I'm curious to know the people on this board's athletic history. To put it simply I want to distinguish from the former gun players to the weekend warriors to the gave up once they left school to the arm chair experts.

For me i've played footy and cricket my whole life which is roughly from 1995 to present with no intention of stopping with brief interludes of a season of soccer and three years of basketball. All at relatively social levels with no huge athletic achievments notable. :o

Anyone else care to elaborate on their athletic history?

Played the odd season of Footy a couple of years back but my hamstrings really arent suited anymore to the rigors of footy.

Played footy for Gumeracha from the age of 5 to 17 but medical issues prevented me from going on to senior footy which is disappointing for me but Im still involved with the club, we're struggling a lot so we need all the help we can get. Both my Under 14 and 17s teams I played in made the finals every year, playing against two guys close to a few Norwood peoples hearts, Jessie Aish and my good mate Darren Pfeiffer.

I played tennis for Gum from 7-12 playing in, and losing 3 Grand Finals, but we were never expected to win any of them so it wasnt as disappointing. From then I swapped to Cricket, also for Gum from Under 14's up to A2 grade. I do really enjoy my cricket and hope to make it further in coming seasons.

And finally I played a few seasons of junior Indoor Cricket at Mt Barker and also a few fill in senior games where I faced none other than Sir Shaun Tait.... brown trouser times those were !!!

I started netball when I was 8, played through till I was 15, couldn't play this year due to an offline subject at school.

Played a bit of tennis for a while there, and I was an ok swimmer too. Neither I took very far.

Played the last 3 games for the girls footy team at school last year. The last game we played was the only one we won for the season (and we were playing in the yr 8/9 comp instead of the year 10 one), anyway I kicked the best goal, it was a lot of fun :thumbsu:

If dance counts....did ballet from age 5 to 11. I started Jazz ballet when I was 9 and tap when I was 12 and I'm still doing them now.

Played footy and cricket from year 3 to year 10. Absolute domination I might add.

Represented Adelaide city or some shit in cricket back in '99.

Then I discovered alcohol.

Gave up both footy and cricket in year 11 due to lack of motivation and just play socially with my mates now.

Representative swimmer (freestyle, breast-stroke) for 4 years, ice skater for 8, State championship finalist ten pin bowling 3 years, b grade squash player... z grade tennis player!;) Never played footy - coz Im a girl :p but have watched it for 36 years, married to an ex-South Adelaide player who eats, breaths, walks and talks footy (basically I HAD to get into the game or else!). Watch probably 4 games of footy a weekend, attend as many Crows games as is financially possible during a season.

Played about 4 years of football all up for a range of different teams. Havent played since the u/13's. Took up umpiring, and have been doing that for about 5 years.

Played 5 odd years of Lacrosse for West Torrens, was captain for about three of them, including an overtime grand final loss. Damn that sucked.

Played cricket right up until first elevens, when i couldnt be bothered getting up on saturday anymore.

Been training four nights a week for nearly two years in Wing Chun Kung Fu, Wushu, Tai Chi and Mui Thai kick boxing. Bout half way to black belt, hopefully ill get in a year or two and be able to instruct.

Played footy at club level through Under 14's until Under 16's. Did my knee in a lightning carnival at the beginning of the season, attempting a reverse checkside, landed awkwardly, less said the better. Attempted to come back the next season, just couldn't cope with all the treatments and such.

Only claim to fame in football (apart from best finals player :)), whilst I was quite good, strong centre man and CHB, I wouldn't have made it past League reserves, but I did beat Beau Waters for the half I played on him, I'm proud to this day of that.

Other than football, I played cricket, I was a fast bowler. Played a season for Southern Districts, but once I hurt my knee, never returned. I wasn't a great bowler, fast, but very erratic, one minute I would knock a stump out, the net three overs I wouldn't even come close. Batting left a lot to be desired. Always got out stupidly, could give the ball a fair tonk, but I would get bored of blocking, and playing into gaps, and basically hit out or got out.

Golf I have played ever since. I remember putting my first competition cards in. I was given the old 32 handicap, went in with a 57, and won the comp. Good days that. Lowest I got was 20, and had to hand in my membership until I go back at the end of the year. Then go go gadget 8 handicap.

