Is anyone else looking forward to watching the next 6 weeks of football involving the RFC? God knows I am not except for one thing and that is to see the young kids play and develop. I have no interest in talking about Johnson, Bowden, Richo, Brown, Tivendale, Simmonds, Newman and Pettifer and a few others because I know what they bring to the table. The sole focus I'll be taking for the rest of the season is seeing how the kids develop over the last month and half of footy.
Foley, Riewoldt, Pattison, Schulz, King, Polak, Raines, Edwards, Hughes, Graham (if he plays), Tambling, Deledio amongst others that should get game time over the next 6 weeks are who I plan on paying close attention to because they are the future of this club.
Wallace has done the right thing and got enough kids in the side at this time. Bringing in anymore will just see us cop hidings and that will do none of them any good. The best thing I could take away from today's game was the efforts of Edwards, and Jack in particular who showed that given the opporunity to develop will become very good players for the club.
Even Schulz showed a bit more determination to be part of the action and he surely can't be faulted for not having a huge impact when the players up the ground were messing around with the ball time and again and when they did finally deliver the ball inside the F50 it was to a spot that did not favour our fowards.
Finally let me just say I hope that Terry does not drop any of the kids from the side this week as they don't deserve to get dropped. Get games into these kids and let them blossom as footballers as they have nothing to lose by playing at AFL level and plenty to gain.

Yeah he did but at least he was in there trying. I have been saying for the past few weeks we will only truly see the best of Schulz once when Richo has retired. At present we are too Richo focused and it does nothing but hurt the development of these kids.

dudo we werent richo concious,we were shulz concious today and he was shit. The end.
Jack has had a 4 minute career and has the commentators talking about him, and with Schulz we are talking about the hope that the commentators will be talking him about him the same way, and he has had 5 years or so in the system. Me thinks its seeya, thanks for coming time. ;)

Yep lets get rid of a young FF because we are just so blessed with other options. Schulz has shown he can be an effective FF and as for commentators talking about Jack, weren't they also talking about Schulz way back when he had only played a handful of games, even moreso after bagging 6 against the Lions. Due to things beyond his control he has always copped an injury just when he looks to be making progress. Has fought back from being dropped earlier this year and deserves to spend the rest of the year in the F50 along with Riewoldt to give them time to develop their understanding with Richo so that they don't continually get in each others way.
As I have pointed out on other occassions this season with regard to Schulz, it is no suprise that his best games for the club have come when Richo has not been in the F50 to take the focus away from him. But give him and Jack time to work on their games with Richo in the F50 and I don't see why there is no reason they can't work well as a unit. I bet that sides now start to pay a little more attention to Jack now that he has shown he can be a goal kicker despite limited chances, only had the 9 touches today. Give Jay and Jack 20 possies and 10 marks between them and there is no reason they can contribute 4-6 goals a week for the rest of the year. At least it gives us something to look forward to in the next 6 weeks rather than the constant focus on the same old tired players.

dude..when you get rid of him them you might open the door to other options.
As for your classic "best games"....yeah his best games for the club isnt in question...what is in question is that those best are shithouse and totally ineffective., or are you watching the game and seeing what you hope you to see? ;)

What other options are out there or better yet on our list at present? Jack, Cleve, Patto or some 17/18 year old draftee this year. I know perhaps now is the perfect time to look at giving Kent another shot at the big time.
As for his best games being shithouse, yeah I suppose 6 goals is a piss poor return from a guy playing in his first 10 games. Or perhaps getting 4-6 chances against the reigning AA FB earlier this year when if he had of kicked straight would have netted him 3-5 goals.
I am watching the game and the facts and figures speak for themselves. Richo has had 30 odd more scoring chances than our next best forward. Sort of indicates that all we do is focus on him instead of broadening our vision and looking for a player in a better position than Richo on the boundary 50 out against 2 or more opponents. If Jay had been kicking with his normal reliabilty he would be looking at a 30-35 goal season as 2nd fiddle in Richmonds current set up, not too poor for a team that is sitting stone motherless. The fact that we piss fart around with the ball up in the middle of the ground so that by time they do try and pass to Schulz or any other forward option the advantage they did have has gone and they have an opponent up their ginger.
Bugger me but I would not bother leading every time the ball was coming through the middle if all that was going to happen is some brainless twit was going to blind turn a shadow hand ball to a teammate under pressure and then after I have made a good lead decide to then kick it to me when I am no longer in position to take the ball. Perhpas it is you who does not watch closely enough as all you seem to do is pick fault with blokes like Schulz who are doing the right thing and getting themselves into position to mark the ball and have a shot on goal only to see our midfield constantly run around in circles. Any wonder I asked my mate today why is it I hear the Benny Hill theme song when watching Richmond play?

