Who would win?

1994 premiership side has the legendary HB line and a more than capable FB line which would completely blanket the 2006 sides forward line.

And vice versa at the other end of the ground. The forward line of the 1994 side is really lacking, however Sumich, Heady & Lewis were all first class players and on their day were capable of destroying any defence. That said, I think the defence of the 2006 side would hold up very well.

Midfields are hard to split. 1994 side had some great players, but the 2006 side's midfield will be legendary in years to come. More depth and more goal scoring ability.

The ruck easily goes to the 2006 side. Cox would absolutely pants Hynes and Turnbull, especially with his around the ground work.

Any new age side would flog older generations in my opinion. All athletes, would run over them.

94 side would hump 06 when fully fit. The 94 side was as good as the Brisbane 3peat side. Malthouse should of gotten more than 2 flags out of them. 3 and probably 4 for mine

Comparing all the lines (eg 94 FB with 06 FB)

FB: Too close to call
HB: 94 easily
C: 06 just
HF: 06
FF: 94
Ruck: 06
Bench: Can't compare 4 with 3

94 midfield was brilliant in its own right, but Kerr, Judd, Cousins, Cox all together, with Fletcher, Stinger etc in support...

Having said all that I think 94 was the better all round team.

That's a cop out and doesn't add to the thread.
a) Its only been a decade. The side of '94 wouldn't have been that far off in terms of fitness and athleticism, particularly as the eagles pioneered athleticism in football under Malthouse.
b) You can judge how good the current side was by 1994 standards compared to how good the current side is by 2006 standards and come up with an educated opinion which side would win based on ability and talent.
c) Have a bit of fun, try to imagine the two sides facing off and what the result would be.

It is simply too difficult for me to do :(

In my mind I see a a stream of 06 players running forward handpassing in 2 on 1's then kicking to a leading player without any 94 side player able to get within a metre of them.

Could be nil all draw...those defence look too good for the forwards. Although I could see Hansen troubling Jako...he always struggled a little with the really mobile guys who ran him around.

Agreed Coxy is the clearest winner on the ground...would have a field day! Would prolly be the deciding factor I reckon.

Coulda put Matera on Judd just for the ultimate matchup....how awesome would that be? Woosh on Cuz would be cool....and Mainy on Fletch would be the widest 2 guys have ever played on each other...30 possies each...half straight to the opposition (bit harsh)

Banners on Banners....would that be like Back to the Future where if his cuurent self looks at his former self the universe is doomed!

Here's an interesting one, who would be the 1994 team's fourth interchange player?

Same for me.

What is they say? Speed kills?

I think the 94 side is better at the opposite ends of the ground, but that aint much use when they cant get their hands on the ball. And I can just see the 06 side running past their 94 counterparts every time there's a loose contested ball to be won.

yep, judd often reminds me of Matera..and when vics lay claim to judd and sing the praises of him..i think lest we forget peter matera..both similar in run and agility..i reckon matera was more agile, could outpace players (like judd),tackle, but unlike judd had that freakish ability to kick goals from the wing on the run..

i wonder if cuzz could the battering from woosha, but then he'd probably run rings around him?

04's defence, would hold strong against 06 forward line

The 06 side would win in a canter!!

Some of the guys from 94 would be in their 40's and terribly out of condition. Doubt many would get a kick.

How silly to suggest otherwise :)

Worsfold would've come through and cleaned up most of the 06 forward line in the first 1/4. 1994 team by a mile & then some, that back line was as good as we'll ever get...

Hate to to rain on the parade, I think any current day team would beat sides more than 10 years old. There is a completely new level of professionalism and fitness. As great as Woosh was in his era, imagine a guy with the speed, skill and strength of Cousins playing on him. In my opinion the game would be a pantsing, and I have the utmost respect for the 92, 94 team. It's just a different game now.

The 1994 side for mine.

The 06 team wouldn't score against the 94 backline.

Woosha would be captaining against the side he is coaching? Should be interesting.

Are we playing 1994 rules or 2006 rules as well? Pretty big difference.
