Pffft. He has been alright.
What has he done wrong? Hasn't been sighted a great deal, but I can't think of anything in particular he's done wrong.
Stay away from the big sticks son. There's a boy.:)
He's been better than Mcpharlin this year.
Yeah but he hasn't cost us anywhere near as much.

And the point of threads like this?
Make a valid comment that actually has a vague semblence of intelligence or you can expect to get some harsh feedback.

How is that his fault?
He has been giving 100% all season.... and playing very well without converting.
What are you smoking?

He's accuracy (or lack of) is well-documented - but he's still good for 2 goals per game. Can't complain about that too much.
If Pav was more accurate this year, he'd be on 60; and we'd be looking at 90-odd goals between our 2 key forwards.
How is that bad???
I actually think Tarrant has a great work ethic - even if he's not getting big stats. And that's why I've been a bit harsh on Mcpharlin. Tarrant's been not too bad this year and it often takes a year to gel in a new team. i remember Josh carr's 2nd year was much better than his first.
Listening to ABC radiio , they gave him a big wrap for his work off the ball that set up a goal as well as Blackies one.

WTF are you on about,
We traded away the future for him. And I'd rather see Murphy out there.
Seriously, he didn't want to come to us in the first place. He wanted to walk into a premiership at West Coast.
At the moment on Champion stats he's our 2nd worst ranked player.

Murphy would have been out there except for that stupid brain-fade that saw him get suspended... :thumbsd:

ah we've finally found the biggest mental midget on Big Footy.
Nice work on outing yourself
3rd worst ranked player
Out performed by inexperienced guys like Drum, Duffield and Warnock. And oft-maligned players like Gilmore and Thornton.
Did alright? Is he worth a 1st round draft pick?

Murphy needs to sit down and watch Tarrant and learn how to become a good footballer. He might be able to kick it straight through the goals, but that is the only thing he has over Taz. If half our players worked as hard as Taz and Solly do, CC would still be coach and we'd be top 4 (if not top 2).

Of course, but Murphy's barely played all season - no matter how he's done in the WAFL!
He's our next Croad. I don't care what anyone else thinks. Averages as many goals a game as Murphy did last year.

So what?... He had a bad game this week. But he has been playing great this season so far. Tarrant still chased hard and tried all day.

Tarrant was sharp when he was around the ball and had some excellent goal assists and tackles.
Being a key forward, you can't always dominate the stats (which Taz has been doing all season anyway).
He didn't sook, kept up the pressure and had clean hands. Great work Taz :thumbsu:

Yep , great work sacrificing his game to play the decoy.
Murphy should look at how Drummie performed making himself available as the mostly free man.

That's not what the stats say. "Donuts" Murphy has had an extremely poor year and has been one of the major disappointments for the year.

I heard that to.
At times the players are given roles that unless you know the game plan, make them look as if they are doing nothing. Maybe Tarrants object was to drag a good player away from the Freo 50 to give Pav room.
I am very happy with Tarrants work rate, something Spud needs to acquire.

Didn't notice him much but you don't see much off the ball on the telly. Pav said he was great so going from that I assume he played the role he was asked to. If anything it is good that he is that selfless to be decoy and space creator. Usually the big name forwards have too much of an ego for that.

That's not surprising given Tarrant has taken his role in the team, he has had very few opportunities and is not particularly favoured
Personally I think Tarrant will always be better then Murphy, but if Ryan was given time to develop in Tarrant's role you would have someone close to Tarrant's output at a cheaper price and with draft picks intact.
As it stands - Murphy no longer has a role in your side.
Perhaps that's what the thread starter was suggesting

Murphy played FF last week - and chose to go the head-high bump instead of play the ball, got himself suspended and couldn't play. Before that, his form was less than inspiring and he was doing precious little to get himself picked. He got himself picked - then he got himself suspended. Hardly Taz's fault.

Do you even understand footy?
Tarrant has given 100% in all the games this year. I think he did a lot of running today which created some space and stopped Pav from getting double teamed too often.

Murphy does not have the Pace or Stamina that Tarrant has although he's a much better goal kicker.
Murphy will come good from the goal square. Tarrant does his best work at CHF and on the wing providing a target out of defense.

Tarrant and Murphy play very different roles which are dependent on their abilities. Tarrant runs all day and takes marks, and works well beyond the 50m line. Murphy, when he plays well, is a lead and mark FF. Outside of that role he seems lost. I thought Tarrant had a below par day yesterday (from the tv screen perspective of course), but his stats look better than stats from almost any game Murphy has ever played, apart from that he didn't kick any goals. Murphy rarely touches the ball. It begs the question;
What would you rather;
a) Tarrant getting lots of the ball despite his innaccuracy in shooting for goal, but still contributing as he did today?
or
b) Murphy having laser accuracy, but no/few possessions as he has done when in the team?
I would much rather they find a way of utilising Tarrant's undoubted talents. Either Murphy or Campbell could slot into the closer to goal role, and we also have a heap of others who can play the third tall forward including Drum, resting ruckmen, Johnson, Mundy, Headland, Thronton etc. At this stage I would have as much faith in any of them contributing as much as Murphy does out of the goal square, and more than he does away from it.

Yep, spot on. Also, murphy's opponent runs off him all day and exposes his lack of pace/mobility, whereas Taz almost never gets exposed by his opponent running off him.

I love the way the weagle supporter is here backing up the only Freo supporter who's bagging Tarrant / the trade...
;)
Taz was brilliant yesterday in his role. Its not all about numbers. Pavlich even praised Taz's work after the game.
By leading so hard, and so regularly it creates space for our midfielders to run forward into.
Suddenly Fremantle have goal kicking midfielders because a paddock is created behind taz. Yesterday was his best game for Freo.
Its the same role Ash Hansen plays at the Eagles.

Im not in the game of bagging - im simply offering an opinion and analysis
I know Taz and Murphy play different roles, that's obvious, but there are only so many talls you can feature in a forward line and Taz essentially takes Murphy's spot.
I find it rather ridiculous comparing Murphy's output to Tarrant's like many here given Taz is at his peak and Murphy is still developing. There are many reasons why Murphy has been in poor form or not of use. I would think his confidence has taken an absolute battering after a solid and promising year last year.
Where have all these fans gone from last year that talked him up as the next star?
On an unrelated matter, how is Robbie Haddrill going?

Our backline talls (6) consist of Grover, MacPharlin, Mundy, Thornton, Johnson and Dodd. We only have 2 smalls who are regulars in the backline, Black and Hayden. Of course those 8 players mix, match and rotate. I think 3 key tall forwards is a good number, depending on which grounds they are playing on, but mobility is as important to being tall. Something like;
Farmer Murphy/Campbell Solomon/Bell/MacManus
Headland Pavlich Tarrant

Very True, on the screen we miss most of what he sets up for Pav etc. The Forward line is left so open for Pav, which is vital.
Tarrant isnt the problem. Not including Murphy in the deal is

Exactly right, wish everyone would get off tarrants back. He did a job for us today, he took a key defender for the crows away from Pavlich.
Some of you guys need to look beyond the stats
