View Full Version : To all posters who are furious with Essendon FC

Take a deep breath...now think a while and listen to the press conference. I cannot believe some of the garbage that is coming from some posters recently "Tearing up my membership" and so on

Think about this logically.

Timing:
Are you more annoyed at the fact that Kevin won't be coaching our great club anymore or is it the fact that we have made a decision at the wrong time? What difference would've it made had Essendon decided to not extend Sheedy's contract now or at the end of the season? Not only does it give our club more time to actively and openly search for a replacement it gives US the SUPPORTERS a chance to fill up every stadium we play in for the next 6 weeks and show our admiration to the man that has had such a positive impact on our great club

Professionalism:
What I've gathered from today is that the EFC board had pretty much decided (in January) that regardless of the year we were having this season (within reason) it would be Sheedy's last. I really don't know any other way the EFC could've approached this. It was an amicable split in which the board of the EFC thought as in the best interests of the club, whether or not this is the case only time will tell.

The Future:
Peter Jackson said one of the main reasons the board decided not to renew Sheedy's contract was because of the make up of the current list. The board viewed the list being a 3-5 year job whilst only extending Sheedy's contract to 2 years maximum. If Sheedy was ever going to leave I would want the new coach to have access to the list as early as possible. Like in 1980-81 Sheedy entered our club with a raw list but still something to work with. I want our new coach to have that same opportunity. The wheels are in motion for a new era as sad as I am to see one of the greatest coaches leave the greatest club I am equally excited about the new challenges that await us.

I'm looking forward to it and as always I will be there for the ride.

Agree with you 100%. I cant think of a more respectful and amicable separation between a coach and club. I think EFC handled this very well, and Sheedy, well he did also in his unique way. :)

We really do need to rebuild, and with many of our current best players retiring in the next 1 to 4 years (Hird, Lloyd, Fletcher, Lucas), its time to plan for the next phase of our great club. This decision is the start, even if it was painful. :(

Well said smythy, I agree 100% with what you said.

I think the timing thing is crucial. Not everyone can go out on a high like Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Justin Langer. This is a good time, like you said, because it gets everyone to the last 6 games, whoever wasn't already going for Hirdy

It seemed as if Kevin had accepted that if we didnt perform really well, and see alot of improvement out of our young guys, then he would be gone after this season. It's a better time now than when he isn't expecting it

And to all who are saying they are not going to renew their membership take a long hard look as well. I will state that i dont have a problem with the decision but to those who have dont give up on the club. Retain you membership and retain your right to vote . Show you what you think of the decision to those who voted to let him go at the ballot box.
The club doesnt need bandwagon supporters now. The Sheedy era has come to an end. It was a sad day . Although i was in favour of a new coach i was still in a bit of shock for most of the day and still am actually. The one thing i do know is the great man would be sad to see Bombers supporters jumping off the ship and letting the club slide back into the middle of the pack!

Well - finally some people willing to look at the big picture. Agree with all your sentiments. Like all footy fans, especially us Bombers, I'm shattered that the footy landscape is about to change. But looking forward, I'm actually really excited about seeing our list rebuilt, a new coach coming in with new ideas and a new game plan.

In my opinion it was the right decision for Kevin to go , sad but correct .
He is a legend and no one or no club will ever deny that fact ,he gave so much and we are all the richer for his involvement in the Club and in footy in general .Thanks Sheeds . ps : dont coach and win a grand final against the Bombers :D .

Nah i think he deserved another two or three year contract, you just have to look at the improvement of our list this year.

Smythy - I've been saying all year that it's time to move on from Sheeds. An awesome ambassador, wiley old bloke and out there startegies, but what a great inspiration he's been for the club!

Bring on Mc Kenna and his new brigade. Retain GOD in a football role and Ayres in a backline coach role and bring in new talent to develop the kids - Brad Gotch. Then add Dimma and one of either Hirdy or Voss if we could possibly convince them....

Very nicely written Smyth94, this was always going to happen at sometime, I guess my criticism of the Club is how the President appeared to say earlier in the week that the club hadn't reached a decision, sure he needed to keep it under raps but what I would have liked seen happen is the Club say we are considering all options, and we will advise you of the outcome of the considerations.

I'm more sad than angry for Sheeds has been under the pump several times before, I thought it was interesting that Sheeds said on the Footy Show that he has never been to a Board meeting and discussed his position.

The great thing is one era ends another begins, we have several issues with our list, roll on Sunday.

Agree with that. But unfortunately, what's done is done and we've all got to move on ...

Painful decision, but now it is time to look forward. I fully understand the boards view and i actually commend them for making the tough decision.

Time for us to celebrate Sheeds (and Hird of course) the only way we know how. Then the post-Sheedy era will be upon us and i'm quitely enthusiastic about what the future holds.

Will miss Kev immensely. Its like losing a member of your family.