dont give a flying **** what other options are out there...the next option that becomes an option because of his absence is another option, then if that option isnt the option then get another, then get another...that way you might find the other option, instead of having no option but to say, what other options are out there.
I mean you defeat your own opinion of Schulz, by suggesting we need to keep him, because there is nothing better. It would be more of a bonus to the tigers scoreline if we kept him because we had options but he was kicking butt, dont you think?
Lets face it, Morro had as much effect on a game, when he was a tiger, as Schulz does....;)

Simple fact is Schulz has the talent to be a very good FF the problem is he does not get the opportunity to show it because of 1 Matthew Richardson being the main focus of the side. Whats do you think would happen if we went to Schulz as often as we did to Richo in a game? Do you think that Jay would be able to take enough marks to kick 4-5 goals every now and then? History shows that if we do he will. Have a look his early season games this year when Jay was given space in the F50 to operate. Against the WCE 8 possies 5 marks 4 behinds 2 OOF (thats 6 shots at goal), Pies 12 possies 9 marks 3.2, Carlton 10 possies 7 marks 2.1 Swans 8 possies 3 marks 2.1, Port (1st time) 7 possies 6 marks 2.1 from limited game time.
Give Jay the chance to be head of the F50 and I have no doubt he can and will be a very good FF for the Tigers. For a better example of what patience can bring take a look at Barry Hall's career:
http://www.finalsiren.com/PlayerStats.asp?PlayerID=1153
First 6 years did not do a lot at the Saints despite playing in some good sides, in fact in his first 3 full season he was quite deplorable but I guess if the Saints took your view they would have got rid of him and would never have gone on to be as great a player as he has become. Not all players are going to be Buddy Franklin's where they can be freaks and take the game apart when they are young. In fact Hall himself did not become a true great until his 8th/9th seasons. So perhaps a little patience after all too often Richmond have grown impatient with the lack of results and have gone for a change only to end up back where we were 2-3 year previously.

It's been a horrid year..i have extracted little joy from footy this year...the rookies give me cold comfort when we still fail to win games....5-7 wins would have given me a warm inner glow...going into pre season for 2008 with 1 1/2 wins beind us doesnt auger well.
Love to see connors and casserley debut for a taste of what they can produce...and get Hughes back in the side

man i dont look at stats i look at how a player where he plays, impsoses himself on the contest. He offers minimal effect, and when he does actually impose himself, it more often than not, ends up with him limping off, or being injured and out for another stretch. Ineffective and fragile...means exit door in my book, dont know about yours.
If players are not going to be buddys, in the posotion he plays in, then what do you do? keep them? CHF and FF are positions that need your guns in, not just another player holng down a position. Players that play in those positions are the ones that win you the games. ;)

Simple, a lack of confidence is what has hurt Jay this year. Jay basically needs 1 game where he has a good day of conversion and it will all click again. I think the other problem is because of Richo dominating the corridor, Jay has to venture out to the flanks/boundary to get opportunities. Much harder to convert our there than from a less 45 degree angle.

is this, this years installment of the same story that has been doing the rounds for the last 5 years? So what happened to the "click" that according to you should have happened after the 6 against the Lions, 3 years ago? ;)

