I think the Tiges do cop it from both barrels about their drafting, but they are far from Robinson Crusoe in that situation. Have a look at Essendon this year, with their huge picks #2 and #18 they have picked a bloke who has yet to grace the field (Gumbleton) and another bloke who has played a couple of ordinary games early in the year, only to suffer some disciplinary action some weeks ago in the Magoos, one Leroy Jetta.
Now, i think it's fair to say that they have been underwhelming to say the least this season. Lachlan Hansen also has played a couple of mediocre games early in the year for the Kangaroos, and hasn't been seen since early this year too, for a #3 pick. So while Richmond get all the old chestnut 'Tambling vs Franklin' barrels, it seems that other clubs escape scrutiny for their own underwhelming picks. Most clubs have their skeletons in their recruiting closets.

of course they do, just bloody hard to defend when we cant make an advance on 1 win...we'll improve no doubt about it

Examine the Bummers board and you'll still find great raps on Gumbleton. Just because he's been left to develop in the magoos doesn't mean he wont make it. I think many get far too impatient with player development. Look at Brendon Lade; at 30 he's finally become an elite ruckmen. Who had heard of him 10 years ago? Occasionally you get a young guy who is accelerated in his development, but that is the exception rather than the rule.

Why the defense though?
Is it Richmond to find someone as bad and say we are not the only ones in the toilet in a particular area.
We need to compare ourselves to the best in every area and admit that next to other clubs, the excuses dont stack up.
The journos have laid off us this year because we have become obsolete for this season so early into it.
I dont see the Tigers problem with critisism but rather a type of non existance this year.
The disrespect we are gaining is worrying.
Caro cant even mention Richmond on 'Football Confidential' because she gets cut off because we are considered almost irrelevant to football news.
All I want is real success and something from these crap nothing years that just kill off your enjoyment of football.
Im sick of hearing OJ Simpsons lawyer tell me why we are not crap.

One thing Wallace has been able to up to now is somehow keep richmond from getting bashed up in the media.
I may be wrong but i dont remember the same public hysteria when you picked fiora over pavlich which looks alot worse then the other one right atm.

I dont know why people are obsessed with Richmond? We fail at recruiting but other teams must get pleasure in our failing. Why dont you all ask about Carlton's failure in recruiting. I know teams make mistakes with recruiting.

Actually prior to missing two year with broken legs he was our best tap ruckman (ahead of Primus) - Primus developed strongly with Lade out.

The selecting of Bling instead of Buddy doesn't peeve more anywhere as much as selecting Meyer instead of Bate.

The Tigers have a good opportunity in the last 6 weeks to play most if not all of their young players picked up in the last 2-3 drafts. I mean there is not a lot to be gained in terms of whether you will win or lose, and the club needs to find out as much as they can about the Oakley-Nicholls, Meyers, Casserlys and the like. Good to hear that Tambling played well in the Magoos, hopefully that might give him confidence to go on with. I am sure that people will accept a poor performance with a team of youngsters than a half-arsed attempt to 'try' with players who are not part of the long term plan.
I'm a Cats fan, but i watched the Kangaroos vs Demons game last night. Was talking to a Melbourne fan next to me, and he was happy to see Newton look good (Took a great mark) and also they debutant wearing #1...can't think of his name but he looked lively and got involved in the play. That gives fans hope for the future. Play the young ones, don't let those players die wondering whether thay have maximised their chances to impress at Tigerland.

wow....what makes you so confident? Not the fact that some would say, 2 wins consitutes an advance? ;)