Have played inline hockey for about ten years - mostly as a goalie but I have a bit of a roll around now and then. Represented Victoria three times at U/16 and U/21 for two golds and a silver. Also represented ACT (hehe, just had to pay state registration there and got much more game time) in U/21 and Senior Mens in 2006.

Recently taken up futsal (basically a mini version of soccer - but not to be confused with indoor soccer) and I mainly play that as a goalie too. Am currently playing futsal twice a week and hockey twice a week.

While it's dubious to call it a sport I also play poker quite regularly.

In the past I played baseball from the ages of 10-12 and was reasonably handy - mainly in the field, which is part of what led me to take up goalkeeping. At various stages have also tried footy (only at school level), European Handball and Box Lacrosse. Pretty obscure mix, really.

similar thing happened to us in the finals this year, we had the other team 9/89, then they came out and went for broke (reasonably successfully) and made 150.

we got bowled out for 102 :(

I Play both footy and cricket...this year ive been averaging 4 goals a game as a small forward and averaging 21 possessions. Most goals ive kicked in a game is 6, all in one quarter until the coach was dumb enough to put me down back. And no im not the captain of my team. I also play cricket. Last season, i captained the under 17's to a grand final but lost on the 2nd last ball... i averaged 36.09 with the bat and 5.45 with my bowling (leg spinners). Took 24 wickets for the year and hit 230 runs for the year. so yeah thats my sporting history

Played club footy from under 8s to under 16s, as well as school footy all through primary school. Took home a few runner up best and fairests in that time - always the bridesmaid :o Stopped playing with the club when I was 16 with the intention of taking school footy back up the next season. Unfortunately I injured my knee playing soccer that summer, and two more times that year which pretty well ruined my confidence to play footy.
Played a few years of squash and soccer before my knee died, but football was always my favourite sport (and the only one I was any good at). Still play the odd game of soccer or squash, but I have to wear a brace when I do. Keep fit by cycling these days :thumbsu:

Netball from the age of 6 - in my family you had to play netball regardless of your ability :p Mine was not the greatest natural sporting talent. Played in two consecutive GF's missing out on the first year but we redeemed ourselves in the second year. My favoutie trophy from that time is the coaches award that has my name on it and the coach was my dad, talk about some nepotism :D

Competitive swimming and netball, basketball when living in the country from the age of 9 to 12. When we returned to Adelaide I played netball again (for my old club that pretty much everyone in my family played for at one stage, even though I was living on the other side of town). Continued competitive swimming with Unley. Played a couple of seasons of indoor cricket, winning one of them. Played basketball for Forestville for a couple of seasons.

Started Rhythmic Gymnastics at the age of 18 (the age everyone else retires!) and finally decided to retire about 10 years later just shy of my 30 b'day as I was moving interstate.

I also umpired football for 3 years in my mid 20's as well during this time - managed to do my knee on that damn carpark down at training one night. Never been fixed but I hate running so it's a great excuse to not run.

In gymnastics I am still the reigning Australian Masters Champion as you only have to be over 20 to be considered a 'Master'. I have two silvers and two bronze medals from National Club Championships as well as a whole shitload of medals and trophies from State Championships and the overall title and about 7 other medals from an Alice Springs invitational. I used to pretty much win the overall most years in the state. It's a good idea to pick a sport that not many other people do as the opportunity for success is a lot higher. ;) I also was coaching in the sport at the same time as competiting and most of my gymnasts had good success as well, including the year after I left for Canberra, one of my gymnasts that I made up all her routines before leaving made the State team and in Level 7 they won the Bronze team medal at Nationals. I got some very excited phone calls that night from parents and gymnasts.

Living in Canberra I decided that at the age of 30 why not attempt to play football. There is not much else to do Canberra so you have to amuse yourself somehow. I was a Bode style forward pocket - good at the pressure and tackling, lacked the other talents that Bode has though ;) Did kick a goal one game and knew my limitations so I was very good at running away from free kicks that were mine when a more talented team mate was nearby. The quality of umpiring was severely lacking so I could get away with stuff like that.

Now - not much but I may come out of retirement for Masters in October for a bit of fun.

lots of school footy, rugby, tennis, cricket, hockey.

