He apparantly got 12 months for introducing the public to Stephanie McIntosh "wonderful" singing voice, and three for tax fraud. Or maybe 15 months for tax fraud. Who knows

The punishment was definately amplified due to his involvement with McIntosh's singing career!
Seriously though, I thought it was pretty harsh considering a guy (equally high profile) like Matthew Newton bashed his chick and got off scott free. People who get drunk, drive then accidentally kill someone don't even get 30 months!
Lesson. Don't cheat the government!

true, but two wrongs don't make a right.
why are people comparing this to matthew newton?
wheatley's crime was 0well planned and pre meditated... that's why he got 15 months...
while you shouldn't hit your girlfriend, that is something you don't plan, happens on the spur of the moment...

Agreed, but some consistancy would be nice.
For example, a vandal's goes spray painting trains and stations that costs the govt $300,000 to clean up. He gets a slap on the wrist and a good behaviour bond.
The same govt doesn't get its $300K in tax and you're in jail 15months.
Same 300K gone. At least in Weatley's case, he pays the $$ back.
A bloke like Glen Weatley, maybe he deserves to be behind bars for 15 months, maybe he doesn't. But if he does, at least throw the graffiti vandals in there too. Those are the types that really DO deserve it, but get away.

There is no PR in jailing a vandal. Besides, he obviously not connected with the right people.

Serve him right. He's ripping off the taxpayer not the government.
Its a pity they didnt lock up JF for failing to end his singing career rather than bury us in endless "last concerts"

So..i hope this sets a precedent for white collar crime in this country. Had this been a few years back i am for sure he would have escaped Jail time.
I would like too see many more white collar crims locked up for longer.

Because Matther Newtons crime is infinite times worse and he gets off scot free, and the other one goes to jail.
FFS people have killed people and gotten off for whatever pathetic reason their lawyer can make up.
Our justice system is an absolute joke

Do you know the full story? Do you know about his condition? Do you know if Miss Goody Goody pants (oh boy she is FAR from being a miss goody goody) Brooke didn't push him over the edge?
Or are you passing judgments on what the local media has to say? You know credible news agency like TT, ACA and The hun.
I can't believe the amount of fwits who have lynched Berts son and have painted him to be the biggest, most pyscho criminal that the australian courts have had.
I can see what his lawyer was getting at when he made those comments about it being trivial. Look at the way Matthew Newtown name has been slaunded and his character assassinated on BigFooty.
Fkn Herald Sun readers - dumb *****.

Hardly. I am not sticking up for him - just am disgusted at the amount of knobs on here who find it their god given right to pass judgement on people when all they have is what some tabloid news ltd paper tells them. And from the luxury of doing it without their real name too - gutless!
It's a very australian thing to do and it annoys me no end. We have become Americans in no time.

I think 'Newt' was regarded as a tosser around these parts before he flogged his missus. So, whatever was reported in the HUN, TT or ACA is irrelevant, because most around here find those news sources to be laughing stocks anyway.
