View Full Version : Carlton is losing on purpose
HI everyone
I am afraid that Carlton is losing on purpose...this is not Carlton that we all know of..We are losing on purpose.....I am sure of it...........and we will not win another game for the rest of the year.If we can beat Collingwood or Essendon this year that will be enough for me....at least some sort of satisfaction this year..........the year of HELL.

No we're not.
We just aren't up to scratch yet, but we're getting there.
I refuse to believe that any team goes out to deliberately lose a match. I cannot accept that we are running out onto the ground with the aim to lose.

I highly doubt we are losing on purpose. Pagan knows his job is on the line so he can't afford to fail. This is highlighted by the fact that we are at times playing injured players and bringing back individuals who have no part in our future.
A good example of a team that is tanking is Melbourne.

I respect your opinion mate but to me personally,Pagan kept failing deeper and deeper every game since he came in Carlton. He will be sacked in no time. Can`t wait for that one.I am sick of him.

If there is one person on this planet that can afford to fail, it's 700K payout Pagan.
Realistically if kept next year he wouldn't expect an extension so what's he trying to save?

If anyone thinks a professional coach or any professional players go out in order to deliberately lose then you've officially completely lost the plot. Players and coaching staff concentrate on one thing: WINNING.
Simple.

Well, to me mate there is no chance that team who wants to win get flogged by 100,70 or 60 pts.No way.If we couldn`t win against Melbourne that says it all!

So every team who gets beaten by over say, 10 goals, doesn't want to win? Port beat West Coast by 90 odd points last weekend, did West Coast not want to win? Port are the same team we smashed about 6 weeks ago also.

yeah but we get flogged very often.....look I wish I am not right but to me we will not win another game this year.........we are not better than last year or year before....you have to agree with that!

We get flogged because we simply aren't good enough yet. We lack the experienced core that so many other teams have. The combination of poor drafting and our draft penalties have ripped the heart out of this club and until quite a few more players step up and mature we're going to struggle.
So far this year we're already ahead of the past 2 years so that is a bit encouraging and i hope we can snatch a couple more wins before the year is out.
What a truly uninformed, riduculous comment.
you called me uninformed.....ok.I will take it...how would you explain this years results???Poor...same as last year, and year before and year before.........true???

Simple as that. Look at the quality other teams have on the field, look at the quality we have at the moment. Our future quality players are a fair way from being able to dominate matches.
As soon as you can prove that we're losing on purpose then i'd like to see it.

I agree with your point HBF but half those blokes weren't even available against us and we STILL lost! Also, we're the ONLY mob that manages to make that one-paced past it Bizzell look any good! Very frustrating year this now appears destined to be.

Perhaps if Carlton had've taken their opportunities (like kicking accurately) it might very well have been a different story against Melbourne. We buthchered that many shots at goal at Melbourne, it was bordering on the comical. Simpson, Waite and Walker all missed goals that they should've gobbled up, whereas Melbourne were very accurate early, and we were always chasing them.

This comment proves that you don't have any idea what carlton needs. How you can be happy with one more meaningless win instead of getting kruzer is just rubbish. One more win against Ess or coll will feel good for a week and then it's over. Kruzer will feel good for 10 to 15 years.
Some people who think they are carlton fans don't have any idea what the club needs to do to go forward.
I'm sure you would give up a few of our ten wins in 2004 for Franklin. Winning more games this year will stuff us up again like 2004. 10 wins in 2004 felt pretty good, but all it did was set us back even further.

How many more years at the bottom do we need before we can start feeling good again? Why do we start well most weeks and then give up? Because we're so used to losing. But no let's keep on losing forever and get more Luke Livingstons, Kennedys, Russells. How good would Franklin look in our team- probably no better than Kennedy because he wouldn't have any good players to help him. And how many members will sign up if we lose our last 11 games straight? How many players will want to leave (Rumour- murphy???) and how many players from other clubs will refuse to come? Of course that won't happen because we'll have a new messiah who's going to magically improve everything all by himself- just like marc murphy and bryce gibbs!

