From the Age, probably in tomorrow's Worst :

Freo could appoint two coaches

Digby Beacham and Gareth Parker, Perth | July 19, 2007

FREMANTLE is giving consideration to the idea of appointing two senior coaches to replace Chris Connolly as the club rethinks the structure of its football department in the wake of Connolly's resignation.
The idea involves the creation of a partnership between a match-day coach and a football director or manager of equal standing who would share in the tactical preparations but also knit football-related administrative issues such as list management into the pair's responsibilities, an arrangement adopted by a number of the biggest European soccer teams.
For now, the club will press on with one senior coach — Mark Harvey is expected to accept the caretaker's role today — and before deciding upon a new-look football department may have to face the prospect of Peter Bell retiring.
Harvey, not wanting to be seen to have blood on his hands following his appointment as a highly-paid assistant late in 2005, opted against immediately embracing the senior role when it was offered to him by Connolly on Monday night."

Apart from hating Digby's puny little guts, I reckon this idea has merit. The spotlight couldn't be put on one individual, it would be on two. Then the grubby little Perth media couldn't just isolate one bloke and go Hammer and Tongs at him.
What do you reckon ???

Who cares what the grubby Perth media have to say. Why would Pagan/Sheedy/Laidley agree to be a half coach?

I was more thinking Harvey & the Reverend. And you would get rid of one or two of the assistants that haven't really been worth the money paid for them. And by the way I care, that's what a discussion thread is for. People are getting very snipey on this Board lately, I wonder why ???

Seems like everyone in Freo wants to pass the buck. Imagine the bloody interviews Joe: "Look, thats Fred department". Fred: "look, i don't know what Joey is telling you, but thats his department".

Sheedy and Harvey. :D

No im happy with just one coach, the idea of two guys taking the reigns sounds a little stupid to me. All it saying is that we couldnt find one guy good enough to do it so we hope two together might get it done.

yah i agree ,unfortunately that would be a very "freo" way to do things though, could you imagine it structure for failure so nobody is there to take blame at the end of the day

There's nothing wrong with the 'Freo' way. If you look back over the past 13 years, you'll discover that Freo have in fact been way ahead of their time and trendsetters on a regular basis. A lot of clubs now play in the Neesham style. The rotation on the bench - a very CC tactic, one that was heavily criticised initially. If they find the right people, it could be a very good idea. Coaching is a very stressful and time consuming job which has an enormous number of facets. Why couldn't two people who's skills and personality compliment each other work well? I can't see it happening in 2008 but don't be surprised to see it before too long, either at Freo or elsewhere.

FFS, has that ever worked in any sport?
I think Liverpool tried it a few years back but it turned out it was a dud idea.
