View Full Version : Changes for Round 17 vs Bulldogs
Well Id expect Wirrpanda Fletcher and Nicoski to all be available for selection next week. I can see Nicoski having a week in the WAFL to get him up to scratch again. So.
IN: Wirrpanda Fletcher
OUT: R.Jones ???
??? is between Hurn Priddis LeCras for mine. Id keep LeCras as he provides something no other player in our team does. Maybe Hurn. Wasnt his best last night

Drop Hurn ????
Have a look at the size of the bullfrogs forward line, Hurn is vital for next week.

as good as tonights performance was, a few times when Sydney went forward they forced a contest and got the crumbs on route to a goal, thats were we really missed Wirra. If he is fit bring him back ASAP

I wouldnt drop Priddis for a game against the Bullies. We need his tackling and clearance winning more than usual. Ideally though if a player not in our top 10 needs a rest now might be the time for our coaching staff to do that.

In his after match press conference Woosha named Selwood as one of the best players for his performance on Goodes. He won't be dropped.

The following players need to pull their fingers out:
Selwood - Woosha may have said he was OK but his disposal was shocking AGAIN
Waters - The sex change operation needs to be reversed
Hurn - Goes missing far too often and isn't too good in one-on-one marking contests. His opponent gets away from him too easily. Maybe a move to a half-forward flank will be beneficial.
Priddis - Like Hurn goes missing and his disposal isn't the best either. Needs to watch the tape of the match where he kicked three goals
Embley - Shocking disposal all game but won't be dropped. Needs to lift though.
R. Jones played well, especially in the first half (kicked a goal too!) and shouldn't be dropped.

Fletcher said last night that he wont play next week. Wirra did little more than walk laps at training this week so I cant see him coming back either.
If Wirra is right to play next week, give him a week in the WAFL (his form in the last month of playing hardly warrants a step straight back into the team).
Unless there is a forced change, why change anything at all? We had five changes this week, its time to try and settle the team. Get them into a pattern of playing with each other, it cant be good for confidence and cohesion when you are chopping and changing personnel each week.
Out: Losing away
In: Winning convincingly.

Surely its time Rowan Jones got the chop/rest. Hes not good enough to be playing not 100% fit. In that case maybe

Selwood may have poorish disposal at the moment, but he is our tagger and we cant lose him. Shut down both Goodes and Burgoyne in the last 2 games, you cannot take that away from our team.
Just watching the Sunday Footy show and they said that Gilbee and Mitch Hahn will miss this week and West is in doubt. THats good news for us.
Chris Grant will be back though... He always plays well Vs us.

Selwoods one of those playing with groin soreness hence why his disposal has been a bit off as of late. As he gets closer to 100% fitness he will get better. Hes put in enough hard yards to deserve a bit of a break. He was top 5 in our B & F last year for a reason

Yep, because he was good last year. This year, not so much.
He's played two really good games. "That" game against Freo, and there was one a couple of weeks after that where he was probably BOG. I can't remember the opponent though :o
He really needs to lift his game.

I'll be surprised to see any changes, maybe only Nicoski for Rowan Jones.
I doubt any talls will go out actually, I half expect Woosha to load up the forward line with Staker, Lynch, Hansen, Cox/Seaby all there all night and Hunter told to run down there at will.
Geelong showed on Friday night that a quick midfield team with talls that can mark will just **** the Bulldogs up atm.

keep LeCras in! He had one of those games, he could have easily had 3 goals...then we'd be putting him close to the top 5! But he missed some easy ones. Still the best small forward option we have, now that it is clear that Ben Cousins is as fit as a bull!
Out: R. Jones, Priddis
In: Fletcher, Wirrapunda
I feel for Matt Priddis a bit, only had it 10 odd times last night. But thanks to Ben Cousins, he only got about 40 or 50 minutes on the ground!
Fletcher may come in for Priddis, Wirra could be another week away.
We must win this, after this round we could be 5th.
If Port smash Rich amd Kangaroos beat Mel we will be 5th after 16 rnds.
A good away win will go a long way to helping us reach top 4 status.

Rowan Jones was great last night, he does the one percenters. Wirra & Nico shuold be give a week or two more in the WAFL to earn their spots.

