View Full Version : WCE supporters' thoughts on Kevin Sheedy?

What a rich history we've had with Kevin Sheedy. So many incidents, of course the jacket-waving episode being the most celebrated. Gee he's made my blood boil on several occasions!!
It is not clear at this stage whether he will coach until the end of the year. Round 22 could be a very important game for us, but it would also be nice to bid farewell to Sheeds at Essendon. Wave the jacket at him one last time!! :thumbsu:
Will the tradition continue beyond Sheeds? It just won't be the same playing against Essendon without him at the helm.
Thanks for the memories Sheeds (this is starting to sound like an obituary).

The Eagles should present him with a special scarf after the match.
(presuming he's there, of course...)
The game-outside-the-game will be poorer for his absence.

Master coach, terrific ambassador for the game, and a huge thorn in the Eagles side over the years. I can't remember Essendon being represented or coached by anyone other than Sheedy.
Having said that, Essendon have had a few ordinary years. Of course I'm 1000s of miles away and have no idea of what goes on behind the doors at Essendon (& that doesn't stop Eastern States reporters making judgment on the WCE), it does appear to me that he has mellowed a fair bit over the last few years.
As a selfish view I do hope he stands aside. I would hate for him to be coaching against us in the last home and away game.
As long as he doesn't go to Freo
He might just get their **** together - can't have that :)

Always hated him after the Mitchell White 'seagulls' incident.
Still sad to see him gone though, hope he coaches again
Has been coaching Essendon since before I was born :eek::eek:

I have nothing but respect for the guy and wish him all the very best in the future. Some of the things he's said over the years have been blatantly stupid and / or ignorant, but bad publicity is good publicity and all that...
Good luck sheeds.

The game of Aussie Rules wouldn't have been half as interesting to an Eagles supporter without people like Sheedy out there. The jacket waving and all that business is what makes this game great entertainment.
Onya Sheeds!

Shame to see him go, but probably time for a change at Essendon. Their player development has been ordinary since their incredible season 2000, always relying on the same players to win them games. Things have become stale down at Essendon, and they need new blood to invigorate not just the players, but the club & its supporters as a whole.
Still, a great of the modern game. Only a matter of time until he is inducted as a "legend" of the AFL.
Nothing but absolute respect for the guy. Good luck to him in whatever he's going to do, but I doubt he'll need it.
That said, i'd be very surprised if he didn't accept another coaching position next year.
Shit.. Sheedy's last game vs us in rd 22.. we might get overrun..

Could the Eagles perhaps present him with an Eagles jacket after the game ?:)

This bloke was in his sixth season of Coaching the Bombers the year I was born...and he's been kicking for 21 years since!
It's phenomenal! He'll be a HOF Legend in no time! :thumbsu:
Ornament to the game. He will be missed. Let's give him a nice sendoff by reminding him why he was sacked and belting Essendon by 10 goals.
Jacket waving time!
nobody except paul roos has engineered more pain for the eagles supporter than kevin sheedy. and roos' record stems from a single day, sheeds seemed to be able to do it consistently, game after game and year after year.
come west sheeds, the dockers need you!

At least we got the big one back against Roos and his team....and have now won 4 of the last 5 matches against the Swans.
We've never beaten Essendon in a final and Sheedy has seemed to beat us when it looked like we'd win (admittedly those were away games but still).
In spite of that, they guy has brought incredible ideas to the game and is a real ambassador and promoter. We'd be even more formidable with him playing some role at West Coast, an idea that has been raised before.

Sheeds is the best coach for the past 27 years. He has re-invented the game twice in his reign at the dons and won a premiership every 6.5 years. While woosha has a better average for premierships 1 out of 6 he still has to do that for another 20 years hopefully.
With luck we meet the dons in the grand final and get that first finals win against sheeds
In 3 years time when jetta, gumbleton, bradley and davey improve, Essendon are the side to beat and Daniher gets the kudos, il be paying a mark of respect to greatest coach to ever live (until 2030 when woosh has 8-10 premierships)
