View Full Version : Peter German to coach this week
Just heard on 3aw, not sure why Mark Harvey hasnt accepted the offer, but Gerard Healy reckons this is true.
Dont know much about German myself, cant see Harvey being in the mix for next year if he doesnt coach us this year.

Surely this is not right?
Harvey may as well go sell cars if he isnt coaching this weekend. Unless he is doing it out of principle:confused::confused: but even then CC walked ( as far as I am aware) and there is no principle to get involved
This is the best audition any assistant can get and Harvey should grab it running

Well Harvey will never coach an AFL team if this is the case.

Surely 3AW are wrong.
Harvey should either be our senior coach this week or on a flight back to Melbourne. I don't want him in the box if he has knocked back the job.
Why the f*ck did he come over from Melbourne if he isn't going to take his opportunity?
If this is true, then...
GET NICKED HARVEY.
You clearly aren't interested in coaching the Fremantle FC. You might as well resign from your Assistant role now so that you can buddy up to the Essendon board before they decide to sack Sheedy.
Close the door on your way out, Harvs.

led to believe Club would anounce it(Harvey to do it) in adelaide away from the feeding frenzy in perth.
Now if harvey has declined( gun shy- knows the hurdles he has to face and doesn't want it????) then good luck to german has coached in his own right. and wouldn't it be sweet if german pulls off of 3-4 wins before seasons end and goes on to win the job!!
Can someone give us a bit of a profile on German? I forget which WAFL club he was coaching, but they were doing very well, weren't they? Has he got the necessary experience for the senior job?
I think Chris Bond should be considered our #1 option now.

German was coaching Peel, and doing what everyone does at Peel... not much sadly.
Then he moved to Subi and coached them to 2 premierships, 1 r/u and a PF in his 4 years there...
Hard-arsed player for North Melbourne in the 80s also.

Am I reading into this to much????
I was actually tipped off during the week that Blighty was in town and "discussing" whats happening at Freo at the mo so maybe there's something in his visit :D

OK, so I've read that Harvey has (as expected) agreed to take the reigns for the remainder of the year, but what I don't understand is the vitriol towards him if he hadn't? I'm sure when he came over most were concerned that he was going to whiteant CC for the top job - but maybe, just maybe he only wants to be an assistant? Maybe he is a damn fine assistant and knows his limitations and is happy to leave it at that? And if that's the case, why force him into something more? For every senior coach there are 4 assistants (more?), and most of them don't go all the way - and neither should they have to / want to / need to. Not all of us are CEO's or Managing directors are we???
Sorry Vintage, maybe that was a bit over the top. It just sickens me to think that someone wouldn't want a chance to coach Freo, given the chance. Give me the job, I guarantee that I have the passion required!
We are in a bad spot at the moment, and to think that our most senior assistant coach would refuse to take the caretaker position was too much. As it turns out, the story is bullsh*t, so it's OK. Deep breath...
But I wonder if Harvey actually wants the job for next year, for the reasons you outlined?

If your an assistant you can be out of the spot light, yet still make a very good living, almost immune to critism. Harvey gets paid more as an assistant than Laidley does as senior coach.
And yes, Harvs has been in there white anting out CC for as long as hes been there.

Done a hammy out for 3 weeks
So Parker will be back in time for the big testimonial game against Melbourne in Round 21.
Surely it will be the end for Parker, McManus and Cook. They should get a send off game. It's only Melbourne, after all - we can beat them even with all the old timers in the team.:p
