They were pretty much done with the deal when that was announced...

If we are to believe the media Scarlo is the highest paid at the club (well deserved to). How do you think Moons would rank??
Surely he would have bumped King with his new contract and would possibly even pip Harls. Dash would also deserve a decent wage considering years served v consistency.

Is Dasher on the veterans list yet? Sorry about being a potential wet-blanket, but upcoming salary cap issues are a growing worry of mine, with so many contracts to discuss...

the big O, would take a chunk of our salary cap, and from the reports of recent seasons and the prolonging of gettin bartel to sign, you would imagine he would take a bit of coin.

Good stuff. Going to be an interesting time at the end of the year when contracts are up for renewal. Who needs to be resigned?

I heard Heath Black on 6pr just recently albeit the end of the conversation.
He said that the players would probably take a pay cut to keep Pavlich as he had done that when he was at St Kilda.
I think the Essendon issue with the salary cap and some players being squeezed out has had an affect on all players. Seeing a side be so dominant and then fall soon after because they couldn't keep them together was a wake up to all players.
Do we stay with a club who looks to be going somewhere or go to the unknown.
After all money is fantastic but it doesn't buy you a premiership in todays AFL.
I remember speaking to Bomber in the early days about drafting and he said "we are drafting good players and good people".
Well done Cam!!
Keep up the good work and i will see you in two weeks.

Maybe we should've offered two or three longer front-loaded contracts to reliable players (Dasher, Scarlett etc) in our rebuilding phase, rather than safely signing 2 year deals? Bah, hindsight.
Tommy Harley's in an interesting position. He turned 29 today, so he'd be eligible for next years' veterans list according to age (King misses by two months), but there's one other requirement -to have been on a club's primary list for at least 10 years. We picked him up from Port at the end of '98, so he will have played with the Cats for the minimum 10 as of September 30 2008. Yet the Sep 30 deadline is only included in paragraph 13.2 (b) of the player's CBA, allowing a player to have turned 30 late in the season of his veteran status. I'm 80% certain Tommy needs to wait until '09, as he'll have only been with us for 9 seasons at the time of nomination for '08. But geeze, the rule seems inconsistent and somewhat vague.

I think he means that Harley would qualify for veteran status age-wise, but because he hasn't been on our primary list for ten years yet, he'll have to wait till 2009 for his veteran wage to be deducted from the salary cap limit.
I think!

That bad, huh? Good translation, Sicko. Umm...hang on, Sarah...veteran's eligibility, from the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
13.2 A Player is eligible for inclusion on an AFL Club’s Veterans List or to be classified
as a veteran, on the Primary List if:
(a) the Player has been at the AFL Club on the Primary List for at least ten (10) years; and
(b) the Player is 30 years of age or older as at 30 September in the relevant AFL
Season,
provided that in the case of Fremantle and Port Adelaide, a Player will be eligible if
he:
• is 30 years of age or older as at 30 September in the relevant AFL Season;
and
• has been on the AFL Club’s Primary List since inception of the AFL Club
into the AFL Competition.
Once an AFL Club to which these exceptions apply has been in the AFL
Competition for 10 years, the exception will cease to apply to that AFL Club and
thereafter the provisions of sub-clauses 13.2(a) and (b) will apply.
And the time to nominate a player:
13.1 (a) An AFL Club may nominate for each AFL Season up to two eligible Players to be transferred from its Primary List to the Veterans List and/or any number of eligible Players to be classified as a veteran on its Primary List, provided the transfer or classification occurs no later than two weeks after the Pre-Season Draft prior to the relevant AFL Season.
Harley turns 30 this day next year, so he meets the requirements of paragraph (b).
BUT, consider paragraph 13.2 (a). Harley's first year on our list was 1999. 2008 is his tenth season for Geelong. You can turn 30 late in the season and still be considered a veteran, yet you cannot become a veteran in your tenth year at a club, only in the eleventh. That is how I interpret "at least", when the nomination is made prior to the relevant season (13.1(a))
We won't be getting any salary cap relief from Tom Harley next year.
He and Paul Licuria are probably the only players in this position, as they were traded at the end of '98 after spending a couple of years at other clubs. No, there are no brownie points for being Captain.

Great to see Moondogs staying with the club. Were any of us really worried he'd leave?
Long live the mighty Moondogs. :)

I think there was more chance of me enjoying Dolly Parton music then Mooney leaving the club. He is the heart and soul of Geelong and no way would he leave. the same goes for Gablett, Scarlet, Ling, etc etc - some players you know just won't leave unless there is something seriously long.
