Why isn't this guy your Captain. He's absolutely inspirational.

He's one of my favourite players in the league, tough as nails and great all over the park and I've seen him light a fuse and change a game.

Genuinely curious as to why he's never been considered for the top spot.

Because he is sh-- and shouldn't even be getting a game.

He was once a star player but those days are over

That's actually a real good suggestion. I never thought about it really. He's a great player and I think he only played 3 quarters for us on sunday, yet he was one of our bests. He's good forward and back, could be in the captaincy pool for next year. Good concideration.

He's great. For a skinny fella he gives his all, and his all is better than many of our kids.

Can't help but feel sorry for Lappo after the contract dispute he had with the club that became public....

He has been a great servant for us since coming over from Moorabble. He is more of an introvert and doesn't come across as captain material in my opinion, he even said in an interview on CFC that he doesn't give the young guys any advice unless they ask for it... I think he may have one more year left in him.

Accept it, as good as he's been, he's past his prime. Whilst he still plays a good match or quarter here and there, he goes missing and lacks consistency. I expect this to be his last season, if not, 2008. And plus, he just doesn't seem to be captaincy material.

I'm sure your taking the piss. he used to be great, still has some moments but does not set a good enough example to be captain.

I'm pretty sure it was the St.kilda game where we had a quick break at cruicial time in the match. The ball made it into our wide-open forward line where Lappin ran onto the loose ball and all he had to to do was knock it into the path of an unmarked Carlton player streaming towards goal... but no, Lappin instead grabbed his head and fell the ground, faking for a high tackle (he was not touched).... whats worse he did it while holding onto the ball... Opposision player wandered in, holds Lappin and... tweeeep Holding the ball. If thats the type of example our senior leaders supply, I'd rather just go with youngsters before they pick up their lazy habits. Most people are too busy discecting Fevolas play to notice some of Lappins brain-farts, but that effort sums up why he isn't Captain.

He's 31 - there is no way known Matty Lappin will be named captain. I'd personally be surprised if he played on next year.

why would you be surprised, if he is doing well and enjoying his football why not ?

He's not captain because we have better leaders than him and has shown little leadership this year. In fact, sometimes he'd look disinterested.

I always thought he was too old for the job

No one's ever "too old". Was Bradley too old when we gave him the captaincy? Was Ratten, McKay and Kouta for that matter?

Yea there is no way he should be captain. Let's just make Murphy captain-that would keep him at the club!!

Because of his lack of consistency. His best is still very good - not doubting that, but he has games where he goes completely missing, which tells me that he's past it. He has only broken the 20 possession mark once in 15 games. Has spent a lot of time up forward, but way down on previous output. He's averaging 10 possessions and a goal over the last month - numbers which are unacceptable from a senior player.

Make no mistake, I'm a fan of Lappin, but at 31, it's time he retired. We've got to clear people of our list, and he's one that I feel will be cut (retire), because his form has dropped off, and at this stage of his career, he clearly isn't part of the future.

Your the idiot. The more we play guys like Lance and Matty the further we will fall. Don't get me wrong, Lappin was my fav player, but it's time to let go.

You can call me an idiot but the truth is that I only say the facts. I might be tough of lappin, but that's life.

According to most people on this board all our young kids will be stars. You are all dreamers. Maybe the thing that is setting the club back is that we don't make the tough calls.

It's time to say goodbye to Matty and Lance and stop living in the past.

He gives his all when the ball is in his area. Has not got a defensive bone it his scrawney body.
Captain? What a joke, good servant over a number of years but give me Simpson & Waite anyday.

I love the blues just as much as anyone and they have been everything to me for 20 years. I'm 23 and I saw some great times in the 90's and early 00's and I have had enough. We need to get tough, we over rate our players too much and it's time we start getting tough and seeing what this club is. I am sick of reading on this board how every kid will be a gun. Enough is enough. Gibbs, Murph, Walker, Waite, Simpson are the only young starsl, the rest of our list is very poor. I might of missed one or two players but our side is poor. The more supporters continue to blow up the potential of kids the more we are dreaming.

His form has really dropped away since the start of the 2006 season, and aside from a couple of cameos this year, he has been very disappointing indeed. A great servant of the game, and the club, however, come the end of this year, it will be time for Skinny to hang up the boots.

If you want to assess where Matty Lappin is at in his playing career, you need look no further than another half forward, Shannon Grant. Grant is only a year younger than Lappin yet has been one of the keys to the Kangaroos unexpected rise up the ladder. Lappin's output this year & last year doesn't even come close to what Shannon Grant is achieving at the moment.

Our young players are crying out for some leadership from the handful of experienced players on our list. Unfortunately Matty Lappin is not able to provide the kind of leadership that Shannon Grant & 'Boomer' Harvey are providing to the younger players at Arden St.

Is now used as an impact player.

And he was a vice captain last year and stood in as captain in one of the pre-season games.

Regardless, his output is much lower than what you'd want. 10 possessions and a goal over four weeks from an impact player playing in an attacking role is not up to scratch. I love the guy and he has been a great servant of the footy club, but careers come to an end and his form quite clearly shows that his is coming to an end. Whether he goes on for another year, maybe, but that will certainly be his last. However, if he does go on, I would not be surprised if he finishes his career playing in the seconds - something I do not want to see.
