View Full Version : If we are tanking is there any point in going to watch the boys play?
i wouldn't have thought so, but i'll stick it out until the end of the year.
We'll watch,
For some it'll be the joy they experience to see us lose and get the priority pick. For some others to see us lose means that one step closer to a new coach. For the rest it'll be for the slight glimmer of hope that we may win.
But for all of us, just to see the boys and see how the kids are developing with each game.

Interesting the advertisement at the top of this page says "Quit? In my book it's a four letter word".
If you believe we have thrown in the towel then no you wouldn't waste time or money on watching the team. Yet if we are, who's doing the tanking?
Surely it has to be the coach and the selection committee? Most AFL players, particularly young ones, can barely string a clever or original thought together. They have enough trouble getting a game, then getting the ball, then doing something constructive with it without the added burden of laying down. How does a player tank FFS?
It could be said that our shocking turnover rate is a sign of players trying to lose but lacking the skills to do it subtlety. Hardly. I think it would come out through a kids family or friends, just too hard to keep a lid on such an evil conspiracy with so many participants. Which leaves team selection and coaching moves, a much easier way of losing matches under the premise of "trying something new".
I for one will never believe it. Maybe if millions of dollars were at stake as in the cricket fiasco but that would presume Carlton go in as favourites at some stage.
Mmm................favourites.....................I remember that.

Would you stop the tanking talk. There is no way known that they are tanking. The truth is they just are not good enough. To say that they are tanking assumes they are good enough to beat the teams they are playing. They are doing the best with the list that they have. What they should be doing is seeing if they can find a couple of leaders in the team before the year is out. To do that they have to play at 100%. Please stop this ridiculous talk of tanking.
Simpson seems to be progressing as a leader.

I am building up to the Gabba game this week, even making a weekend out of it. I would hate to think we would throw the game but then even a win would be bittersweet in terms of our development. If winning this week would ensure we came home strong like the Hawks did last year and win 7 or 8, I would take it in an instant. If it meant the PP shackles were off and we could set out to damage the Pies ladder position, then bring it on. It is important that the guys finish the year full of confidence and looking forward to something.

Yes, that would be sweet costing them a top four spot. And don't forget, we're always a chance against Essendon, we might knock them out of finals contention too.

It is always good to see how the players are going if you can get there. We are supporters afterall? Those who love to bag their own will have a field day. Just remember those you are bagging have mates...who funnily enough also play for Carlton:D.
Tanking is a very nebulous term anyway. How can you tell a bunch of kids and those playing for their future not to try;) Unless Pagan has decided to give up and a golden handshake has already been arranged, then what's in it for him:D

No self respecting sporting club/team would go out there and deliberately throw a game. The kids need to finish the season on a high, and a couple of wins in the last 7 weeks would do that.

I'm planning on going to the St.Kilda match next week. And whilst I'm not expecting to win, I go to the game fully supporting my team to win and at the very least except to be a spirited performance and continued signs of improvement from our young players.

I just want to see a good performance, I don't think we can beat Brisbane up there, and against a bash and crash ruckman like Charman, I hope Ackland plays, and Kennedy and Carlos don't get battered from pillar to post in the ruck, if someone is going to get battered around, please let it be Cain, nothing against Cain, but, he's a matured body player, and his primary position, is a ruckman

I go to the game hoping to win. The whole point of supporting a football club, for me, is to sing that Navy Blue song.