As someone else already mentioned Fletcher said on 6PR at half time that he has an inflammatory groin problem and won't be fit for this weeks game, therefore he won't be an option
Bad news for Fletch. Should Judd be rested? With West, Hahn, Gilbee out we can freshen him up for Freo.

Is Eagleton playing for the Doggies? If so, we need someone to shut him down. He bitchifies us every time.
Selwood's done enough to keep his spot, even if his disposal was shithouse. I would think that they'd have to be looking long and hard at Priddis, who is still just seagulling off the packs.
Agree that Wirra hasn't done enough in his last month at AFL level to warrant a walk-up start.
I would think Rojo would be safe, because even though he doesn't have pace, he's great at ground level and in close.
Hurn needs to show us a bit more than he has been, as does Embley.
Nico, if fit, would be a great addition. Also, how's Sammy B been?
It doesnt look to good for west. Even if he does play he'll be playing at 60% or less.

I think he played his first WAFL game for a while yesterday so I doubt it, however, I'm only right about 10% of the time when we're talking about the WAFL so seek a second opioion.
Is Butler a chance to come in this week?
Nope first game back. Needs atleast 3 more weeks in the WAFL till hes AFL ready. Hes been out for nearly a year now mate.
As to 'outs', I thought the plan was to rest Judd this week because of the surface possibly exacerbating his problem ?
Maybe that's changed now ?

Not sure of INS but I think Judd should be rested, especially as he doesn't go well on the Dome surface.
For the Bulldogs they will be missing-
Cross, Griffen, Gilbee, Hahn and will most likely play an injured West. This is very good news for us, we must keep winning.
If West is out thatll be a big big bonus. He always tears us to shreds. How many Brownlow votes has he polled against us, No joke he gets 3 or 2 every game it seems

Isn't Cooney on report for whacking Gablett in the guts as well?
Provided there were no injuries from the Sydney game I'd like to see an unchanged side.
Wirra, Fletcher, Nico and Butler are the players capable of challenging for a spot and they are all either still injured or underdone.
Bring them back through the WAFL (maybe not Wirra) and give the current 22 a week or two to prove themselves.
Who said Rojo was good? He initially lined up on O'Keefe, who owned us in the early stages.
His head is the first to roll if it comes to it. Missed a handful of tackles and disposals were as always, average at best.
Cooney's punch had nothing in it. He will play this week.
priddis, rojo, selwood and hurn didnt have great games, selwood hasnt been in great form....so he would probably be on the block.
lynch too, but his spot is safe as there is nobody pressing, unlike the little blokes. le cras is in the same boat.
....im not sure wirra should come straight back in actually. he hasnt been in great form, and who gives way?
and fletch, well maybe fletch should have to earn his spot back in the WAFL, too
so i dont know, its a very tough call, they are all pretty close. i guess the training track will show whats what

I'm well past the point where I wish opponent clubs all the best. That's 2005 and 2006 stuff, we desperatly need to win now.

Played as a defensive forward on Malceski a bit and limited his influence.
Should never have been on O'Keefe - the coaching box must have got the Jones mixed up on the magnetic board.

No s**t thats what I was thinking!!! I was at the game and when O'Keefe started chopping RoJo in the second quarter, I was very confused...
But it seems to me like alot of people on here struggle with the concept of naming an unchanged lineup. Unless Fletcher is fit and ready to go, no-one else should come straight into our team. Butler, Nicoski and Wirra should all play WAFL.
Having the amount of injuries we have had so far this season, a bit of stability counts for a lot at this stage of the season. Remember Sydney's injury list in 05 and 06, and ours in 06? A settled team is much more dangerous than a constantly changing one.

Yeah Rowan was fine, worked hard, did some decent stuff. Tough job for him on O'Keefe for a bit there, not a great match up.
If he's fit, and I mean 100%, I'd bring in Wirra for Hurn. If Wirra doesn't respond to this opportunity, bring Hurn back in. If Wirra is somewhat touch and go to play, give him a run in the WAFL to get a game into him and help him find some touch.
Hurn has been ok but I think we miss Wirra's class in the defense, in getting out of those tight spots occasionally that other guys such as Waters, Brett Jones and Hurn don't quite bring to the table.
We are a better team with Wirra in it, so hopefully he can recapture some form.
Shame about Fletch, would have been a good inclusion, probably for Priddis, Braun worked hard all night, even spoiled Adam Goodes in a marking contest akin to Nate Robinson blocking Yao Ming (well almost!), so his spot would be safe again and everyone else in the middle would be safe for now.

