So incensed by the decision by the Essendon board. If the decision was based on what I saw watching the game on Saturday then the board members have no knowledge of the game of football and should be held accountable for some of the loopy decisions they make based on win / loss ratio.
Essendon mounted one of the best comebacks I have ever witnessed in that third quarter (compare that to the Carlton/ Richmond situation of teams playing with complete indifference). That they didn't win has more to do with the players they fielded than any coaching moves made by Kevin Sheedy. Why is the coach held accountable for a recruiting manager's decision on draft day? Compare the Essendon midfield to Geelong and Westcoast and you get an idea why Essendon has only 8 wins. Watching Nanthan Lovett-Murray at full back on Saturday while Fletcher and Michael are struggling to hold Cloke and Rocca, why hasn't Essendon more defenders in the player group, particularly when you see players like Jason Cloke romping around the VFL these days. These are questions the Essendon board should be asking rather than blaming it all on the coach.

Sheeds is no doubt a coaching legend.
I have a lot of respect for Sheedy. He''ll come back fighting and doing something good for the life of AFL somewhere, dont' worry about that. The game is in good hands if they're his hands :thumbsu:

Hard to comtemplate essendon without sheeds isnt it. Going to be very different.
You always felt you had a hope, their was always a chance in regards to anything, with Sheeds in charge.

I too have only known Sheedy as coach...
Sheesh this is gonna be weird :( I mean, to me...Sheedy is Essendon.
Congrats to Kevin Sheedy on a awesome coaching career at the Bombers....will be interesting to see what he does next year.

The essendon board are a disgrace, how can this once great club not allow an icon of the game finish out his career in an appropriate manner.
After 27 years, wouldnt even let him see out the remaining 6 games, at least in connollys case the dockers were under performing, in danihers case the dees were on a terrible losing streak and as for pagan well he was quite content with the club recieving three figure marginal losses.
Going to take alot of time getting used to the essendon football club without the likes of sheedy, im sad and disappointed.
only had 3 years to go for long service leave and a hefty payout.:o

I'm still pretty sad.
I couldn't help but have a cry (I am female!)
He will missed by alot of us fans.
I am 24,
I've been following the Dons all my life,
and all I've ever known is Sheeds at the helm of the club...obviously.
Round 21 MCG--Big venue..we all need to be there..
LOVE YA SHEEDS and thanks for all the memories!!!
dont get ahead of urself, wont be coming to carlton, thats one thing i know for sure.
Wouldnt imagine any coach wanting to drink from that poisoned chalice at Carlton. ;)

Sheeds is a true legend of the game. What he has done to promote the game of footy is 2nd to none. It is going to be sad when his reign is over. Would be nothing better than for a successful ending to Sheeds career as coach.

Well put.
We are going to be marking the next coach very harshly after Sheedy has set the bench mark so high.

*Rubs hands together* If they thought Henneman, Bolton, Dyson and Bradley got it bad...

show me where i said hope he comes to Carlton..what im saying is it will be interesting where ever he goes be it coaching or to some extent working with the AFL.
Who will coach Carlton...the powers to be are the only ones who know who it will be..everything here is purely speculation.
Whatever , my main point was to congratulate the bloke

I'm an AFL convert from NRL in 1998. Since then, one of the few constants of footy has been Kevin Sheedy, coach of the Dons.
As a neutral, I can point to a few post game whinges but I reckon the guy is a legend, and AFL is all the more poorer for his leaving.
For me, his best moments have been talking about the game and life beyond the Dons. If you doubt me, check out his recent interview on Late Night Live.
A sad day and as a Dogs fan, I'm toasting a beer now to one of footy's best coaches. I'd kill for one of our coaches to get 4 flags for us.
Good luck in the rest of your life, Sheeds.

with the list carlton has and the way they are going, would be a terrible thing to poison this great coaches career.
then would give essendon more reason to hate the blues:)
