I'm sold, he's got the whole package. Will be a star no doubt, I can't believe he was pick 60!! Steal of the draft :thumbsu:

Had OP for 3-4 years so this is the first time he has ever played injury free and even without fitness he is good enough to be a good player in the seniors already at his age. Upside is massive too.

Best of all he has SKILLS! Future gun :)

Did he play recently? Got stats? Links?

I'm interested to see what he's like because I've read good things.

since his return, he has gunned it at coburg reserves level

today he played in the conurg ones 4 the first time and showed he is a star in the making

what a leap, what poise, and skill

was a steal

also jon played pretty well also, all he needs is a full pre season and he will be a gun too

I'll reserve my judgement until I see him in the seniors , can recall similar hysteria oh not so long ago...but lets not go there:o

Gerard Neesham said he was the most talented player he had seen go through the Clontarf academy, which has produced many indigenous stars. I know Sydney wanted him badly in the draft but thought no one would select him (ala James Hird). They were visibly upset when the Tiges picked him up at 60 as I think they were just about to pick him up next. Was known to possess the most amazing leap and had poise under pressure. Barring the OP returning and any other injury, he will be a star.

Enough of the big statements & hype already benny.

You've already put the moz on Tambling and Schulz.
How about letting Carl just develop quietly and when he's actually delivering consistantly at the senior level, THEN you can blow his horn.

Either did I.

Googled him and came up with this:

Record Draft in 2006

The 2006 AFL draft was considered t o be one of the most talented in the draft’s history. A truly national draft saw players from all over the country selected. It also heralded the arrival of Queensland as new nursery for AFL talent.

As the number of Indigenous players in the AFL continues to soar, last year’s draft produced a record number of Indigenous draftees with a total of 15 – an indication of the impact the huge influx of Indigenous players is having upon the AFL.

Remarkably, the Indigenous draftees at the 2006 draft made up for 20 per cent of the total intake; this coming from a people who only make up around 2 per cent of the total population!

Heading all Indigenous draftees was West Australian speedster and dual U18 All-Australian Leroy Jetta, taken by Essendon with their 18 th pick. Leroy was followed by:

Albert Proud (#22 – Brisbane Lions)

Nathan Djerkurra (#25 - Geelong)

Shane Edwards (#26 – Richmond)

Clayton Collard (#31 – Port Adelaide)

Alwyn Davey (#36 – Essendon)

Nathan Krakouer (#39 – Port Adelaide)

Brad Dick (#44 – Collingwood)

Brennan Stack (#45 – Western Bulldogs)

Clinton Benjamin (#51 – Carlton)

Carl Peterson (#60 – Richmond)

Isaac Weetra (#62 – Melbourne)

Malcolm Lynch (#67 – Western Bulldogs)

Joe Anderson (#67 – Carlton)

Calib Mourish (#77 – Fremantle).

Keep your eye out for these rising stars as they take their first steps into the AFL.

Bingo. While he does love his tiges, Benny would be the biggest over-exaggerator of talent. The fact that the Swans were very keen to obtain him gives me great confidence that Carl could be something special. They know how to recruit.

GO TIGES!!!

I've seen Carl play on several occassions this year and he could with further development be the gamebreaker we need in the forward right now. He has that freakish quality but does the hard stuff as well (brilliant tackler). I'd leave him at Coburg and bring him in for the last game (if warranted) to give him and the fans a taste for next year.

will make the indiginous community proud and the rfcGood stuff. Yeah, as I said, I was curious to hear about his return after the post-draft stories I read on him, but obviously his OP precluded that from happening until recently.

Well that's tops. Look forward to seeing him make the break into the top-level.

Interesting to read an article on Peterson last year when he got called in for rucking duties for Claremont as their ruckman was injured during a game. He had to go up against Seaby from the Eagles, from the article it said that Carl gave him a touch up in the ruck by out leaping his bigger bodied opponent & beating him in most of the hitouts.

Hey this is thread worthy news, with the depressing season to date this is the first time since Brown's return that we have had something to cheer about. And it hasn't even been pointed out yet.

Peterson has instantly stepped into the Coburg seniors and had an immediate impact. In just one game he has shown more talent than at least half of our list. And this is in his first year with no fitness after a 3 year injury!

Just wait till you see him run out for Richmond, it's about time we found someone like him. Skillful, SMART, fast and exciting... I can understand why you would be surprised to see a player like this on OUR list :p

How many new draftees have we had who made an immediate impact?

Deledio is the only one I can think of.

Until now! Very exciting news, we've found a good player.
