Ok, I don't want to start any premature "coach-iculation" but it was brought to my attention during the week that he was in town and discussions were in place to secure him as the new coach and the sources were pretty reliable
Dang, could it be the second coming :o
I would personally love Blighty as the main man :D

I would prefer Sumich....... and Sumich is way way way way down on my list.
All you have to do is listen to his special comments, the guy is probably closer to a natural death than round 1 2008.

Blightys main game plan is killing teams at staoppages and leg speed , he would reject the job and probably laugh in the face of the person who asks him !!!

Ok..
So here's as it stands: -
Sumich - OUT
Blight - OUT
Want the top job Mr "I've followed the game" cause we have some issues at the moment in case you haven't noticed.
You do appear to be an expert so why don't you put your name forward as the new coach.....or are you just happy firing shots behind your anonymity!!!!!
I wouldn't hesitate to give Blight the job, if he wants it and he doesn't demand too much money. He is a premiership coach. A smart guy.
At the moment I would be happy to see one of Harvey, Bond or Blight get the job. No to Laidley, Daniher, Pagan, and especially SUMICH
Getting Blight would be a great coup if we could make it happen.:thumbsu:

Blight would be an excellent coach if he is committed.
His lack of commitment at St Kilda was what brought about his downfall there. As has been previously pointed out. Regularly missing training sessions, missing important club events and functions, preferring to play golf instead..........

Surely they'd have to be looking at coaches with experience. No more rookies. That, of course, qualifies Laidley. But Laidley doesn't have the title "Premiership Coach", and I would hope that is the first of the criteria they will be looking for.
Matthews, Sheedy, Blight - if any of them were interested, I would be grabbing with both hands. Matthews and Sheedy before Blight, simply because they are currently in the game. I also think that they would both handle the WA media better. Would any of the Ch7 / 6PR nuffies dare to question or cross Lethal or Sheeds??
Open the cheque book and tell them to name their price. :thumbsu:

My dream list
Here goes
Dean Laidley - Dont care about reputations and knows what it has to succeed at the highest level , demands team principles over individual brilliance , He has no favourites and if you work hard and behave you will be rewarded.
Robert Shaw - brilliant football mind who has been everywhere in football , its mostly been tragic for him though , no one has to be reminded of Fitzroys last days , well it was Rob Shaw there , he made them competitive right to the bitter end pitting pretty much D grade amateurs V AFL teams. He moved to Adelaide where what he tried to implement on the Crows was met with rousing diapproal from the fans and what happened ??? His house got burnt down and got run out of town . Mal Blight stepped in and copied what Rob Shaw was gonna do and oust McGuinnes , Jarman & the other clown I forget his name but them 3 were very disruptive influences on the club , as soon as they went , Blight has his way and the rest is well what you say is history.
Who I dont want.
Sumich - The antichrist - I have heard he may well have the job already but if he does were in for a fun year . Either way we are gonna be successful on the field or we are are gonna have fun laying the boots into the crooked kicking coach
Mark Harvey - Same boat as CC - to close to the players , and if he isnt has to prove it , being KO'd wlist being out with the boys in Darwin is massive baggage in my eyes.
Chris Bond- Was our captain in our worst era , if he were coach I beleive he could eclipse it
The Smokey -
Chris Waterman - Always admired his work , well liked at Freo and I am sure he will succeed.

Freo Hitman, I am sure I must be missing the nuances of what you have written here, but what is your perceived difference of being too close to the players and well liked? By well liked do you mean well respected perhaps?

Too close is being out with the boys on a sturday nite for drinks for a start , and well liked is no one says a bad word about a person. Harvey INPO is too close to the playing group , and Waterman is is well liked , have never had a bad word said about him or his work with the club , have you ???

Apparently the board are looking at Ron Barassi instead of Blight because they thought that Blight and Robert Walls had coached too many games in the last 20 years. They tried calling Haydn Bunton senior but at this point he has failed to return their calls.

I think the key here Dom is what can coaches of this calibre bring to a great squad like Freo?
People like Pagan, Sheedy or Blight have been there and understood how to straighten out waywards like Freo and build a disciplined side; we so need there type right now.
I was of the opinion that Suma was right but more likely a father figure may be more appropriate going forward:thumbsu:

Dunno. If Pav stays and he can build his "Pagan's Paddock" thing (or something similar), then maybe... but I dunno. I know he hasn't had the cattle at Carlton, and he was hamstrung with draft pick sanctions early on... but even so, he's done four-fifths of bugger all there...
Just don't think he has the "aura" of Sheedy or Matthews.

In the perfect world when you hire a football coach you want too see a coach develop of football team , win premierships then oversee a new era with a strategic succession plan . Sheedy & Pagan & Blight in my eyes are too old or past it to see it happen.
Only in the modern day the only one who almost pulled it off was Leigh Mathews
, His only mistake in my eyes was chase the 4th premiership in arow which he got very very close . He shouldve traded off players that were still tradeable and if he did I am certain Brissy would be up again this year. But then it can be argued in his case Do I show loyalty to a team/player who has served my well or be a right prick.

No, you do your job and do what you think will get you another premiership and/or give you the best chance to win.
I don't know how you go saying Matthews made a mistake after winning 3 premierships on the trot. Petty.

I dont care if the WAGS were there !!! the fact they were all out on the same nite at a non official FFC function where trouble occurred is not good. You trying to excuse this situation is ridiculous. Harvey if he does get the job will have a seperate job on his hands in not alienating the guys who he has become close with on the playing list

Wait, so your saying that they can only go out as a group to an official function? I'm not excusing the situation. Things happen, it was just unfortunate, but maybe they should stayed in their hotel rooms and played cards.

Thats right , but if you go through there list at the end of the 3rd premiership the writing was on the wall , bodies were breaking down , but some players were still tradeable comodities - you have to weigh it up . Leigh went for the 4th in a row and in the process you see Brissy where they are today. if they traded off early and not went for the 4th premiership they may well be a top team ATM !!!!! These are just common facts , but ones that have to be weighed up by the individual.

Yep they get payed enough for the sacrifice. If you got KO'd outside the front of Metros Freo It wouldnt make the paper unless you were the coach in waiting for an AFL team !!!! It is unappropriate for member of the coaching staff to be out drinking with the team whether they had time off or not , get it. What would happen if a male school teacher got busted going out partying with female students he was teaching ????
OK, so Leigh Matthews should have settled for three flags at Brisbane? Sheesh.
I will settle for one third of that, and I will settle for a one point win ala Saint Kilda in 1966 (or Weagles in 2006 for that matter).
One flag will be enough for this lifetime....who will deliver it?

Exactly so after 3 you'd think your pushing it with basically the same squad !!!! History has shown many great teams have to rebuild after a premiership not only becasue of your own being in decline but others are infact on the rise. Basic football facts

How old were the Brissy team after the 3rd GF win ???? there was tyhe rise of StK and Freo and WC and Sydney and Adelaide so Brissy knew they had to rebuild .Team balance my freind and managing the squad is a huge part of coaching & if you guys dont understand ithow can I argue with you guys.

Start trading off players , I didnt say sell off the whole team , 4 players at a team wouldve saved a lot of heart ache.
what would you rather lose 1 year 1 play , the next 1 player the next 11 players or 1 year 4 the next 4 the next 4 ??
OK Freo Hitman, the point here is that I don't care if we have the oldest, crappiest list in the league, so long as we have three Premierships in the trophy case first. :p
In actual fact, we seem to have one of the oldest lists in the league, and all we have to show for it is one prelim (one finals win EVER). So if Lethal can do the same for us...then come on down Lethal.
