View Full Version : Something has to happen!

Something has to happen at this club of mine for it is sinking into the mire rapidly.

This club – players, officials, the board, everyone – owes us the members/supporters more than what they are currently giving us. As a dissatisfied, long-time member I believe I have earned the right for explanations as have the other 35,000+ who have tipped in to make this a record membership. As too, the big corporate backers who have tipped in additional millions to set this club back on the right path financially.

Its about time the football department in particular pulled their collective heads out of the sand and understood that it’s more than just themselves that they are playing for. Its about time all of them understood that we pay them – WE DO – whether they are a player, a coach, an assistant coach, a recruiting manager, a general manager or a CEO.

Its about time all of them realised that they can come and go from this club, but as supporters we can’t and right at this moment we are bleeding and hurting as much as we have over the past 3 years.

I hope this club of mine understands what the prospect of a 3rd wooden spoon would do to this place and its supporters. Talk about draft picks all you like, talk about tanking all you like, but 3 spoons in a row?

I can’t believe that a 10+ goal thumping has almost become acceptable in terms of “player development” over the past 3 seasons.

I’m at a complete loss to explain how our draft picks over the preceding 3 seasons seem to be miles behind in terms of development compared to 2-3 other clubs.

I find it a disgrace that the senior coach and the bullants coach do not communicate and discuss team selection or player development and have not done so in over 12 months and the club has done nothing to resolve this pathetic impasse between 2 supposed adults.

I am at a loss to explain team selection, team tactics and match ups that supporters see as futile and young players seem to have no idea how to implement, yet are persisted with over and over again.

Something has to happen and quickly. If that means sacking the coach and the match committee, then do it. But do it now.

From my point of view another 7 weeks of this utter garbage holds in contempt the proud history of this club.

Good point re: memberships too. This sort of contempt could result in a record low next year - we have every right to feel aggrieved.

Yep thats all sweet, but what can the players do? You can't go down the shop and buy more experience of a harder body. Also, care to explain how a team can win a game of AFL footy with not 1 ruckman and not 1 key defender?

You've definately got a point though about the Pagan - Mitchell situation, can't believe its still at the same point as it was at the start of the season.
Just un-fukn-believable . One of them has to go at season's end, actually one of them should be gone already if they can't sort it out like adults, which they clearly can't.

We should be conducting a total review of players, recruiting etc now. Not waiting for season's end. Our player/recruit development is abysmal and our recruiting over the past 3 seasons in the draft has been haphazard - apart from Murphy, Walker and Gibbs who were "no-brainers" when it came to the draft. And if you are looking for examples - pick 17 (our second pick after Gibbs) Hampson, a "project ruckman" with limited football exposure. And Raso from 3 years ago (supposedly a bottom-aged player who was "sure to go top 10" the following year according to Hughes)

As for our ruck stocks - that is a joke. My suggestion would have been to have done everything possible to talk to French and De Luca (before they retired) and find out the real reasons why Bryan wanted to leave. We were always going to be under the pump here, even before we signed Akland. Or were we really expecting Aisake, Hampson and Jacobs to jump in straight away. Smacks of poor player management by the club - something we are paying dearly for now

things are happening, behind the scenes, it's just the club does not deal with everything through the media like it has previously.

1) appointment of recruiting staff to assist wayne hughes and his current staff
2) appointment of 2 development coaches- we currently have 0
3) improvement of training facilities & footy dept facilities
4) introduction of a football academy
5) appointment of a club dietician

these will all go part of the way to assisting onfield performances and the fact we are young and will get better with time.

its clear to see our players need to build their strength and running capacity- these come from hard work in the pre-season.

Pretty hard to argue with any of that to be honest. One thing I will say though. Pratt, Swann and Icke are now putting into place some more resources into the footy department, which will help out enormously. One or two development coaches will be an absolute god send, if Collingwood is anything to go by.

Also, it has been rumoured that Carlton will field it's own reserves team next year, which will i'm sure help the development of the kids, and I suspect both Mitchell and Pagan will be gome at years end - thus meaning the impasse is no longer.

We are coming from a long long way back, so you would hope to see some improvement from early next year. We've got some terrific kids, and I really think that they could blossom next year.

this will shed some light on why we are struggling- not the only reason but 1 of the reasons.

greg swann- Carlton chief executive Greg Swann was at the helm at Collingwood when it initiated its football academy for first to third-year players, which has been credited with the quick maturation of players including Irishman Martin Clarke, Tyson Goldsack, Scott Pendlebury, Harry O'Brien and Dale Thomas.

Swann said yesterday the Blues had no specific development coaches this year but would expand their football department next year.

It sheds some light but stuff like players hating the coach have been around for at least 2 years yet nothing is being done.

We the members are the shareholders of this club yet how much info do we get ?
The apparent total lack of action by the club to resolve the Pagan / Mitchell impasse is farcical.

The Blues accepting 60 point losses is not the club i grew up with just think back to the start of the 78 season and what happened after 7 rds.

interested to know which players 'hate' the coach.

60 point losses are hard to take and very frustrating, but the reality is that we are not that good ATM. we play well in patches but are very inconsistent.

even the games we have won this season we have not played 4 1/4 of good football.

the club has to be smart and not have all their dealings done via the media like we have previously. when announcements are ready to be made they will be made.
