melbourne" chant again.
The players were pumped and wandered down to thank the fans, which was a nice touch.
I dashed around to the rooms, where there was again much jubilation. The crowd burst into applause when Simmo appeared for some media duties. But I then had to head upstairs to MC the post-match function.
Darren Bewick, Darren Crocker and Aaron Edwards followed me up.
The bar was packed, with I would imagine 300-400 people in there.
All three spoke very well just minutes after the siren, Bewick was very good and still pumped, Crocker's dry humour was evident and Edwards said his knee ruled him out, but he was sure to be right for this week's game.
They all signed autographs, before Leigh Brown, Shannon Watt, Brent Harvey and Kasey Green joined us.
Greeny admitted he was worried one of his kicks had cost us the game, Harvey was talking down his Brownlow chances, Watt said he was thrilled to be nearing life membership at the club and Browny said it was great to beat his old side.
Each of them spoke for 3-4 minutes, as I fired off questions at them.
We also auctioned off a can of Glenn Archer beer and one lucky fan picked up a signed team jumper to cap the day.
After more autographs, the players headed for the team bus, but the celebrations continued.
Had a good chat to Kasey Green's dad and mum, lovely people.
Eventually, people started to file out until there was just a handful of fans left, singing the song a tad drunkenly.
The Port Hedland couple were just about last to leave.
Really couldn't have asked for any more from the day and to see so many ecstatic North fans was brilliant!