I can answer a few questions you have RE Dogs players:
Scott West: Don't think he'll play. I think he needs the week off.
Chris Grant: Should come back in with Dale Morris.
Cooney: From what I've seen he could be in trouble, but I can see the club challenging if he's offered a week. If he and West are both missing we are in strife. Cross already missing and Hahn to join him.
Eagleton: Picked up 23 Possessions and 9 marks on Friday night, was one of the few who put up a fight. He'll play.
If Cooney and West both miss I think we'll lose and lose big.
Cooney was found guilty but not enough points to give him a week so he will play.
I think West will play personally and I think they coaching staff will plan around him playing.

West Coast believe that Fletcher & Wirra will be pushing for selection this week with Nicoski.
Surely the only potential "in" this week is Fletcher (if fit). He was getting back to his best form prior to his injury. Priddis may be the unlucky one or Judd if they decide this is the week for a rest. Wirra was out of form prior to injury and needs to get his touch back in the wafl. Nico was still getting back into the swing of afl when he got injured so he would come back after a game or two with subi, if his form warrants selection.

GOOD POST!
I love the way you can always count on him across half forward, when he's outnumbered 2-to-1 in the air, to almost always either mark it or knock it on to advantage.
There was one on Saturday, and a couple in the finals last year, once against the Bulldogs where he dished it to Judd for a goal, and once in the GF leading to our first goal.
He's 4th in contested posessions for the team right? I assume it's Kerr and Judd ahead of him. Anyone know who's third? I just got my number 18 put on my home guernsey yesterday :D

According to Channel 7/6PR, David Wirrpanda and Mark Nicoski will both have a week in the WAFL to get a bit of form up. Chad Fletcher comes right back into the team with Priddis and Rowan Jones the candidates to make way.

I see a player that can't kick, lacks pace and never chases(Or looks like getting near the opponent he's chasing).

Im not gonna argue with you mate.
A lot of you Eagles fans hate Rowan Jones for whatever reason you seem to come up with. The bottom line is that he is a pretty good player. There is a reason he has played over 150 games and is picked week in and week out by the coaching staff in a premiership side. The guy can play. He cant run like Cousins, he doesnt have Judd's pace and he isnt as hard as Kerr but really who does have all that?
Rojo brings toughness, chasing, tackling, 1%ers and heart. He gives it his all each week, get's plenty of the ball and is the PERFECT team player. The amount of times something will happen and you rewind back 30 seconds, you will see that it was a Jones desperation dive and knock on that allowed a WC player to get to it, or a contest in the air against two opponents that Jones managed to bring it to ground. Or just something simple like sheperding an opponent off the ball or running away from the contest knowing he isnt gonna get it to create space for Cousins etc...
He is a terrific player. But ill never convince the Rojo haters. I do however know there are ppl out there like me that actually watch football and understand what kind of role he plays and how he helps the team week in and week out.

Wouldn't that then mean medical 'certificate' or a fine ?

I don't think so, since he's on the emergency list.

good luck to Schofield anyway
looks a gun either on the wing or as a defender, very good spoiling technique
maybe Juddy will be re assessed tomorrow & a final decision will be made then

Hands up those of you who picked Schofield to be making his debut this week.
I don't know much about him - my understanding he is a fair athlete but lightly built.
If so the Doggies are a good side for him to come in against - not likely to get too much of a buffeting and his run could be handy.
Surely Rosa must have some sort of injury though?
Judd will play. Put ya house on it.
Will Schofield travelled over to see the family. Tim Houlihan is going next time I believe
Say again Embers :p

Who actually believes he will play?
I don't but maybe he would be good to have because the bulldogs forward line is surprisingly tall.

So you're friends ? When did he tell you he was 'in' ?
