View Full Version : Calm before the storm?
Noticed in terms of media etc, there has not been a lot said in relation to Carlton's flogging.
Even on "the couch" tonight, not one mention of Carlton, even when they were talking about coaches (Connoly, Laidley).
I have a feeling something is about to happen any day now (not necessarily Pagan centric).
Weird feeling.
just expecting the floggings now, 3-4 weeks in a row, its a joke we are in my opinion the worst team in the AFL and losing to melbourne proved it, I think right now Richmond would beat us, but hey just me guys

We've been down for so long now, the media probably don't even bother now.

Actually we're lucky we're not playing the Tigers. For theoretically they could beat us, but they wont. I know no team wants to tank but Terry would love for us to win to confirm the number 1 pick. Even we couldn't play that badly to lose to unloseable?

We lost to Melbourne.....I think if we played Richmond now, they would start favorites.

It's not even that we deserve the floggings, but there were a couple of incidents last weekend against the Swans where our young blokes failed.
Gibbs and Kirk went at a 50/50 ball. Gibbs should have made some sort of body contact, instead Kirk beat him to the ball, took the mark, didn't break stride and kicked a goal.
Similar thing happened with Walker - failed to make any physical impression in a contest and was left hanging his head.
We need to toughen up and be more physical in contests. I know Gibbs is young, but he needs to put himself on the line and show more desperation - after all, he is in the leadership group!
Still something doesn't seem right. Fair enough I'm commuting in Canberra so I don't have as much AFL in my face during the working week, but looking through The Age and HUN online another day with nothing? Not one mention of the Blues?
It's really freaking me out that the media in the past would jump on us every opp and now silence. Mark my words something will be happening soon.

What could the press say that hasn't been said a million times before? Even the garbage bins they source from have bottoms.
If Smorgon was still prez, the wolves would be howling.
Funny how a billionaire seems to scare the pack.

They had a bit of a go at us on Footy Confidential last night. I didn't see the whole show (Caro and Hutchy give me the irrits) but Gary Lyon showed a couple of incidents where our backline didn't get goal side and they chatted briefly about how our team don't do the basics, or something along those lines.
I guess the whole media haven't given up on us yet. :o

There's little interest in us now for good reason - we are out of the finals race and our performances are ordinary.
There will be more focus on us later in the year as we get closer to R22 and pagan's sacking, and there will also be talk about tanking for priority picks and of course the possible Fevola trade.
there's far more exciting things happening in the AFL besides our plight

Not so sure about a Billionaire scaring the media, considering all of the good work he has done since he has been at the club. There's not too much negative press that the media could write about off-field goings on, and what we are delivering on-field has been the same for years now - hardly any earth shattering stuff there.
nothing significent is going to happen until seasons end, we have moved on from our amateurish ways.
I suspect that the relative lack of media focus on the Carlton situation stems from the sheer hopelessness and inevitability of it all. The media know Pagan's gone, the supporters know Pagan's gone, the players would know he's gone, and, given his uncharacteristic words to the media last week, it sure sounds like the man himself is acutely aware that the end is nigh. The time for media pressure upon Pagan's tenure has passed.
It's all just a matter of 'when', not 'if', and there's only so many articles that can be written while the club is, to the public eye, merely going through the motions, circling in what is effectively a holding pattern. One suspects all the key players in events to come are currently tied up with other duties. To blatantly mix metaphors, this is most definitely the calm before the storm, while under the surface, the legs are no doubt paddling madly.

I agree. I just wish that Pratt would bring out the screen and put Pagan out of his misery. It is sad to see a proud man like Pagan playing the dead man walking.
If he didn't have a crap load of money on the line, he would of taken the same road as Daniher. But money makes us all weak, and willing to accept total humiliation.
