View Full Version : Should we attempt to Lure Buckley as an assistant?
Buckley you would suspect could be a good chance of retiring.
Knowing his view that he needs to get away from Collingwood or even football to get a broader view of coaching, should we try to lure him to be an assistant coach?
Imagine having Voss being assisted by Buckley and Ratts, Braddles.
Wonder what his relationship with Swann was like.
Thoughts?

Yeah nah.:o
He'll never leave The Lexus Magpies.
Eddie will see to that.

Eddie will certainly have him on the payroll - probably earning more dollars than if he was playing...lol

Swann left....
Eddie is not the all mighty power he thinks he is!
And as Eddie is no longer Channel 9 boss, he can't go ahead and offer Bucks a big channel 9 contract.
I wonder if Buckley is getting familiar with cardboard at the moment ;)
rather get a coach then an assistant right now,
he will 100% stay at collingwood, eddy will have him there for life

If Pagan leaves, it would be too risky.
I don't like the sound of having a coaching panel of Ratts, Braddles, Voss, Buckley and someone like Libba.
They may not be ready yet to be coaches. I know Libba, Ratts have had experience as coaches, but we need to be careful. Having coaches that don't know what they are doing could be just as bad as having a coach that doesn't have the full respect of the playing group.

How many games has Buckley played this year?? ZERO.
What has he been doing... helping out the coach, in the coaches box game day.. in the rooms at half time, after the game talking to the boys. The other times he's been injured the last few years same story.
So you don't think he's picked up anything from Malthouse etc?
He's already a semi assistant at a club that has taken their playing group beyond expectations.

I wouldn't underestimate the friendship between Eddie and Nathan. Nathan has even said that he might travel overseas for a year or two to get an idea on what happens in different sports, but then he would go back to the 'pies.

He has been helping out the coach, but he would still have a lot to learn. He is new to that caper, as is Voss.
Too risky IMO.

I doubt Buckley would even leave Collingwood. But if he did, and Voss wasn't out coach/assistant coach - then yes, i would throw everything at trying to sort out a deal.
Voss and Buckley at one club = too much inexperience in coaching.

I am not even entertaining the idea Bucks will leave the pies.
It will never happen in my opinion..
If you missed 'Footy Classified' then you missed Bucks performing as Mick's puppet!
We also know Eddie & Bucks' bond.
Buckley will be Mick Malthouse's predeccesor when Mick has had enough.

Did you also miss the part where Bucks was asked whether he would stay on at the Pies and he said "Going to a club other than the one you played for seems to be part of the process (of becoming a coach)"
I.e. He would be quite keen for his own development as an assistant coach to go to another club.
coaching under the inexperienced Voss probably not what he is thinking though.
If Mckenna came across it may be a different story.