Didn't star in any of them but always got a gig in the "A"s.

did a knee playing rugby at 17........redid it at 23 playing squash....

since then I've stuck to indoor cricket pretty much.........and the odd season of mixed netball when Mrs Dog's begging becomes too annoying. I just stand @ GS and take the lob passes and dunk.....no movement required really.....:p:thumbsu:

8-16 Hockey - got to states a couple of years.
5-20 (when the dreaded ist born changed my life for good, Competitive netball and superleague up to 5 times a week.
Now i have to be content with the odd coaching my daughters netball team (not for a couple of years tho)

Family were heavily involved in the sasf with my father being a chairman for about 10 years for a very successful premier league team, and other family members played at that level, with one playing for a time in the uk... we lived drank ate and slept soccer.

Still eat drink sleep sport any sport. Can't say I have played footy, but have watched it since i was 3.... go the double blues. Don't necessarily think you have to play the sport to have a great understanding.

Ok here we go I'm going to blow my very small trumpet as it looks like it's Ok to do.
Starting playing footy from an early age under a fair amount of pressure from a big SA football family. Had mixed success and the worst jumper in football history , bright yellow and maroon hoops...oohhh yeah
Played footy every year through school and managed to play some games for a South Adelaide squad much to my Double Blues historied families disgust. Gave it away for a couple of years then played for a local team in the SAFA, before moving out bush and reigniting my football career. A knee reconstruction put a dent in my game as did my desire to surf and drink copious amounts of alcohol on a Friday night. Coached and played in a Bgrade premiership in the late nineties, that was nice. Have been playing off and on ever since and as i have just returned from Indonesia I am attempting to play on Saturday.
I have had success in indoor soccer and cricket as well as volleyball taking out the flag at different times...good times oh so young and carefree.
I have had a crack at most sports but I'm pretty average at all of them. My claim to fame was being Mark Woodfordes doubles partner during a school tournament but the officials only put me with him as I could only serve underarm, great infront of a crowd of 500 people!! I also played basketball in the same team as Scott Ninnis from the 36ers [maybe once!!] All in all a great time has been had by me, I still surf and kick a footy but I am definately slowing down, damn you age damn you!

I'm that old I was a Junior Stone Wheel roller for the Caveman 8

Nah, played backyard cricket and football then junior footy at various clubs in the Western Suburbs, (Ferryden Pk, Rosewater,Wingfield etc) then took up hard wicket cricket at 21 and had some good years some bad ones and a few flags along the way... 2 proud moments are captaining all 4 grades at my club ( only person to do so) and helping ( assistant coach) win an A grade football flag with my brother playing.

Played indoor cricket for a few years and won a few trophies. Incredible 8s and Full On Rogers were 2 of the team names :o ( how sad were some team names )

Now I sit back and tell people ''back in my day'' ... actuall after 7 years of working most weekends I am looking forward to picking up a bat and having a crack at a hard wicket comp again... probably North Pines

WHilst at school also played first XI soccer, playing up front, Open A squash, and was vice captain of athletics team (we won the B division Achilles Cup if anyone knows what that is). Good times at St Micks.

The players themselves didnt want too but the coach thought the Under 17 boys were getting hit, or targeted as he put it so he wanted to walk off. I mean we were down to 15 at 1 stage but the club is going through enough without having to stage a walkoff

The players themselves didnt want too but the coach thought the Under 17 boys were getting hit, or targeted as he put it so he wanted to walk off. I mean we were down to 15 at 1 stage but the club is going through enough without having to stage a walkoff
in the A grade? I didnt realise there were many 17s playing, I can assure you they were not being deliberately targetted.

I noticed you guys were down to 15, we also took numbers off, and we finished the game with 15 players, not sure if it was a sporting gesture, or just a tactical one.

Oh yeah theres about 5 of them but dont worry we didnt think they were either, just the coach. We'll be struggling to get a B grade now becuase all those boys wanna concentrate on their own finals instead of playing A Grade. I was talking to Thorpie as I was running water and he was saying how much of a joke the whole day was, I mean I was told by the umpires I was coaching from the ground because I had a mobile phone in my pocket !!!! We all thought that was funny

And I think you took off players as a gesture and I heard Stringer say something along the lines of "Well theyre not going to learn anything by playing with a 3 man advantage, so Ill make em work harder" Nice of him though