I initially thought the club decided after the two beltings that the finals were a no go, and so they decided to play kids. But then they dropped Russell and Grigg last weekend.

why do we get a jump on teams if we cant finish them off, its frustrating and pisses me off as a member.
four goals up on the swans in the first 10 minutes, what eventuates a thrahing of 11 goals.
The dockers we were doing reasonably well early on, and again a thrashing.
we got the first two majors against the hawks in like the space of a minute, thanks to waite and fevola, then we died in the a...
waite should have fed the ball off to eddie betts in the last term against melbourne instead of having a shot.

The more i see it,
with our 'sieve' backline and no ruckmen,
we pretty much have to kick 23 goals to win a game,
can't afford points,
as we have more goals kicked against us from kick outs than anyone
and we are not capable of that......not even close.
While not officially 'tanking' we certainly leave the door open for opposition teams.
Make of it what you will.

if u look at the hawks team, u will see a big difference,
hodge is 23, has played over 100 games and 5 seasons.
mark williams is 24 and played over 70 games, also in his 5th season
sam mitchell is 25 played over 100 games also 5th season
croad is 27, over 150 games, playing his 8th season
Brent guerra is 25, his third club and over 6th seasons
Boyle is 23, 4th season, okay hasnt had alot of game time, is still mature age.
joel smith is a seasoned veteran, over 30 and over 150 games still going strong
crawfs and vandeberg both over 30 and still going strong.
good brand of experience and leadership.
The blues on the other hand are alot younger in terms of games and experience
give them time, another season they should be ready

We don't need to tank. We lose on merit. If you can't defend the goals that you kick then you lose. No rocket science to work that out.

why the hell would we want franklin when we have fevola and now that fisher is playing more up forward...franklin will never be as good as fevola and we are still to see more of fevola in the next couple of years.....sure franklin can be a good player at times but not week in week out like fev did for like 3 years straight...and as for another draft pick like kruzer y would we want that??? we hav finished last what like 3 times in 5 years now and we have had our fair share of good draft picks. they just need to develop more in the years to com. What really frustrates me is that we kept Pagan and we kept losing.......We are going nowhere..I wish I am wrong...

Well, he's actually 199cm and I have seen him play quite a few times, both for the Knights and for Vic Metro. This is what Weaver wrote about him, who has been watching the kids for as long as i've been on BF, and probably a bit longer.
1. Matt Kreuzer (Ruck / Fwd)
Capable in the ruck, but superb at ground level. Lays tackles, spoils and bumps like no other ruckman. Good skills, clean hands below his knees, superb balance. Great recovery and second efforts. Can go forward and pinch a goal or two. Very mobile. His ability to get from contest to contest and read the play are elite for a ruckman. Has a real competitive streak too which again a lot of the tall ex-basketballers struggle with.

who cares if were tanking..id rather kruzer and another top 4 pick, than another cheesy win that would get us nowhere, get abit of depth in the side were building, guys like kennedy and russel will come on in a few yrs there still only young and when all these top round picks that we have have played a few yrs and bulk up no one will beat us..these hawthorns and geelongs will be no comp for us...stop being a bunch of sooks and look to the future...and let the afl change the draft to the lotterey system..screw em and take what we can while weve got the chance
two yrs watch out..blues will be a force

Will we be wanting to tank again for the next big thing because he's no more likely to magically turn things around than Murphy last year & gibbs this year. And BTW every player in the draft has a profile that reads like that and sounds like they're going to be a superstar. At under 18 level they're all stars but not all will do that at AFL level.

It would be dumb for Carlton to lose on purpose least now anyway, I think somehow you'll manage to win that one game, but if it gets to round 20 and you still haven't one a game I think the players themselves might just start under performing! I mean pick 1 and 19 is a nice bonus.