Take a look at his career every time he gets a bit of a run going he goes down with an injury. Interesting to note that 2 weeks after his 6 goal haul against the Lions he was out injured. Then in the first pre season under Wallace he was being looked at as a possible CHB and what happens, breaks an ankle. Ends up playing 4 games for the whole 2005 season. Gets through the 06 preseason only to break his shoulder when playing against the Saints, same game Thursfield happened to do his knee. When he came back he played every game from Round 13 last year he averaged just under 2 goals a game from limited opportunities stats wise. Then he gets hurt in the Cats game plays 2 more weeks carrying that injury and gets dropped. Played 4 games at Coburg worked hard to play as Wallace wants, i.e. if he is not getting possessions he still needs to apply pressure on the opposition coming out of defence which he has been doing.
I mean just how well do you expect a guy, who has had a broken ankle & broken shoulder as major injuries in the time that Wallace has been at the club, to perform? Every time he gets a chance it is coming back from an injury either during the pre season or the season proper. That being the case give him the final year of his contract, get a full pre season into him this time around and see what happens next year. Whats the worse that can happen we finish last?

right now, that would be a good deal. i.e. Only one more to go. ;)
Funny how the media say it's the greatest year of footy ever.
They love seeing us on the bottom.
As for the umpires, they have a crack for whichever team is playing us.
I went to 2 games this weekend Richmond and the Essendon game.
Mate,Essendon are still getting 50 metre penalties and free kicks galore.
Next year is the year of judgement for Richmond.

Daniher
Connolly
Pagan
Sheedy (pending)
Nothing to do with the game on-field or the Tigers, but everything to do with how many newspapers they can sell.

I wouldn't be watching the Tigers, I'd be watching and praying that Carlton win another game b/c you guys need the Kruezer more than they do:eek:.......and that says a lot!
You may have Simmonds, but he's not gonna be in your next finals team.....and hopefully your recruiters don't skip the "Key Position Players" page this draft as they have done recently as it has slowed down your development.
Players picked up recently in the top 20 have shown little apart from Deledio....especially Tambling and Pattison :thumbsd:

Try actually watching our side before you pass ill informed comment on them. Pattison has been carrying the ruck for most of the year on his own and done an admirable job. Simmonds has been injured for most of the season as well after being widely considered the 3rd best ruckman last year. Add to that we drafted KPP in Hughes & Riewoldt over the last 2 years while also securing a KP defender in Polak and you can quite clearly see that we have not skipped recruiting them at all.

If he has a 40-50 goal season then what?
then after having said the same thing for the last 5 years, we might have someone that can hold down the spot.
If he doesnt then what?
let me guess....i am thinking that next year the line would be...."If he has a 40-50 goal season then what?"
Culture change = not keeping a player because you are scared that if you get rid of him, someone else reaps the benefits. Thats how we have got to this stage. Hoping that one day what you hoped for happened, hence the longer you keep him the more you are worried that it might happen the year after you let him go. Take a look at the form guide, you might be surprised at how many have prospered after we got rid of them over the last decade. 2 and both of them are maybes in Rodan and Fiora.
We cant afford to look back at what we had and now havent, we need to look forward on what is new and different to what we had. ;)

then after having said the same thing for the last 5 years, we might have someone that can hold down the spot.
If he doesnt then what?
let me guess....i am thinking that next year the line would be...."If he has a 40-50 goal season then what?"

Who's looking forward to the next 2 weeks? Sydney away and geelong away. 2 very ugly smashings on the horizon..
Who's looking forward to this week? ME!
Living in Sydney now so first chance to see the Tigers for a couple of years.
Here is how it will go... ;)
OUTS:
Johnston... hand playing up (Richo to captain)
Raines... "rested"
Tivendale... another baby???!!!
Howat... earmarked to go to Collingwood. (Those short legs of his. Looks like Daicos, Didak, Thomas. What is it with the Pies and players with long bodies & short legs?)
IN's:
Connors... starts on the wing (smashes & shows all the tricks)
JON... starts on HBF, clicks & plays a ripper
Casserley... off the bench, superb skills
Hughes... starts at CHF (Schulz on bench), 12 marks & 4 goals
THE GAME:
Thursty takes Micky O and blankets him.
Polak proves he can take a strong forward by keeping Barry Hall quiet
McGaune runs with O'Keefe all day
JB stays loose and regains poise
Simmo & Patto rotate off the bench to smash Spida & Jolly
Our tall farward line, Richo, Jack, Schulz & Hughes (1 off, rotated on bench) stretch the Swans short backline. (Barry out & a fine night predicted)
THE RESULT:
Tigers by 50 points... me finishing up at The Cross after too many bourbons... a massive hangover on Sunday and a spray from the wife!
Mark my words! :D:thumbsu:
