With St Kilda winning tonight, Sydney looking like losing, and Brisbane to play Carlton at the 'Gabba tomorrow, we could be 13th again by the end of the round. That's the bad news...

The good news is that we will be only one game out of the eight (Swans are 8-8, in 8th spot). So, can we make the finals? I know it's a bit early to start thinking like this, and Geelong may well snuff out our hopes next week, but consider this:

Our percentage is decent. String a few weeks together, and it may be superior to the teams around us.

Next three games are at home.

On the evidence of today, it would appear that the mental shackles are off. :thumbsu:

Round 17 - Geelong are so far up in 1st that they are untouchable. They may regard this as the loss they have to have... 8-9

Round 18 - Eagles are out of form, and we owe them for the first derby. 9-9

Round 19 - A limp Essendon get crunched by a resurgent Freo powerhouse. 10-9

Round 20 - Saints overpowered by the Freo Juggernaught at Telstra Dome. 11-9

Round 21 - Melbourne get flogged by a rampant Docker machine. 12-9

Round 22 - Freo complete their conquest of S.A. by beating Port. Pav kicks 10, wins the Coleman medal and signs on the dotted line. 13-9

Then we're in line for a home final.:D

Jetau, you are a person of rare wisdom and supreme analytical skills.

So you're saying - just win them all and we'll be right?

I'm probably getting a bit ahead of myself, but the St Kilda game could be the crunch one. If we win that ???????

That's correct. My supreme analytical skills have led me to conclude that, should we win four finals matches, we become the premiers.

I've got us finishing 6th win a home final against the birds.

The crunch games are Port Adelaide and Saints, who are both travelling pretty well. And Wet Toast.

Results have gone our way this weekend,. but we'll still need 12 wins.

If we had one more win we'd be a strong chance under Harvey, but if we had one more win Connolly would still be coach and we'd have no chance.

Exactly. I SEVERELY doubt that the players would have performed so well, had we gone to Adelaide at 7-8 with Connolly's future still in the balance.

I said before the Kangaroos game that it would be in our long-term interests to lose to the Roos. I feel vindicated already.:) Not that Connolly was asking the players to kick points instead of goals, of course, but now they are playing with more freedom.

If we beat Geelong, I'm officially excited.:thumbsu:

I'd love to share that optimism, but I'll wait till after the Geelong game and the Derby.

I'd like to wait until after the St. Kilda game to be more realistic of sharing optimism.

That's the game !! With Brizzy storming home, we'll need to beat St Kilda to stay in the race. First of all we've got to beat Geelong, Wet Toast and then Essendon. You've got to believe !!!

I know it's 'mathematically possible' to make the finals with 5 wins from the last 6 , but its also very possible we could win ever game from here on in and still miss the finals. Its not about finals anymore for me, its about showing fight and courage and a 'we will not fade away quietly this season' type attitude. That is what I liked about the Crows game. I'm beyond finals now, I just want fight, grit and 'attitude' every quarter in every game. The rest will take care of itself.

I'm a bit torn... If we continued in our craptacular ways, we would have scored ourselves a top 5 draft pick. Now it looks as though we will play ourselves out of the top 5 draft pick, and provide some excitement and hope for next year on the way... but probably still not make the 8.

What a conundrum... :o

(And no I am not advocating tanking... but it's just - well you know.... c'mon... don't tell me the thought hadn't crossed your minds as well... even briefly, for just a second or two.... C'mon Freo - 10 from 10 and we win the premiership! :thumbsu: ;) :thumbsu: )

If you do get a top 5 draft pick, you will only end up trading it for something worth a lot less than the player drafted will end up becoming. Again. :)

Winning all of those 6 games except the one involving West Coast would be appreciated. Go Freo.:thumbsu:

Or we could just follow the weagles lead and 'discover' the next Sampi or MacDougall. Now THAT would go a long way towards Freo's first premiership

You should have winked instead of smiled. That way we would think you're just having a larf rather than being a smart-arsed weagle tosser. :)

The difference between pick 10 and pick 5 is not worth tanking for.

I'm sure you'll get a couple of top 5 picks for Pav in a trade anyways so might as well make a run for the finals.

Now do I put :) or ;) here? :p

C'mon IP, are you saying you didn't enjoy the game on the weekend? I would rather see my team winning and winning well than playing the crap they have played for most of this season. I want to be proud and have something to cheer about.:thumbsu:

If we win 6/6, we will certainly make the finals at 13-9. Remember, our percentage would probably improve a fair bit too. I think 13-9 would be get us a home final. Wouldn't that be awesome?:p

OK, so we will probably lose a couple of games. In fact, I have been dreading the prospect of another 11-11 season all year. The prospect of finishing ninth...but now that Connolly is gone, the thought of finishing the season with 5-2 under Harvey (for 11-11 altogether) seems pretty positive. If we get to 11 wins, then I would expect the job will belong to Harvey, if he wants it of course.

I'm not usually a really optimistic person, but I really think we WILL beat the Cats this week. What have they got to play for right now? First place is already in the bag for them.

Me? A smartarse? Never...

I actually want Freo to make the finals (not win any of course :)). Teams who sack their coach (well ok he resigned, but same diff) don't usually make the finals. It would be an interesting scenario.
