Saw some footage of eagles training tonight and it looked like Hansen has been working out hard in the gym over the past few weeks.
Does anyone else think he looks more pumped than he did at the begining of the season?

I haven't seen him since pre-injury but he was already a big boy.

Hopefully, whatever muscle he has put on doesn't affect his mobility because that's more his go anyway. I guess it would be ideal if he put on the muscle, didn't lose any mobility but improved contested marking as a result of more strength. :thumbsu:

He provides that reliable target coming out of the backline that we have been really lacking

When you have Hurn or BJ running at full tilt from the back line & you watch their vision you notice they have stuff all to kick to, then forced to handball it off to selwood or hunter who are also faced with the same situation. We then start to over use the ball and turn it over or just move it really damn slowly.

In the early parts of the season we had either Hansen or Mitch brown providing that lead up forward but since both went down we have been totally stuffed with having to rely on a combination of Stakes, Rojo & Q to do the work.

I really hope that Ash can last the rest of the season, he was playing some seriously good football before being injured.

is it round 16 or 17 this week ?

I have a question... why can no other player lead like they do? It's not exactly something hard to learn.

Yeah I agree. Watching them play the last few weeks I been wondering the same thing. You can see the defence is struggling because no-one is leading out from the half-foward line.
But back to Hansen from the footage I saw he looked alot bigger in the upper body, especially his biceps. I just wonder if he's stronger if they're going to throw him into full-foward and use Lynch up the ground.

What about Benny... I swear he stacked on a good 5kg of muscle...

I highly doubt that cousins would have had much else to do over his rehab than train like a mad man

he is a little bigger but he definitely much leaner

I wouldn't be surprised if he was 2-3 kg's lighter than what he was at the start of round 1

Cousins looks huge

And when you consider our win/loss record with and without him, I now rate Ashley Hansen our most important player. Last year I thought it was a statistical anomaly more than anything else, but this year it's really been rammed home.

No Hansen, no West Coast.

Yep, tend to agree. Though don't think we'll see too much overhead marking tonight with the forecast looking fairly shite.

You, like many others, mistake low bodyfat for muscle. Cousins is very ripped therefore making his muscles more defined and APPEARING bigger.

Compare him to someone like Tarrant who is genuinely a tank. Or Hansen those 2 would have tons more muscle than Cuz. He only weighs 79kgs or something. That's really quite tiny in the scheme of things.

If you look at Cousins face now compared to the start of the year, his face is less gaunt (typically caused by drugs), he seems to have put some weight on but still remain ripped and looks very healthy now.
I believe he will go close to winning the Brownlow next year, he was getting BOG while being 'sick' imagine how good he'll be now hes fully healthy. Scary.

I actually think it's a very hard thing to 'learn'. How often do you see a side bomb it long to a contest around HF? CHF role has changed dramatically in the last decade or so, more of a HF target than CHF. Mobility, work rate and intelligence are now more important to a CHF than their ability to take a contested mark. Good modern day CHF's find the correct balance between finding enough space to take uncontested marks and actually getting it in the most dangerous area.

It's why I think Hansen is under valued at times. His work rate is amazing. Type of guy who is up for doing a lot of thank less running, absolutely vital for a good HF target. He is also a very clever leader. Goes at the right time, gets a great balance between uncontested mark and dangerous area. His workrate maximises the opportunities he gets and his clever leading takes advantage of those opportunities.

Its actually very hard to learn, player can improve their leading but you cant teach a player when to lead because every situation in a game is different. You have to read the play and the ball carrier, you need a good footy brain.

Just like Lance Whitnall!!

Sorry, in this case Hansen has the body to go with his brain. :D

He does seem a lot stronger. He isnt getting pushed under the ball like he used to.
